Blog/Opinion Posted Apr 3, 2022 by Martin Armstrong Spread the love QUESTION: Hi Martin, What do you think banks will do with mortgages if we continue experiencing high inflation and/or hyperinflation? Do you think we might be able to pay off a mortgage with gold if things get bad enough? Marc ANSWER: No! The contract is in dollars and that cannot be altered. There won’t be hyper-inflation for that takes place when the CONFIDENCE in government completely collapses. The shallow analysis of even the German Hyperinflation has created such a myth that inflation is the result of an increase in...

On Sheep, Wolves and Sheepdogs (From the book, On Combat, by Lt. Col. Dave Grossman) Sheep, Wolves, and Sheepdogs | killology "Honor never grows old, and honor rejoices the heart of age. It does so because honor is, finally, about defending those noble and worthy things that deserve defending, even if it comes at a high cost. In our time, that may mean social disapproval, public scorn, hardship, persecution, or as always, even death itself. The question remains: What is worth defending? What is worth dying for? What is worth living for?" - William J. Bennett In a lecture...

Challenging Regulatory Actions Government agencies at the state and federal levels enforce laws and regulations covering a vast range of commercial activities, such as financial disclosure requirements, workplace safety, environmental protection, and food quality and safety. Any regulatory action must be authorized by a statute passed by Congress or a state legislature, in accordance with rules established by those legislative bodies. At the federal level, government agencies must follow procedures set forth by the Administrative Procedures Act (APA). Enforcement actions must take due process and other considerations into account. Individuals, businesses, and other organizations can challenge the validity of administrative...

Pass-Through Business Taxes Previous law: Businesses organized as sole proprietorships, LLCs and partnerships don’t pay corporate tax rates. Instead, the owners pay individual income taxes on their share of business income – they’re called pass-through business taxes. Those tax rates are the same as the individual income tax rates. New law: Business owners can take a 20 percent deduction on their pass-through business income, with limits for those earning above $157,500 (single) and $315,000 (married, filing jointly).

    Caffinated Thoughts ^ | June 5, 2015 | Deberoah Thornton
The distance from Chicago to Dubuque, or Clinton, or Davenport is around 200 miles. It’s almost 250 from Burlington. This is a drive of four to five hours, even with no traffic. Yet recent and proposed actions by the federal government make Eastern Iowa part of the “greater-Chicago area.” The expanding federal nanny state has decided that our river towns, struggling to provide good jobs and decent housing for low-income people who already live here, should focus on recruiting low-income people from outside the state, instead of recruiting military veterans, active retirees, or young graduates, who can remain home, start...

It may seem strange to suggest that the study of propaganda has relevance to contemporary politics. After all, when most people think about propaganda, they think of the enormous campaigns that were waged by Hitler and Stalin in the 1930s. Since nothing comparable is being disseminated in our society today, many believe that propaganda is no longer an issue. But propaganda can be as blatant as a swastika or as subtle as a joke. Its persuasive techniques are regularly applied by politicians, advertisers, journalists, radio personalities, and others who are interested in influencing human behavior. Propagandistic messages can be used...

  • CONFLICT RESOLUTION AND CONSERVATIVE IDEOLOGY: THE USE OF CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE BY OPERATION RESCUE

    02/17/2013 12:33:26 PM PST · by PeterPrinciple · 8 replies
THE RESEARCH PROBLEM Ours is a society increasingly characterized by the use of extra-institutional means of waging and resolving conflicts. As the state becomes increasingly unable or unwilling to intervene in public conflicts, more and more individuals join social movements as a means to protect and expand their rights and interests. As a consequence, the use of civil disobedience, one method of nonviolent action, has become more common. Civil disobedience refers to "the deliberate and peaceful violation of particular laws, decrees, regulations, ordinances, military or police orders, and the like," either because such laws, etc. are considered unjust or because...

Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy ^ | Wed Dec 23, 2009 | Kimberly Brownlee
What makes a breach of law an act of civil disobedience? When is civil disobedience morally justified? How should the law respond to people who engage in civil disobedience? Discussions of civil disobedience have tended to focus on the first two of these questions. On the most widely accepted account of civil disobedience, famously defended by John Rawls (1971), civil disobedience is a public, non-violent and conscientious breach of law undertaken with the aim of bringing about a change in laws or government policies. On this account, the persons who practice civil disobedience are willing to accept the legal consequences...

Modern Monetary Theory - An Overview I’ll try to provide brief, working definitions to everything below. Before I dig in, I just want everyone reading to know that I'm not an economist, I am not an expert on anything pertaining to economics, and for all I know everything I'm about to tell you is dead wrong and I'm an idiot. Now, with that out of the way: In my recent travels around the internet, I happened across the blogs of Bill Mitchell and Warren Mosler, which discuss Modern Monetary Theory (MMT). MMT is a macroeconomic theory which tries to explain...

  • Where is Freedom?

Folks, this is something I have been thinking about for a while but need some input from others.. Freedom is a relative term, so maybe the question should be: where is more freedom? My premise is that an entrepreneur wants freedom. Not all businesses are entrepreneurial as some like big govt and regulations. There have been postings here by individuals who have intentionally reduced their business and/or gone overseas. If you distil their actions down to the core, I believe they want freedom. Freedom to risk, fail, learn, help others, make a difference. I have presented to some economic development...

Folks, I have wonder long about why the govt wants to know your credit card information. The excuse is that there are people doing business on EBAY and not reporting the income. That is small potatoes. In fact the only exemption to not reporting your business transactions on 1099's is if you paid by credit card. States have worked LONG and HARD to tax your interstate transactions and been repeatedly rebuked in courts. They modified the sales tax into sales/use tax and provided us with the the forms to voluntarily pay our use tax. IRS already has working agreements to...
