Mercury Insurance Group, based in Los Angeles, confirmed today that 165 people were laid off in its claims division as well as some administrative staff. A company spokesman said some of the jobs were in Brea, but he could not immediately confirm how many.

Graffiti spray painted on two Santa Ana walls threatening to kill Gov. Jerry Brown has prompted an investigation by the California Highway Patrol and Santa Ana Police Department. The second spray painted message counting down the number of days Brown has left was discovered on a Santa Ana wall Thursday afternoon, just hours after the first threat was reported, Santa Ana police confirmed. This time the message included a black swastika.

(CBS/AP) Mexican news media are reporting that Mexican police officials have identified two persons of interest in connection with the shooting of an American tourist on Falcon Lake, on the U.S.-Mexico border. Tamaulipas State Police Commander Juan Carlos Ballesteros told El Universal newspaper on Saturday that authorities believe Juan Pedro Saldivar-Farias and Jose Manuel Saldivar-Farias killed Hartley. Ballesteros told the paper that the two men are accused in numerous crimes in Mexico, including burning homes, robbing businesses and several homicides. RANCHO SAN DIEGO - A vehicle bombing may be responsible for seriously injuring a woman in Rancho San Diego late Thursday afternoon. A portion of the neighborhood was evacuated due to concern there could be a second explosive device. The woman called 911 to report her pickup truck's dashboard exploded after she turned on the ignition. It happened in the 12000 block of Via Hacienda, a residential area northeast of Cuyamaca College.

os Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck was heckled Wednesday night as he addressed an angry crowd that had gathered at a Westlake school for a community meeting in the aftermath of a deadly police shooting. The crowd shouted: "Boo!" "Killers!" and "Assassins!" as Beck took the microphone at John H. Liechty Middle School. "I hope we came here to have a discussion," Beck said. As Los Angeles police pushed angry crowds west on 6th Street on Tuesday night, some protesters climbed atop multistory apartment buildings, where they threw objects at officers below. The officers responded by firing nonlethal foam projectiles toward the rooftops as residents peeked from their windows. At least 15 people were arrested for charges such as failure to disperse, Sgt. Alex Chogyoji of the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Agent Robert Rosas, 30, was shot and killed on July 23, 2009 by a group Mexican citizens illegally crossing the border near Campo.
