Bill Clinton's national security advisor (predecessor to Condoleezza Rice) has pled GUILTY to stealing classified documents and destroying some of them. Notwithstanding his initial claims the incident in which he secreted documents in his pants and socks was an "honest mistake," Sandy Berger copped a plea and got a dainty slap on the wrist. Berger's theft and lying were neither honest NOR a mistake. He willfully, with malice of forethought, and full knowledge of the severity of his crime, stole classified documents and destroyed some of them. The act is outflippingragous. The arrogance of Berger in presuming he could (and...

The deal's terms make clear that Berger spoke falsely last summer in public claims that in 2003 he twice inadvertently walked off with copies of a classified document during visits to the National Archives, then later lost them. He described the episode last summer as "an honest mistake...." The terms of Berger's agreement required him to acknowledge to the Justice Department the circumstances of the episode. Rather than misplacing or unintentionally throwing away three of the five copies he took from the archives, as the former national security adviser earlier maintained, he shredded them with a pair of scissors late...

How long are we going to tolerate senators and congressmen who divulge our most closely-held secrets to the public in search of cheap political gain? We have laws that make those leaks serious federal crimes. We're spending enormous resources on finding out who leaked Valerie Plame's identity as a CIA agent to the press. Leaks that are vastly more important -- and which should be pursued with no less determination and resources -- are regularly ignored because the culprits are sitting members of Congress. These leakers should be thrown out of office and prosecuted. It's been about two years...

December 12, 2004 New Spy Plan Said to Involve Satellite System By DOUGLAS JEHL WASHINGTON, Dec. 11 - A highly classified intelligence program that the Senate intelligence committee has tried unsuccessfully to kill is a new $9.5 billion spy satellite system that could take photographs only in daylight hours and in clear weather, current and former government officials say. The cost of the system, now the single biggest item in the intelligence budget, and doubts about its usefulness have spurred a secret Congressional battle, which first came to light this week, over the future of a system whose existence has...

Last night my jaw dropped when Senator Kerry talked about the U.S. testing nuclear tipped bunker-buster bombs. And how under "his watch" this program would be discontinued. The President did not touch his comment, and I figured it was because it was Classified and could/should not be talked about. Since the "cat" is out of the bag, perhaps we need to investigate and see if perhaps Senator Kerry just violated his security clearance. We need to check into this and break this into the open just like Rathergate. KC1

A former dictator's cocktail preferences and a facetious plot against Santa Claus were classified by the government to prevent public disclosure. Also stamped "secret" for six years was a study that concluded 40 per cent of U.S. army chemical-warfare masks leaked. These and other ludicrous and lethal examples of classification were cited Tuesday by members of Congress and witnesses at a House of Representatives subcommittee hearing into the Sept. 11 commission's conclusion that secrecy is undermining efforts to thwart terrorists. Some classifications were made in error or to save face. The CIA (news - web sites) deleted the amount Iraqi...

The Candidate With No Name By Andrew L. Jaffee, July 29, 2004 Home Search Forum Terms ”Defeat Bush – VOTE In 2004!” I’ve seen more bumper-stickers with this platitude than I’ve seen ones that simply state, “Kerry/Edwards 2004.” While my liberal friends rarely mention Kerry and Edwards, they constantly remind me of how much they hate President Bush. This year, the politics of hate rule. The Left doesn’t even have a candidate. They are galvanized mainly by visceral hatred -- a hatred which stands on shaky assumptions, like the lies that Michael Moore sells as truths. In Fahrenheit 9/11, Moore insinuates that...

I've posted this top a few other threads. Please ignore if you've seen it before ... I called our local Clear Channel station the night after this story broke and spoke for about 10 minutes describing the procedures used to handle classified information. The following is a basic description of what I said ... 1) A person who wishes to review classified information at a given facility must have his/her clearance on file with the security office that has legal custody of the information. 2) Once they arrive to the facility, they must show their credentials to identify themselves, sign...

May 21, 2004 THE STATE Classified Disk Is Missing at Arms Lab By Peter Hong and Rebecca Trounson, Times Staff Writers Officials at the federal nuclear weapons research lab in Los Alamos, N.M., confirmed Thursday that a computer disk containing classified information was missing from the lab, but said the loss posed no threat to national security. An Irish graduate student has uncovered words blacked-out of declassified US military documents using nothing more than a dictionary and text analysis software.Claire Whelan, a computer science student at Dublin City University was given the problems by her PhD supervisor as a diversion. David Naccache, a cryptographer with Gemplus, challenged her to discover the words missing from two documents: one was a memo to George Bush, and another concerned military modifications to civilian helicopters. The process is quite straightforward, and according to Naccache, Whelan's success proves that merely blotting words out of declassified documents will not keep the contents secret. The first...

The crew of a Navy spy plane that landed on China's Hainan Island in April 2001 after colliding with a Chinese fighter jet did not destroy all classified materials aboard, and it is "highly probable" that some fell into Chinese hands, Navy investigators concluded. The report, which was released in response to a Freedom of Information Act request by Jane's Defense Weekly, blamed the Chinese fighter pilot for the collision and did not fault the Navy crew for failing to complete the destruction of classified information aboard the EP-3. Specifics about the classified materials were deleted from the released version...

CIA Releases New 'Noah's Ark' Documents Posted Nov. 13, 2002 By Timothy W. Maier Is it the Ark, or just a piece of rock? Two years after Insight filed an appeal charging that the CIA withheld documents and imagery concerning the Mount Ararat anomaly in Turkey, the CIA has released two new documents to Insight that indicate the search for "Noah's Ark" reached the level of the White House under former president George H.W. Bush. The appeal, filed one month after Insight's exclusive story (see "Anomaly or Noah's Ark?"; Nov. 20, 2000), comes on the heels of the CIA's releasing...

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The US government accidentally gave Zacarias Moussaoui, the only person charged in connection with the September 11 attacks, classified information about al-Qaeda, ABC News reported. The documents and computer disks were mistakenly handed over to Moussaoui along with materials the government is required to furnish for his legal defense, several legal sources, including one at the Justice Department, told the network Friday. Moussaoui is serving as his own counsel. Officials "are not 100 percent certain, but there is no evidence that Zacarias Moussaoui had read" the classified material about the terror network of Osama bin Laden...
