DURHAM, N.C. - A North Carolina man has been arrested after police say he kidnapped a family at gunpoint and forced them to take him shopping. Durham police say on Tuesday 29-year-old Rollin Anthony Owens Jr. knocked on the door of a house in the West End neighborhood asking for money. A resident gave Rollins money, but police say he then used a gun to force the residents - a man, woman and two children - out of the house and into their vehicle. Owens allegedly made the driver take him to a convenience store, then a Target where a...

Seven months after the election, Hillary Clinton remains as unpopular today as she was after November's election, a new poll found. According to Gallup, Americans' views of the Democratic presidential candidate remain unchanged, as 41 percent of people said they have a favorable view of Clinton, who challenged President Trump in last year's presidential race. Clinton's favorability has remained unchanged over the last seven months, Gallup reported, with 43 percent of Americans saying they had a positive view of the 2016 presidential candidate in November. Her favorability dropped to 41 percent in December, and has been the same since then.

Things will never be the same in America from this moment forward. When 66-year-old James Hodgkinson attempted to gun down as many Republican members of Congress as possible at a baseball field in Virginia, he permanently shattered the notion that we could go back to the way that things used to be in this country. At one time, Republicans and Democrats may have strongly disagreed with one another over the issues, but there was always a certain code of civility that everyone understood and respected. But now that is long gone, and if our politicians and the big media outlets...

Imagine you need to cross a busy street, you have two options go across the crosswalk ( legally ) or take the quicker path and jaywalk ( illegally ) ... well imagine if coming to live in another country was like crossing a street. At the cross walk there would be a open manhole covers with no road cones around them, a line of government bureaucrats standing between you and the "press for signal button" at the cross walks. The crosswalk light wouldn't work as the button would be missing or broken. The traffic would be constantly moving with through...

Former Vice President Joe Biden, warning of transgender Americans “under attack” in Republican-led states, on Wednesday challenged the nation’s LGBT community to push back against President Donald Trump’s administration. “Hold President Trump accountable for his pledge to be your friend,” Biden declared at a private LGBT gala hosted by the Democratic National Committee in New York. “Just because you don’t have Barack and me in the White House doesn’t mean it’s time to give up, keep quiet, stay on the sidelines.” Trump vowed to protect the LGBT community during his campaign, but critics say he hasn’t kept his word since...

India’s population is expected to surpass China’s in about seven years and Nigeria is projected to overtake the United States and become the third most populous country in the world shortly before 2050, a U.N. report said Wednesday. The report by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs’ Population Division forecasts that the current world population of nearly 7.6 billion will increase to 8.6 billion by 2030, 9.8 billion in 2050 and 11.2 billion in 2100. It said roughly 83 million people are added to the world’s population every year and the upward trend is expected to continue even with...

After finishing first among defensemen in the regular season with 29 goals and 76 points, and leading the league with 320 shots, Burns was thought to be the frontrunner ahead of fellow finalists Erik Karlsson from Ottawa and Tampa Bay's Viktor Hedman. “I’m going to be introducing legislation this week … to allow congressmen to carry a sidearm, should they so desire,” Rep. Mo Brooks said in an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.” Members of Congress are “high-profile targets,” the congressman said, adding that they have “absolutely no way to defend ourselves because of Washington, D.C.’s rather restrictive gun laws,” the Alabama congressman said. “I want congressmen to be treated as if they were law enforcement,” Brooks said, “given that we are high-profile targets for the bad guys, the lone wolves, the terrorists.”

A measure to expand acupuncture access to veterans was introduced last week in the House of Representatives. The bill, called the "Acupuncture for Our Heroes Act," was sponsored by Rep. Judy Chu, D-California, and would require acupuncturist services be available at veterans health facilities. In an email to NBC News, Chu said she has seen how useful acupuncture was in treating pain and other health problems. An acupuncturist applies acupuncture needles to a patient's neck. he recycling process is done in Fountain Valley at the Groundwater Replenishment System, which is the world’s largest facility to treat and purify wastewater and transform it into drinking water. “You’ll see this water tastes no different from any other water but can be a great source of additional water to help get us through our increasing demand for drinking water and through our increasing droughts,” said Mehul Patel, Director of Water Production for the OCWD. Here’s an interesting fact. The law currently limits using this recycled water to replenish groundwater basins or for irrigation purposes. But a new state...

Star Trek has remained a ship somewhat adrift, especially since the prequel series Star Trek: Enterprise was canceled before its fifth season. When J.J. Abrams brought his kinetic, alternative timeline to life in 2009, the long-running saga received a shot in the arm. Since then, the franchise, now split between Paramount (film) and CBS (small screen), continues to seek out for the right vehicle to truly set the stars ablaze in the 21st century. Star Trek Into Darkness and Beyond were both exciting and generally well-received entries but fell victim to diminishing returns at the box office when Beyond’s meager...

In an exclusive interview with ABC News, a juror in the Bill Cosby sexual assault case said that after dozens of hours of grueling deliberations in a tiny room, 10 of the 12 jurors agreed he was guilty on two counts. On a third count, only one of the jurors believed he was guilty. The final, intractable votes on the first of the three counts was 10 to two to find Cosby guilty of digitally penetrating accuser Andrea Constand without her consent, the juror said. On the second count, that she was unconscious or unaware during the incident, the juror...

An experimental drug is showing promise against an untreatable eye disease that blinds older adults — and intriguingly, it seems to work in patients who carry a particular gene flaw that fuels the damage to their vision. Age-related macular degeneration, or AMD, is the leading cause of vision loss among seniors, gradually eroding crucial central vision. There are different forms but more than 5 million people worldwide, and a million in the U.S., have an advanced type of so-called "dry" macular degeneration that has no treatment. First patients may notice blurriness when they look straight ahead. Eventually many develop blank...

Melania Trump’s latest look is a departure from the bright look she wore earlier this week at the White House. After wearing a light blue Michael Kors dress and floral Christian Louboutin pumps to meet with the president of Panama and his wife, she was spotted on Tuesday night wearing a black, long-sleeve lace Dolce & Gabbana dress that hit at her knees. She paired the dress with what appeared to be Manolo Blahnik’s BB pumps, although that’s not confirmed. President Donald Trump and Melania were on their way to dinner at the Naval Observatory, where Vice President Mike Pence...
