Matter waves, find a physics book and study up on them, they explain what time and gravity really are.

You are familiar with the idea of a blimp and tether line to the ground, yes? With twin blimps at about 1000’ intervals, flat platform between, you could build a tension tower up to 10 miles high; the tropopause. The tether line would be power cable, lightning ground rod, and elevator cable. The blimps, with 4 or more propellers, would fly into the wind maintaining a fixed position over the ground tether point.

Best place to tether it : the equatorial doldrums with usually mild weather, although it could be tethered almost anywhere, the 50+ twin blimps are individual units that fly to grade with an on-coming violent storm.

Compression towers like this burj pebble sway side to side in the ambient wind, this puppy would tend to move up-down with stretching tether lines. Icing and lightning(50V/m electropotential gradient)issues are the main concerns. This tension tower would be a test bed for the proposed space elevator concept.

A couple of facts : US buildings use 1/3 of the energy produced, and it takes 3 KW in the power system to deliver 1 KW to your electrical panel. If every building in the US was super-duper insulated the demand for new energy supplies would drop dramatically. Also, fish have tapered tails, semitrucks have flat backs(thus enormous drag from turbulence), why?

The dim-dem philosophy has long ruled in Hawaii, fueled by the seemingly never ending tourist trade and the BIG BUCKS that flow from it. Now comes the world wide credit crunch and that tourist trade inevitably dwindles. Suddenly the something-for-nothing Hawaiian dems wake up to the real facts, that their lifeblood is oozing away and they are a LONG way from anywhere, lost out in the middle of a vast ocean. Supplies run low, prices skyrocket; they have long since forgotten self sufficiency. How many people could Hawaii support if it was back to the pre-Captain Cook days? 911 and its drop in the tourist trade was a warning, quickly forgotten it seems.

Then too, tidal waves hit HI every 10 years on the average, over the last 100 years. It’s been over 30 years since the last one. They DID have a recent earthquake/undersea landslide near Kona though...

Trapped vapor is a possible problem to be sure, I was thinking more like insulated panels, say 6” thick urethane within vinyl surfaces, being screwed onto existing exterior walls, over existing siding. Yes, you have fenestrations like doors, windows, hose bibbs, exterior electrical outlets, vents..but the point is QUILT, greatly increasing R values. Same idea applies to roofs.

But it probably is all moot anyway. People involved with the energy business either have vested interests(more $$ from fuel taxes, rising prices)or a blind spot, busy thinking about new sources rather than sinks as thru heat being dumped into the cold winter night sky thru windows. It appears then that the world(of people)will waltz on to oblivion, never seeing the simple answers, like INSULATION; as they sit there with their pet cat in their lap...

Anything that adds insulation is helpful. I’ve also heard of vacuum beads(like tiny thermos bottles)that can be added to paint. It seems to be a local vs global problem. An insulation project at $3000 is too much for the local homeowner to handle financially and yet states have weatherization programs already in place, what’s lacking is political leadership by pols in big oil’s pocket(vested interests).

True, fat people don’t need heavy coats, volume to surface ratio. But tell that to deer, bears living outside thru the winter. They wouldn’t survive if not for those insulating fur coats. Massive apt buildings have their own problems, most people like to live in their own home on their own land, the castle/turf instinct.

Thus exterior window shutters : operable, insulating, automatic-on-photocells at a decent price would save oodles of heat=money pouring out of those windows during the long winter nights. Then too, in hot climates they could close on the south side to prevent too much solar gain(less AC required). They might also be solar cell powered as you only need the motor for a few seconds twice a day. And too, there are batteries being developed now that are as thin as paper.

Maybe then some insulation manufacturer out there is listening...

It’s more complicated than that as you well know. If CO2 was the only culprit every scientist would agree on that as the source of GW. Obviously there are many factors in atmospheric chemistry and dynamics, where we should draw the line is where the liberal control freaks try to justify themselves as KINGS OF THE WORLD, algore being their poster boy. Really though, just adding insulation to existing houses would make a lot of this energy nonsense go away. Think of mammals and their fur-insulation, they are naturally smarter than homo sap pouring energy-money out into the cold winter night through windows/poorly insulated walls.

Yes, we do live inside our boxes, however, w/o a full “fur coat” we’re akin to a short hair dog in an alaskan dog sled team : doesn’t last long in the arctic climate.

Every little bit($1500 rebate)helps. What should happen though is a vast national effort to insulate homes/buildings. Cats, dogs, mammals are born with insulating fur, as are birds with insulating feathers; why are so-called genius humans so far behind nature’s way of handling heat loss?
