A group of religious castoffs has been attacking fellow Amish, cutting off their hair and beards in an apparent feud over spiritual differences, including incidents in Holmes and Carroll counties.
Joseph McVay is accused of shooting his mother, 46-year-old Deborah L. McVay, in the head with a .22-caliber rifle Jan. 2 at their home near Big Prairie. He was 10 at the time. He has denied a charge of murder as a juvenile and remains in custody.
