BERWICK, Louisiana (WVLA) - A deer hunter captures a spooky image wandering through the Louisiana woods at night. A hunter near Baton Rouge says he found this freaky photo on his deer stand camera. The hunting camera was broken but the memory card was still there and so was this bizarre image. It looks like a cross between a human and an animal, with long slender appendages and glowing eyes. The hunter says he just hopes it's a vegetarian, if he runs into it in the woods again.

WAYNE — On one side, a Wayne Valley High school student claims that his use of the word “Taliban” was innocent, mentioned in a conversation about a video game, according to his mother. But to a Muslim student who overheard it at school on Thursday, it was upsetting. And she had perceived that he had looked at her when he said it, Principal Robert Reis said.

Subsidizing Sanctuary Cities: Federal Government Reimburses for Jailing Illegals, Even When Locals Obstruct Immigration Enforcement WASHINGTON, Nov. 8, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A new Center for Immigration Studies Memorandum finds that the Department of Justice annually awards millions of dollars in grants to local governments to compensate for the cost of jailing illegal aliens, even when those governments have policies obstructing immigration law enforcement or encouraging illegal settlement. The report includes a list of the 27 sanctuary jurisdictions receiving grants in 2010. The grant program, known as the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP), doled out a total of $400 million...

There's no contest. Of all the major religions, the Muslims have the most graphic view of heaven. It's refreshing, in fact. They don't mess around invoking vague spaces of peace and light; they come through with Relais et Châteaux specifics. One imam tells Barbara Walters on her ABC special tonight: "We will be in comfortable homes, reclining on silk couches. We will have people coming - servants, lovely servants, young youths to regale you, Barbara. Residing in gardens beyond which rivers flow." Yes - to cut to the chase - there will be virgins, too. Even for women. (Barbara's "youths.")...

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals said a Hispanic field worker died over the weekend of rabies. The victim was initially taken to a hospital in New Roads and transferred to New Orleans, where he later died. Lisa Faust with DHH confirmed the case is the first human death in Louisiana attributed to rabies in more than 60 years. The department reported it has contacted the victim's co-workers and tested them. Health officials are continuing to follow up on their treatment. DHH added the man, who is unidentified at this time, contacted rabies in...

For a political hopeful in Alabama, it could be the ultimate endorsement -- a show of support from University of Alabama football coach Nick Saban. Bessemer Councilwoman Dorothy Davidson, who is running for mayor of the city, claims she secured Saban's endorsement of her campaign three weeks ago. Davidson printed it on a color campaign flier that shows her and the coach smiling side by side on a golf course.

The Noble Frontier Driller's massive orange support columns and 175-foot steel derrick cut a majestic figure as it pulled into Signal International's east shipyard in Pascagoula, Miss., last weekend, a casualty of President Barack Obama's six-month moratorium on deepwater oil and gas exploration.

DENVER -- Contentious political contests and Colorado's biggest experiment yet with mail-in voting has drawn a record number of primary voters, with Republicans alone already surpassing the total number of ballots cast from both parties in the 2006 general election for governor. Most Colorado counties are using all-mail balloting and as of midday Tuesday, 38 percent of Democrats had voted and nearly 42 percent of Republicans had turned in ballots, according to figures from the Secretary of State's Office. Both figures are much higher than usual for a primary race. Denver had a voter turnout of about 16 percent in...

WASHINGTON, D.C., Jul 28 - The CLEAR Act is being sold as a response to the Gulf oil spill crisis, yet the bill itself stretches far beyond addressing this tragedy to include page after page of provisions that are unrelated to the oil spill, will kill American jobs, and are premature by acting before Congress has the full facts from the numerous ongoing investigations into the Deepwater Horizon explosion and spill. The Obama Moratorium on deepwater drilling has already cost tens of thousands of jobs and this bill will eliminate even more American energy jobs by making it harder and...

Louisiana officials and business owners told the Senate Small Business Committee this week how deeply the Obama administration's ban on deepwater drilling is affecting the state's economy -- offering a persuasive case against the ill-considered blanket moratorium. Leslie Bertucci and her husband own a business that leases equipment used on offshore rigs. "We employ 14 people,'' she told the committee. "Those 14 people have families to take care of -- 42 spouses and children to be exact. In addition, we have more than 40 vendors that we order supplies and services from every month.'' She put a face on the...

Celebrity appearances in games are becoming more common, but here's one I never expected to see: Apparently you'll be able to meet President Obama in the next Madden game if you take your team all the way to the Super Bowl. IGN brings word of the odd addition to the long-running football series, part of an effort to make winning the Super Bowl in-game seem more important and exciting. The new Super Bowl ceremonies will also include changing commentary based on what team wins. Check out the full report at IGN for video of the event in-game. Even as someone...

Despite a total blackout from the liberal media in the New Orleans area, the Northshore Tea Party attracted 2,000 people to the Fleur de Lis Center in Mandeville on Saturday. This was the group’s largest crowd in their 18-month history as part of the incredible Tea Party movement, the most substantial political force to hit this country in decades. Unfortunately, hundreds of people were turned away as only 1,100 people were allowed in the building. The seating capacity was reached well before the event started. It was an enthusiastic crowd of patriotic, flag waving, God fearing Americans who are upset...

We have discussed at some length on The Hayride the fact that Environmental Protection Agency rules on maritime water discharge forbid the release of anything containing more than 15 parts per million of oil. On Monday, in fact, as we discussed the top seven examples of federal idiocy in the oil spill response, the application of this EPA regulation – designed to prevent oil from being added to water, rather than efforts to remove it – to the Gulf spill response was the worst of those examples. As it happens, the best way to handle an oil spill is a...
