Thank you, Clay Aiken for singing the clean, sweet spirit of Christmas. I never watched “American Idol” even when friends who knew I loved music would tell me, “You gotta hear this guy.” I couldn’t have cared less. I tuned out of popular music years ago. The entire genre had become too degraded. Clay Aiken may change all that for me, but back to Christmas. Aiken’s CD “Merry Christmas with Love” is the music your entire family can enjoy. You won’t find an over-the-top, joking or corny song in the entire batch. This is the real deal. His medley of...
  • School yanks "Santa Baby" from holiday program, calling it too suggestive

A Christmas controversy is brewing at a Chesapeake school. It involves the song "Santa Baby," originally recorded by Eartha Kitt in 1953, and re-done a few years ago by Madonna. A group of eighth grade girls planned to perform the song in a holiday show. However, a parent complained to the school that the lyrics were sexually suggestive and should not be included in the annual holiday show. Officials at the Greenbrier Middle School removed the song from the show, saying that the song is too risqué. The humorous song, usually sung in a sultry voice, depicts a woman asking...

Many radio stations went all-Christmas last year; in some cases, it was a "stunt" before a format change. In others, it was a case of trying to make a lot of money--er, of serving the listeners! :) The same is happening this year though it depends on where you live. Of course more than a few stations jumped the gun, getting into the Christmas mood _before_ Thanksgiving. Hey, trim-a-tree up in the stores before Halloween--why not? We all know what this holiday is all about: making money. (And of course, it's all about Santy Claus--who's this "Jesus" guy that gets...

Shop workers in Austria are demanding compensation for the "psychological terror" of being subjected to hours of piped Christmas music. A study by trade union leaders found that listening to endless hours of Silent Night and Jingle Bells made shop staff "aggressive and confrontational". Austrian Trade Union Federation spokesman Gottfried Rieser said: "By the time Christmas comes around there are large scores of abused shop workers who hate the very idea of it. "They cannot bear to listen to Christmas songs and completely lose their temper at the slightest mention of anything to do with Christmas." Union lawyers had been...
