January 26, 2016 - One of the distinguishing values embraced by us New Yorkers is the pleasure we take in disparaging the fine Americans who do not live within fifty miles of salt water. Click here to enjoy a garden-variety example of an arrogant New Yorker indulging his snobby elitism to dump on flyover country. And yet, consider how New Yorkers squeal when the flownovers push back at them. Note the rage that has been directed at Ted Cruz for taking up the other side of Trump's elitism - how dare that Ted Cruz! Today's Wall Street Journal published a...

The Baltic Dry hit a new all-time low of 490 on Friday. Again, it’s the same problem as with the commodities: projects of all kinds – oil fields, mines, ships, ports – that were initiated early in the decade to take advantage of anticipated growing Chinese demand, are now coming on-line just as Chinese demand is faltering, leading to global over-capacity, over-supply and a glut of just about everything. It is an ingredient of the recession recipe. A "recession" is the painful process where excessive capacity and supply are cleared from the market.

'TROY, N.Y. — Before State Senator Roy J. McDonald, a Republican, voted last year to legalize same-sex marriage, he told reporters that anyone unhappy with his position could “take the job and shove it.” Now comes the test.' 'Mr. McDonald’s challenger, Kathleen A. Marchione, the Saratoga County clerk, is running an insurgent campaign, dialing voters from a windowless office next to a Subway sandwich shop. She accuses Mr. McDonald of having deceived the voters who elected him by changing his position on same-sex marriage, which he voted to oppose in the past. “People feel betrayed,” Ms. Marchione said. “I’ve heard...

Sorry for the Vanity Post, need some help. The Soros-funded anti-fracking propaganda film Gasland is being shown at a neighborhood school tonight, I was hoping someone could point me to some good scholarly discussion in support of the practice, not so much from an economic perspective but rather from a geological / environmental angle. Very easy to find a torrent of vehement anti-fracking material, not so easy to find anything pro-fracking. The ANGA vid I’ve pointed to is almost scary, because at the end they say they’ll “make it right” if there is any environmental degradation. But that to me...

Loudonville, NY. Entering the final week of the ampaign, Republican Chris Gibson has reversed an early campaign deficit and turned it into a 51-42 percent lead over Democratic Representative Scott Murphy, who is seeking his first re-election, according to a Siena (College) Research Institute poll of likely voters released today. Gibson has become much more known to voters over the last six weeks, with a positive three-to-two favorability rating. Murphy remains known to more voters, however, they are evenly divided between those who view him favorably and those who view him nfavorably. “Chris Gibson has completely erased a 17-point deficit...

In Upstate New York lies New York’s 20th Congressional District, a largely rural district currently held by vulnerable freshman Democrat Scott Murphy. Murphy narrowly won the seat by just over 700 votes on March 31, 2009 in a hard-fought special election after two-term Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand resigned to replace Hillary Clinton in the Senate. Republican Chris Gibson, a retired Army Colonel, will challenge Murphy this November to take back the 20th District in a race the Cook Political Report rates as a “Toss-up.”

Chris Gibson, a retired U.S. Army colonel and currently a candidate for U.S. Congress, said Monday he sees evidence of hope for this country’s renewal in the character of some of its soldiers now being remembered. He was speaking at Hudson’s Memorial Day service at the Fourth Street Park. Gibson said that on Sunday he had been to the town of Horicon, Warren County, for a ceremony honoring Horicon native Jeremiah Monroe. Pfc. Monroe was a combat engineer whose skill was to diffuse improvised explosive devices, which Gibson called “our enemy’s primary method of attack.” On Sept. 17, 2009, he...

ALBANY - Attorney General Andrew Cuomo slapped a subpoena on ex-GOP gubernatorial candidate John Faso in his probe of a massive pay-to-play pension fund scandal, the Daily News has learned. ... The timing of the subpoenas raised some eyebrows by coming just a month after a political action committee co-founded by Faso released an ad attacking Cuomo. They were the difference makers on health care reform: House Democrats who flipped from opposing the plan to supporting it, delivering a win on President Barack Obama’s signature domestic issue. Now, they are also among the Democrats’ most vulnerable incumbents, and none is building a reelection message around their famous vote.

Kinderhook, NY – Former Congressional Candidate Patrick Ziegler has ended his campaign, endorsed Chris Gibson (R-Kinderhook) and joined the Gibson for Congress Team. Patrick Ziegler surprised many with his strong showing during the endorsement process where he won two northern counties, Warren and Washington. Chris Gibson said, “Patrick Ziegler distinguished himself during this process and has earned the respect of all concerned. I am very impressed with his character, passion for this country, commitment to conservative principles, strong intellect, and tremendous public speaking skills. New York, NY-March 15...A pointed television advertisement aimed squarely at New York State Attorney General - and gubernatorial hopeful - Andrew Cuomo (D-WFP) for his refusal to investigate credible allegations against a political party that could be helpful to his prospective candidacy for governor was released today by New Yorkers for Growth, a non-partisan political action committee dedicated to bringing responsible fiscal policies back to New York State government. The 30-second spot entitled "Prince Andrew" questions why the Attorney General has failed to look into allegations that New York's Working Families Party (WFP) has, among other things, illegally used non-profit...

Mr. Kindler might take solace that he's not alone. Insurers, hospitals, utilities—many chose to accommodate a president whose health-care and climate agendas are now comatose. There's a lesson here for corporate America. Try standing up for the free markets and limited government that have always been the foundation of U.S. business. It might work out better.

  • Nassau Recount Complete - Mangano still leading (still +/- 1000 disputed ballots)

MYFOXNY.COM - Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi trails his Republican challenger by 377 votes after a countywide recount ended, according to sources. The final tally came to 122,471 votes for county legislator Edward Mangano, to 122,094 for Suozzi, a two-term incumbent who once challenged Eliot Spitzer for the nomination for governor. However, the election will not be certified until 500 ballots are re-examined and 400 to 450 disputed ballots are presented to a judge later this week. Suozzi has said he is not inclined to back a request by some of his supporters who want him to seek an entirely...
  • Obama Foreign Policy review

Mr. Obama has himself to blame for the disarray of his foreign policy. American arms had won a decent outcome in Iraq, but Mr. Obama would not claim it—it was his predecessor's war. Vigilance had kept the American homeland safe from terrorist attacks for seven long years under his predecessors, but he could never grant Bush policies the honor and credit they deserved. He had declared Afghanistan a war of necessity, but he seems to have his eye on the road out even as he is set to announce a troop increase in an address to be delivered tomorrow.

Since the Ditherer-in-Chief is asking for more options regarding Afghanistan, I'm wondering what y'all think of this one: Given that Afghanistan been a failed state since forever, why not just terminate it? Cede the southern half to Pakistan, and split the northern half between Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Nothing for Iran because they don’t play nicely in the sandbox. As part of the deal we pick up a few air bases (like Bagram) and some other useful strategic military concessions. Thoughts?
