She finished her speech in English, but when I first tuned in, she was speaking German, with an interpreter providing the translation on Fox. Not that I have a problem with her speaking German in her address, but I was wondering, why would she when she can speak English VERY well? Is it a question of formality or is it a choice by the speaker? Thanks!

Add one more soldier to the Left’s war on Fox News: Oscar the Grouch. Last week, in a re-broadcast of an episode that originally aired two years ago, Oscar starts his own news network, GNN (Grouchy News Network). An irate viewer calls in to berate him that the news is not grouchy enough: “I am changing the channel. From now on I am watching ‘Pox’ News. Now there is a trashy news show.” Later , Anderson Cooper from 4th place CNN, guest stars as a reporter for GNN. “Walter Cranky” and “Dan Rather-Not” — Muppets representing real-life liberal news personalities...

Minnesota Power is seeking an almost 20 percent increase in rates for its residential customers to cover investments made in cleaner, greener energy. For the average residential customer, that amounts to $13 per month. “We know this is unwelcome news at an unwelcome time,” said Pat Mullen, the company’s vice president of marketing and public affairs. “These are improvements that need to be made. It is creating an environment that we all value.”

November 2, 2009 Life of Muhammad To Be Filmed, But Don’t Expect To See Him On Screen In Hollywood terms, it was the greatest story almost never told - until now. With Middle Eastern money becoming an increasingly powerful cog in the global entertainment industry, it was perhaps inevitable that, sooner or later, someone would embark on a mega-budget epic about the life of the Prophet Mohammed. That moment has arrived thanks to a wealthy Qatari media company which has put together a team featuring a crack Hollywood producer and a Muslim cleric who is banned from visiting Britain to...

The call came into the 911 dispatcher: "I don't want to hurt anybody. I'm drunk." And with that, Mary Strey, 49, of Granton, reported herself as a drunken driver about three miles northeast of Neilsville in central Wisconsin. In the 911 call, Strey said she wanted to report a drunken driver and the dispatcher asked if she was behind the suspect vehicle. "I am them,"

My 13 year old daughter has spina bifida occulta (holes in the bone) in several vertebrae and has had lordosis all her life. It has never been to the degree of needing surgery, although we were warned the teen years would be tricky with puberty and growth spurts. Today she went for her annual xray screening because she has had problems with her legs going numb if she sits in one position too long and also constipation. (She'd kill me if she knew I was posting this on the web!) Anyway, after the xrays were taken, I asked to see...

While wine snobs have blighted the earth for thousands of years (you can bet there was at least one guy curling his lip at the vintage of Jesus’ first and best miracle), beer snobbery is a relatively young art, especially in the U.S. This is because every beer in the country once tasted exactly the same. Oh sure, there were Bud lovers and MGD aficionados who would swear they could tell the difference, but if you gave them a blind taste test, you’d soon discover they’d just keep asking for another “test taste” until there wasn’t any beer left and...

But I have a problem with pit bulls. And it has more to do with the two-legged creatures holding their leashes (if there is a leash).Because of their sheer numbers—estimates show that there are anywhere from 5 million to 10 million pit-bull-type dogs in the U.S. today, out of about 61 million total dogs—pits have become the dog du jour for a lot of people, not just gangbangers and wannabe thugs who use a pit as proxy for toughness. About 20 percent of dogs in ASPCA shelters are pit mixes. I've seen those who adopt these dogs for all the...

Bob Dylan still had a few tricks up his sleeve for his Halloween show at the Aragon Entertainment Center in Chicago last night (October 31). Not only did Dylan perform “It’s All Good” (from “Together Through Life”) for the first time ever, but the band covered a verse of the Tom Waits song, “Jesus Gonna Be Here” (actually guitarist Stu Kimball sang, introduced as Waits). Tour debut for “To Ramona”. Here's the set list, courtesy Bob Links. 1. Gonna Change My Way Of Thinking (Bob on keyboard) 2. Lay, Lady, Lay (Bob on guitar) 3. Beyond Here Lies Nothin' (Bob...

Wondering if anyone has recommendations for a handgun for a petite woman (me...5'2", 110lbs). Have used a small semi-automatic years ago, not sure of caliber. FIL worries that I might lack strength for semi-auto; I worry that loading bullets under pressure vs. loading ammo clip would waste precious time. Just curious what the ladies here are using? Going to gun range tonight and I think I will have the opportunity to handle a few different guns. Would like input to maybe weed out some choices that would be inappropriate for my size/needs. Another question: we currently have no handguns in...

I wonder if Obama’s thugs will be dispatched to the polling places on Tuesday. Remember the intimidation at the polls last fall, and Holdren’s sitting on his hands about it? Anyone have an idea how we tea party types can find some legal way to prevent this, maybe citizens who carry camcorders and whip them out if needed to document trouble? Any ideas?

Frugality Is A Given This Holiday Season Lean times demand creative ways to make merry: Be less lavish, shop early, haggle over prices, buy with cash, give heirlooms, make your own gifts and reuse decorations. Shopping early, leaving the credit cards at home and using only cash can help you save money. (Christopher Serra / For The Times) Andrea Chang November 1, 2009 The holiday shopping season is getting underway, but despite the not-so-gentle prodding of retailers and some economists, Americans are in no mood to overspend. ¶ Millions are still struggling with unemployment or reduced income. Others are concerned...

BEIJING (AFP) - – Chinese meteorologists covered Beijing in snow Sunday after seeding clouds to bring winter weather to the capital in an effort to combat a lingering drought, state media reported. The unusually early snow blanketed the capital from Sunday morning and kept falling for half the day, helped by temperatures as low as minus 2 Celsius (29 Fahrenheit) and strong winds from the north, Xinhua news agency reported. Besides falling in the northeastern provinces of Liaoning and Jilin and the northern province of Hebei, the eastern port city of Tianjin also got its first snow of the autumn,...

When did kids stop saying thank you for all the candy they're getting. I am running about 1 in 4 of the kids saying thank you, and I am not talking about the little ones either. Only about half are even saying trick or treat. I also saw some parents following the kids in their car, and I am on a small circle street. Are they just too lazy to walk with the kids?

Early Saturday morning, 7Online.com, the website for ABC's New York affiliate WABC-TV, reported the previous night's arrest of Jason Shih, an alleged campaign worker for Governor Jon Corzine (D-NJ) charged with "possession of a controlled narcotic and paraphernalia that is used for distribution." Last week, my Dell Inspiron laptop ingested a cup of coffee (with cream and sugar, of course) and I would appreciate any suggestions. At this point, while it does shut down frequently and sporadically during the boot process, it has gotten as far as the Vista login screen. (Many of the keys aren't responding so I can't log in.) Since so much of it is working, my thought is that a good internal cleaning to remove the coffee/cream/sugar gunk would be a good next step. Can anyone offer any guidance on disassembling this computer and how to best clean it...
