14 arrested in Senate anti-war protest 58 minutes ago Fourteen anti-war protesters were arrested in a Senate office building Thursday after unfurling a banner calling for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. U.S. Capitol Police spokeswoman Kimberly Schneider said the 14 were arrested for unlawful assembly in the Hart Senate Office Building just north of the Capitol. The Senate voted 51-46 on Thursday to approve a funding bill that calls for the U.S. to begin withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq by Oct. 1 with a goal of a complete pullout six months later. Bush has...

The moon may have been full last week, but I'm thinking there must have been a delayed effect on the Code Pink moonbats from down the street. "The Easter Bunny from Hell" showed up and did a little dance for our intrepid photographer Yikes! It doesn't get any scarier than that. Glad we keep the kids away from the moonbats or they'll be scarred for life. Mrs Trooprally appropriately titled the photo "I am a Moron" on her Photobucket site. Fortunately for the troops the moonbats are relegated to a spot down the street from the main entrance where few...

Seven-year-old Alvin Mitchell worked intently yesterday on what looked to be a blue balloon wrapped around a tennis ball. It was a fake version of a cluster bomb, and the real thing, he pronounced, can "blow you up and kill you."The fake bombs Alvin and a dozen other children were making at a peace workshop will be put to use Monday in Lafayette Square. As hundreds attend the White House Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn, a smaller group will gather at the park on the north side for what is being billed as a "family-friendly Easter cluster-bomb hunt."*"Obviously,...

4/9: Cluster Bomb, WMD&bin Laden Hunt outside White House's Easter Egg Roll -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reply to: event-294810909@craigslist.org Date: 2007-03-15, 11:47PM EDT We're doing a new kind of demonstration outside the White House to bring attention to the civilian costs of war and cooked "intelligence" as an excuse to bomb and invade. It's called a Cluster Bomb and WMD/bin Laden Hunt and it will take place April 9 outside the White House Easter Monday when the White House is doing their Easter Egg Hunt. We expect 40,000 people to be crossing Lafayette Square and dozens of media. It's very family-orientated and designed...

Most notalgia for the past is either fond or bittersweet. In the case of Hippie nostalgia it is mostly ANGRY. Why? Because the Age of Aquarius never came to be. Back in the Hippie 60s the tambourine playing New Agers were CERTAIN that they were just the beginning of a new era of Peace, Love, and unlimited drugs. The Disco 70s began to cast doubt on that vision and the Reagan 80s pretty much destroyed it. Instead of a Collectivist Future we now live in a mostly Free Enterprise Present. On top of that the youth of today not...

The former senator and "Law and Order" actor Fred Thompson is being mentioned as a possible presidential candidate. Mr. Thompson has said he will keep an open mind about a 2008 campaign. In a recent interview, he blasted the reputation of Mahatma Gandhi, the most overrated man in the 20th century and one whose name now graces a building at James Madison University. Sen. Thompson noted that the anti-war group Code Pink had unveiled a giant paper mache model of Gandhi at one of their peace rallies, so gave this bit of history. "During World War II, Gandhi penned an...

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- A few dozen peace activists marched across the Golden Gate Bridge and gathered outside the San Francisco home of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Sunday, demanding that Congress stop funding the war in Iraq. "San Francisco has been against this war from the very beginning," said Toby Blome, a physical therapist who organized the event. "This is our fifth year of the war, and Nancy needs to wake up and represent San Franciscans." Blome, holding a plate of cheese and bread and a glass of wine, was stopped on her way to Pelosi's front door and...

Kerr, Associated PressThursday, March 08, 2007 WASHINGTON — Some opponents of the Iraq war are taking their protests straight to Congress — staging “occupations” in legislators’ offices on Capitol Hill and in their home communities. U.S. Representative Rahm Emanuel’s office in Chicago was targeted Thursday. A day earlier, protesters were headed off before entering U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office in San Francisco. STP will have an entry in the Fort Collins St. Patrick’s Day Parade, March 17 The theme is ending the US occupation in Iraq. In preparation for what could be called a “marade” (a combination parade and march), STP is putting out a call for entries. We would like at least 3,000 people to participate but will accept any number of folks who are willing to hit the street in a sincere and heartfelt desire to end the war for oil that has killed over 3,000 young American soldiers and as many as 655,000 Iraqis.........

Code Pink Undermines War on Terror by John J. TierneyPosted Jan 29, 2007The women wear pink dresses and sportswear and carry pink parasols and pink protest signs that declare their opposition to the Iraq war. Mainly white and middle-aged, they proclaim themselves to be the wives and mothers and daughters of men and women in the armed services, and they say they are earnestly devoted to peace and opposed to U.S. war policies. Acting out bits of political theater, they denounce their enemies -- no, not Osama bin Laden -- but giant puppet figures who walk with them. The puppets...

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Golden Gate Bridge is open again to pedestrians and bikers after a hours-long closure earlier today. Highway Patrol and San Francisco police officers closed the bridge after a small group of peace protesters tried to march across the span. CodePink, an anti-war group, planned to walk across the bridge around noon today. The group, with members gathered at both ends of the bridge, was stopped by officers. After about three hours, officials arrested CodePink leader Medea Benjamin and a handful of other protesters for trespassing.

MEXICO CITY - Demonstrators stormed a Wal-Mart on the outskirts of Mexico City on Tuesday, accusing the U.S.-based retailer of selling low-cost goods at the expense of workers, farmers and public markets. About 250 protesters chanted "Out! Out!" in front of Wal-Mart's corporate headquarters before entering the adjacent store, where they blocked aisles for about 30 minutes before leaving. There were no immediate reports of arrests, injuries or damage. Ruben Garcia, a Mexican citizen who works with San Francisco-based activist group Global Exchange, said the discount chain's low prices take business away from the country's traditional public markets and depress...

#81 at Walter Reed - November 3, 2006 Dang, it was cold! Lovely skyline pic by Trooprally [Mrs]Yes, it was a dry, very cold night on Georgia Ave. Unbeknownst to us, our fearless (literally!) D.C. This past Friday I went back to Walter Reed, hoping to get some more interviews with the Code Pink protesters. But Bruce Wolf, the Code Pink bouncer, is on to my game. Bruce: Sir, please leave... I’m not trying to be fascist or something... SMASH: No, hopefully not! Nobody wants that... Bruce: But it’s making people feel uncomfortable... We’re not here to do interviews... What we’re thinking about, to be really honest, are the soldiers. You know, whether you believe us or not, that’s what we’re here for... when soldiers come out, we like to talk to them, because we...

SAN FRANCISCO -- About 40 peace activists, many of them dressed in pink and flashing peace signs, slowed traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge this morning and got into minor clashes with police. No one was arrested during the hour-and-a-half protest -- organized by the anti-war group Code Pink as part of International Peace Day -- but bridge authorities did confiscate signs and banners they said would distract drivers and slow traffic even more. There were also two minor collisions on the northbound side of the highway during the protest, which began at 8 a.m., according to Golden Gate...

Cindy Sheehan claims in an interview with Randi Rhodes on Air America that Iraq's ambassador to the United State tricked her into breaking her fast: The ambassador from Iraq to America told us that if we would break our fast he would get us a meeting with Al Maliki. And so we agreed to it. And pretty soon they all left...

The battleground changed Friday, but peace activist Cindy Sheehan is still pursuing her lawsuit against McLennan County ordinances that ban parking and camping along roads leading to President Bush’s ranch. Mike Dixon, a Waco attorney who represents McLennan County, filed motions Friday that removed Sheehan’s lawsuit from Waco’s 19th State District Court and transferred it to Waco’s federal court. “It is not that I don’t have faith in state court, because I really do,” Dixon said. “It is just that they don’t deal with First Amendment questions that often. And when you have those types of issues, we feel it...

WALNUT CREEK - Local peace groups are upset over California Homeland Security's intelligence-gathering before a March 18 anti-war rally in Walnut Creek. Ivette Maruri, who recently started up a Contra Costa chapter of Code Pink, a women's peace organization, said she could not believe the government would spend taxpayer dollars to monitor her group. "There's a lot of people who want to come to a protest, but they're scared that the government is watching you, so they don't come," Maruri said. "It's just really intimidating to people." The state's March 7 report included a list of 10 "upcoming California protests."...

This educational has the goal of upgrading our understanding of the struggle for immigrant rights and against repressive immigration legislation which is taking place right now throughout the country. The goal is to place in bold relief the central problems of inequality, criminalization, and the greed of US corporations. The suggested readings which are attached include the 2006 report to the National Board on immigration, the resolution on immigration passed at the 28th National Convention, and a PWW article. The club should invite guests to participate in this educational discussion of the immigrant rights struggle and immediately distribute the educational...

A new anti-military book is being promoted by Code Pink called “10 Excellent Reasons Not to Join the Military”. The author is Elizabeth Weill-Greenberg with Cindy Sheehan writing the guest introduction. While the cover is a vile mockery of wounded soldiers, the contents of the book are even worse. I was able to download Chapter 10 of the book, written by Rae Abileah, via the Code Pink website. Abileah just happens to be a member of Code Pink. Just reading this chapter reinforces how much Code Pink and its comrades really despise our military. Abileah begins the chapter explaining how...

The third anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq was marked over the weekend by a wave of protests around the world. Most of the marches in America were spearheaded by United for Peace and Justice, the nation’s largest anti-war coalition. For kids, Christmas means toys. For boys in particular, the hottest toys often have a martial theme — BB guns, army men, light sabers and the like. But this Christmas season, some parents trudging to the malls for G.I. Joes have had to meet the politically correct platoons now infiltrating the local Toys R' Us. Code Pink, a leftist women's outfit that's a fixture at antiwar rallies, is taking a break from protesting real conflict in Iraq to campaign against so-called "war toys." Outside Walter Reed on Friday Nights, Two Camps Stand Their Ground Every Friday night, Gael Murphy and Kristinn Taylor meet in Northwest Washington, separated by a bustling four-lane road -- and a whole lot more. Since spring, the two have stood firmly on opposite sides of Georgia Avenue NW in front of Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Murphy leading a coalition of war protesters, Taylor marshaling supporters of the Iraq war. Both sides say they are there to support the troops. Beyond that, there's little common ground. "They start yelling, 'Murderer!' 'Traitor!' They call me by name," said Murphy, a...
