Yesterday I finished up my obamacare enrollment. I know, I could auto-renew but year after year I keep thinking "It's gotta get better than this." No such luck. But I discovered yet another thing about our fascist medicine healthcare program that I find disturbing. Monday is cleanup day for my Windows machine so first thing I ran a full anti-virus scan and a CCleaner scan for tracking cookies. As usual CCleaner found and removed about 40 tracking cookies and found no registry issues. Then I moved on to the healthcare.gov renewal task. This was simplified by the fact that we...

PHOENIX (AP) — It's still unclear what caused the death of a Phoenix police dog sent into a home to force the surrender of suspect who was the subject of a pursuit. Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton says Bane, a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois, "died protecting his fellow officers and our city."

Hands Down the Dumbest Product we have ever seen. The Allen Company Shoe-top Barrel rest breaks 3/4 of the firearm safety rules. 1.) Treat Every gun as though its loaded 3.) Do not let your muzzle cover anything you do not wish to destroy 4.) Know your target; its foreground and its background. This product is an abomination, we are going to test to see how it does.

The Chinese space station Tiangong-1 is expected to fall to Earth around April 1st, according to the latest estimate from the European Space Agency (ESA) and Aerospace Corporation which are continuously monitoring its descent. Tiangong-1 (天宫一号, Heavenly Palace 1) is China’s first space station and an experimental space laboratory. Its major goal was to test and master technologies related to orbital rendezvous and docking. It is identified by its UN COSPAR ID 2011-053A or NORAD ID 37820. As per Aerospace Corporation, Tiangong-1 is currently predicted to reenter the Earth’s atmosphere around April 1st, 2018 15:15 UTC ± 11 hours. The...

An Australian perspective on US election coverage - Our media look like fools, the Australian Foreign Ministry had to get Donald Trump's phone number from Greg Norman (so much for the efficiency of Echelon) and there's a swamp in Canberra that needs draining too.

In the midst of all the controversy about the tighter gun laws in New York, Governor Cuomo is announcing over $130,000 being given out to shooting ranges. The money comes as part of the "New York Open for Fishing and Hunting Initiative". One hundred thirty five thousand dollars in grants will be going to 13 shooting ranges, including $6,700 to the Lima Gun Club in Livingston County. State leaders say the hunting and fishing programs help to make people more familiar with guns and archery in order to promote safe and ethical hunting in New York.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- There is a mystery for marine biologists out on San Francisco's Ocean Beach. On Monday morning, a badly decomposed whale washed ashore, but it's probably not a species we are used to hearing about in these waters. A 50-foot long, badly decomposed whale washed-up on the beach between the base of Lawton and Kirkham streets.

For more than a year now, the mainstream media has demonized the Tea Party as a group of white racists. On September 12, 2010, we set out to see for ourselves if the Tea Party is as “monochromatic” as most of the media has steadfastly claimed to this day. DALY CITY, Calif. (KCBS) -- The owner of the Crossroads of the West Gun Show is firing back at accusations that guns are being sold illegally at his show and infiltrating neighborhoods. State Senator Mark Leno has been pushing for new legislation that would ban gun shows at the Cow Palace. In 2008, the former assemblyman tried to rally support for a similar bill but was defeated. Bob Templeton, owner of the gun show, says a formal investigation by Daly City police found that none of the weapons sold at the show were making their way onto the streets. At...

Ringing out the old 31 Dec. 2008 This will be a short post. It's New Year's Eve. Today started windy. When I woke up I could hear the wind flapping the tent sides and the hiss of snow blowing against the tent. I knew we would not start work early so I stayed in the sleeping bag. The wind died down just a little during the morning, so we decided to try foot-searching a moraine after lunch. Walking around, rather than searching from a ski-doo, would help keep us warm while we were outside. That is the theory. We kept...

Looking back over my columns of the past 12 months, one of their major themes was neatly encapsulated by two recent items from The Daily Telegraph. The first, on May 21, headed "Climate change threat to Alpine ski resorts" , reported that the entire Alpine "winter sports industry" could soon "grind to a halt for lack of snow". The second, on December 19, headed "The Alps have best snow conditions in a generation" , reported that this winter's Alpine snowfalls "look set to beat all records by New Year's Day". Easily one of the most important stories of 2008 has...

Doctors in Arizona thought a Phoenix-area woman had a possible brain tumor, but it turned out there was something else penetrating her brain – a worm. Rosemary Alvarez started experiencing numbness in her arm and blurred vision. She went to the emergency room twice and had a cat scan, but everything came up clear, MyFOXPhoenix.com reported... : Doctors removed the worm and don't believe Alvarez will have any lingering health problems. No one knows exactly where she picked up the worm –- doctors said worms can come from eating undercooked pork or spread by people who don’t wash their hands...

...Last night (Sunday, October 5th), a telescope on Mount Lemmon, Arizona, detected a tiny moving blip, the signature of a small chunk of rock moving rapidly through space. Twenty-five observations have been done since then by professional and amateur astronomers around the world, and the object's orbit has been pinned down with fairly high precision. It is almost certain to hit Earth's atmosphere around 10:46 p.m. EDT tonight, October 6th. (That's 2:46 a.m. October 7th, Greenwich Mean Time.) The rock is roughly 10 feet (3 meters) across, and it's expected to enter the atmosphere above northern Sudan at about 8...

If you googled “Invasion of South Ossetia” on Monday of this week one of the sites near the top of the list was the vitriolic anti Georgian propaganda web site “war.georgia.su” which detailed Georgian atrocities and planned atrocities against the peace loving people of South Ossetia. When I first saw it, the first thing that caught my eye (other than the over the top blood dripping pro anti Georian propaganda) was that the domain name itself. It did not end in “ge” as in Georgia but “su”, the domain name of sites in the former Soviet Union. This made me...

I just popped by Michael Moore’s web site in hopes of making a trenchant remark and was disappointed to be greeted by the following message: “The Michael Moore Forum will be down for technical reasons until further notice. We apologize for any inconvenience.” Less surprising is the fact that Mr. Moore won the “César Award”, the French Oscar, for “Best Foreign Film” and the fact that the color that greeted me at the top of his web page was yellow. Could be that the web page isn’t the only thing that is yellow.
