Mayors of Oakland, San Jose and Sacramento are among officials from two dozen Northern California cities and counties considering a plan to buy out PG&E for up to $50 billion. Under the proposal, led by San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo, PG&E (NYSE:PCG) would become a giant customer-owned cooperative. Bonds would be issued to acquire the company and paid off through customers' monthly electric bills. The story was first reported in the Wall Street Journal. The coalition of officials sent a letter today to the California Public Utilities Commission and Gov. Gavin Newsom. It outlines the plan and asks that their...
  • A climate denier-in-chief sits in the White House today. But not for long

President Trump has now fulfilled his disastrous promise to pull the United States out of the Paris Climate Agreement. The agreement represents decades of work by both Democratic and Republican administrations to achieve a common goal: bringing every country of the world together to tackle the climate crisis, the existential threat of our time. President Trump surprised no one with his decision to withdraw from the agreement. It is yet another reckless choice in line with his steps to rollback our bedrock environmental laws, which have cleaned up our water and our air for decades. But that doesn’t minimize the...

if you have been paying attention, this was an obvious action by the socialists in California. First put onerous regulations on the Utility Companies, then when the wildfires happen and burn down hundreds of homes, the legal damages cause the Utility Companies to go bankrupt resulting in Government run Utility Companies....which putting the Government in the business of owning utility companies will solve all the problems.
  • Cell phone towers shut off during PG&E power outage

Many people are without cell service after PG&E cut power to two milllion people and wildfires burn across California. In Marin County, close to 50 percent of all cell sites are down. In Sonoma County, 17 percent of sites are without power.  "The biggest concern is that when it comes to 911 calls, 81 percent of 911 calls are made from your wireless phone so having cell sites down it's an incredible public safety concern that consumers cannot access emergency services," said Ana Maria Johnson with the California Public Utilities Commission. Johnson said cell towers don't have back-up power systems because cell companies are not required...

Marketwatch ^ | PG&E stock plunges to record low after Citi warns it could be worthless
Shares of PG&E Corp. plummeted on heavy volume to a record low Friday, after Citigroup warned that the latest California wildfire, which the utility may have helped start, could render them worthless. PG&E PCG-28.5% said Friday that it filed an incident report with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) regarding the “Kincade” fire, which broke out near Geyserville in Sonoma County.

Going solar isn’t necessarily any protection from California’s new “planned” power outages, and local residents and businesses are enduring a lot more than just a few inconveniences. Bloomberg’s Chris Martin has a story on California’s troubles with one of my favorite headlines ever: “Californians Learning That Solar Panels Don't Work in Blackouts.” Apparently, many of California’s would-be Earth-savers had no idea that just putting solar panels on their roofs doesn’t mean they’ll have power when PG&E switches it off. As Martin explains:
  • California Officials declare Ham Radio no longer a benefit

The People’s Republic of California is at it again; through unelected state officials, California is severing ties to ham radio repeater owners throughout the state, jeopardizing the lives of millions of Californians who depend on these repeaters to operate during emergencies. Last month, repeater operators were sent emails telling them the State would no longer allow them to operate repeaters on public land without paying substantial rental fees. In the letter sent by CAL FIRE, the state claims Ham operators no longer provide a benefit to the state or public safety. They claimed that “constantly changing technological advances” has made...

Election security is more than Russian hackers trying to change votes. We must secure the chain of custody of ballots, validate the identity of the voter, and maintain updated voter lists. Thus far, Democrats have shown no interest in any of that. Take, for example, the race between former Republican Rep. David Valadao and Democrat T. J. Cox in California’s rural 21st district. When polls closed, Valadao led Cox by 6,000 votes — or 8 percent. That margin was wide enough for media outlets to call the race for Valadao. However, late ballots delivered by third-party groups broke so heavily...
