  • Letter from an ER nurse in Vancouver BC

Regarding some guy who wrote a letter to apologize for rioting and burning cars. Hope I can post this here. Worthy read: ER Nurse's Letter"You, Tim Kwong, are a douchtard. Apology not accepted."

I'm sure some of this guy's stuff has been posted around here before, I found him by accident. Pretty funny, dude seems to be on the level. I don't think he is faking it, but would love opinions.
  • What is up with the XX-1/2 post numbers?

    06/01/2011 9:18:09 PM PDT · by West Texas Chuck · 81 replies
I can't help myself, I am a nosy person. In the last week or so I have seen two different posters with an XX-1/2 post number, a weird join date, and a FReep name that leads to some YouBoob or Wiki destination. What the heck is up with this? Check 24-1/2. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2728498/posts Makes me think we are being hacked. I dunno, but that is shennanigans of some sort. I guess I'm just a suspicious person, but abnormal stuff gets my attention.
  • Vanity: You ever want to read up on an interesting guy, look up Steve McQueen sometime.

I always liked that guy's films, own a couple of 'em. What an interesting read. Go to Wiki sometime and put his name in, wow. That guy was cool. I guess I didn't realize he died so young (ha, 50, I'm older than that). I can identify with him so much, what a trip. I love that film "Le Mans" because I am a racing film. It is basically stupid, except for the tasty automobiles, but I watch it every few months and always get a tear. I'm weird like that about films.

FR threads | as seen in date stamp | little old me
People keep asking the same questions over and over in each thread on this topic, I thought I would try to lump them all together and give my analysis of each. Maybe this will help answer a few questions already sorted out before new threads are started, at least until it turns into another hair-pulling, face scratching, dress tearing free-for-all like some threads around here have.

I don't think there is better fish to eat than crappie. Tuna is good, bass is OK, catfish can be tasty, but there ain't nothing better than good Arkansas crappie.
  • What happened between Mark Simone and Ann Coulter?

    04/11/2011 10:13:35 PM PDT · by West Texas Chuck · 14 replies
When Mark Simone stands in for Mark Levin he used to always have Ann Coulter on at some point. I heard him on there recently and he was very dismissive and avoided talking nice about her.
  • Another episode of Coming Home, more tears from the people in my home.

Wow, this show just gets better. I can hardly stand to watch it anymore, I always cry, I can't stop it. A man is not supposed to cry, but stuff like this just cuts me in half. Thank you Lifetime Channel, you can continue to cut my guts out, I don't mind. I'll watch, and I'll drain my eyes every time I guess.

If it really happens, I for one will hoist a schooner of Dogfish 60. I'll laugh my lips off, let's do this! I don't think they have the cajones to do it, but I guess it could happen.

My woman is strong, I can't even tell you how much. And I am a big strong man. But my woman has watched the tears come out of my eyes, and I have seen her shed them too.

Remember that Thanksgiving when W turned up in Baghdad? I do. I had an Iraqi Freedom veteran Marine, just back from deployment, staying at my house. When I heard it on the radio I ran in the house and we threw on the TV and there was our President, addressing troops at some military base. That took some guts. I still respect him for doing that.

Yeah, I want a Ruger 10-22 bull barreled beauty too, but for now I'm toying with the idea of a simple bolt .22 with iron sights. Nothing fancy, just a plaything for plinking.

Since all our Cowpies will be on the links in Hawaii or in the topless bars, or maybe sucking up to Boss Hogg so they can sit in his suite to watch the Pack trounce the Steelers, I find it relevant to remind all that there is another Big Game on Sunday. http://animal.discovery.com/tv/puppy-bowl/
  • Vanity: Calling all Martial Arts film fans

I have the most awesome collection of martial arts films of anyone I know. I love this stuff. I own everything from old Kurosawa, Shaw Brothers and a lot of more contemporary stuff. I couldn't even list them all here. My favorites are Japanese Jidaigeki, all that old weird Samurai stuff. I own every Zatoichi film ever made and all the TV episodes I have been able to locate. Shintaro Katsu was a genius and his sense of humor always cracks me up. I also have some really good modern stuff, "Twilight Samurai" and "The Hidden Blade" and "The Samurai...

    little ol' me
A recent thread here talked about a Christmas song I enjoy, "Grandma got run over by a reindeer." It brought back to me all those goofy Christmas tunes I always enjoyed. We used to have an NPR DJ here, Glenn Mitchell, who did 6-24 hours of Christmas music you probably never heard, tons of good stuff. Here's my fave, from good old Robert Earl Keen: "Merry Christmas from the family" Mom got drunk and Dad got drunk at our Christmas party. We were drinking champagne punch and homemade eggnog. Little sister brought her new boyfriend. He was a Mexican. We...

I'm about to start learning Fedora Linux and I'd like to build up an older Dell Dimension I have into a box to play on. I was able to get an old copy of Red Hat to load and boot but it's useless because I can't figure out how to get it on my wireless network and besides, I never could figure out anything useful to do with it. I tried PCLinux and Ubuntu but could never get either to boot. I've been told I can boot Linux from a thumb drive and this might be an interesting option so...
