Interestingly, the Maryland PUC just voted this down. It was proposed by Baltimore Gas and Electric to the Public Utilities Commission and the liberals must not have know what they were supposed to do. The Dems were griping that BG&E was just trying another way to make money.

The reason the mac GUI is god is that they stole it from Xerox. The star interface was cleaner than any I have seen since (circa 1985). The only problem with the star system was it ran on a 8 bit system and the OS was way to much for the hardware. I told the xerox engineers they needed a 32 bit system and they just looked at me like I was from mars.

I was there and my estimate was about 20,000. The microphone wasn’t turned up and it was hard to hear a number of the speakers. What was funny was the people who thought it was only a press conference suddenly got interested when they saw all of us. All of the leadership spoke.

They are proposing street cars for parts of DC. I think it is 18 miles of track down certain streets to help move folks. No it is not light rail like in Baltimore, real street cars. I guess it will get more jobs for the Metro staff.

I haven’t seen street cars in 40 years. I guess we are re-cycling ideas. I wonder if they will re-install the overhead wires, I guess they will have too.

I hire contractors for Java development in a web-sphere environment. I also hire them to perform business analysis or testing of java code.

The large majority are Indians. They have the skills, the training, and the motivation to do the job.

Perhaps it is because they work for the contracting company at lower rates than US born developers, thus giving the contracting companies a better margin. I pay the same hourly rate regardless of who the person is or where they are from.

I believe we would be hard pressed to find qualified workers if we were restricted to US only applicants. Perhaps it is the training/college coursework that is lacking. We just do not see that many qualified US born candidates.

This is not hiring a laborer type of work. Steel workers do not become Java (or COBOL) programmers.

Additionally, I have found that only about 10% of the older COBOL programmers make the jump to light speed (Java). I am an older COBOL programmer/ BAL programmer and I understand the problem, it is a paradigm shift in thinking.

If we train our young people in new development languages, new testing techniques, and new business analysis techniques than we can have more native born technical folks and less need to import talent.

No they weren't. Look at when they got their jobs. These are career folks at justice, for example Brenda Morris started in 1992 under Clinton.

I see the congressman's point but, believe me there are lots of Sheriff's sales going on in the suburbs. Lots of folks where I live (Annapolis) are losing their homes. Probably because of liar loans and got way in over their head.

Interestingly all of the ‘trust fund babies’ in her book, except for Dagny and Fransisco, sounded like the spoiled brats of today. James Taggart had obviously gone to the correct colleges, as were the heirs to 20th Century Motors.

How do you criticize a book when you haven't completed it?

All of your arguments about it not measuring up to Victor Hugo or other classic novelists seem out of place for someone who never finished the book.

I just finished that chapter last night. I love the book and have to admit that at age 66 I am just getting to Ayn Rand.

I got the book for Christmas. It is a pretty good read. But I found at least four factual errors in the book. Which leads me to wonder what other errors were in there....

For example, she quotes that Senator McCarthy was a part of the House Un-American activities committee. I guess she doesn't know the difference between the house and the Senate. I think this is part of liberal dogma but it is an error.

I thought it interesting about him shoplifting in the Sears on Wisconsin Ave.
