  • New flood insurance rates spark anxiety in Gulf

Wife and I bought a retirement home in Florida last summer and we have not yet received any flood insurance notice. But when we do we will pay the increase . . . without crying, we don’t feel that anyone but us should shoulder the cost of the house. That being said, now why can’t the farmers pay for their crop insurance without the taxpayers subsidizing their premiums with 62 cents on the dollar and paying the administrative costs?

    Ronald Reagan proved him wrong.

Really? Take a look around . . . after decades of our public education system being run by “red diaper” spoiled brats and socialist loving liberals this country looks nothing like it was when Reagan was president.

To me we should have been fighting them in the classrooms as well as on the battlefields.

Yeah, but can’t you give Minnesota a break? Why should they get the 1972 Massachusetts award?

Amy Klobuchar, Al Franken, Kieth Ellison, Mark Dayton, in 2000, minorities made up 10.6 percent of the populationfrom and in 2010 minorities accounted for more than 80 percent of the state's growth and now make up about one of every seven state residents, farmers dependent upon government subsidies, taxpayers funding for Minnesota teachers to attend 'White Privilege' conference, the University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) supporting an ad campaign aimed toward reaching “racial justice through raising awareness about “white privilege” in society and last but not least . . . the Minneapolis RED Star/Tribune.

And with the 1st REAL HARD COLD winter watch them stampede right back out! Lived there most of my life . . . it takes a strong will and a hardscrabble attitude to stay where it can go weeks without getting even above Zero.

    1. Avoid Lehigh Acres

Wondered why there were so many houses sitting empty in Lehigh Acres?

    5. Check Fort Myers Police reports for area around MLK Blvd near downtown and the courthouse

Compared Ft Myers Police report against Cape Coral and ethnic makeup already.

Cape Coral: 1. Like boating? The city is laced with canals that have gulf access although some require small boats that can get under some bridges on the way to getting to the gulf. 2. Some areas north of Pine Island Rd may not be in incorporated Cape Coral (I don't get up there much) and residential building there doesn't seem to be up to codes. I live near Sanibel on the Caloosahatchee river. Nearly every day I see dolphin, manatee, eagles, pelicans, antenna's and a variety of herons. It is glorious! It is a fisherman's and boaters paradise.

This sounds like the life I want to live!

I don't mind the humidity or heat as I avoid going out in the day during the summer. A record high temperature would be in the mid-upper 90’s in the summer but the ocean breeze is always there near the water. You get six solid months with highs in the 80’s (spring and fall), three summer months in the 90’s and three winter months with highs in the lower 70’s most days... only a few days with highs in the 60’s or rarely in the 50’s.

High heat and humidity aren't on my mind either. Both my wife and I grew up in NE North Dakota 5 miles from the Canadian border and have lived in NE South Dakota now for 25 years. We have had our fill of the "4 seasons" (1 month of spring 3 months of summer 1 month of fall and 6 months of winter).

Hurricanes can buzz-saw the area in any given year and must be prepared for (check out websites) and insured against and built into your budget.

Hurricanes have been discussed . . . we realize they happen and plan to be prepared and insured.

Thanks for taking the time to supply use with all the info.

Have a happy Easter . . . He has risen!

The major commercial airport in the area is south of Ft. Myers and north of Bonita Springs. Naples also has a small airport on the east side of Naples bay, but its commercial service is limited to small prop jobs, with much seasonal traffic in corporate and private jets.

Even without access to an airport I think we will check out Naples. I'm not too scared of hot temps and high humidity . . . I'm going to be retired so if I don't have to go outside I won't.

My wife and I both grew up in NE North Dakota 5 miles from the Canadian border and have lived in NE SD for 25 years now so we have had enough of the "4 seasons".

    Thanks for the info!

I spent 7 months in Tucson last year and decide without a doubt that I will retire there

The dry heat really does make a difference

and it was beautiful there- I was outside every single day

Dont even worry about the heat

Thaks for the info but we spent a week in Mesa Arizona this winter just to check it out and we really didn’t think it was our type of country. Weather was great, but we don’t golf so we were kind of bored most of the time.

The Naples area in Collier County to the south is nicer in many ways, and with a noticeably lower crime rate than Ft. Myers/Lee County. Bonita Springs, which is in between Naples and Ft. Myers, also merits consideration.

We were looking for someplace with at least a regional airport in the area . . . what is the closest airport near Naples?

I am trying to tie up the loose ends of my "dead end" stories that I have collected over the past few years and I was wondering if any Freepers could help me out with some of them.

These stories follow a pattern . . . contrary to what happens when any conservative is caught in any wrongdoing, liberal leftist activism caught and charged with crime but then the story quietly dies with no more reporting.

I am wondering what ever happened to Safia Z. Jilani, who was indicted on felony charges of reporting a fake hate crime? After being indicted her story quietly vanishes. I've searched for hours but I cannot find out what the end result of the story was.

Her story was also reported on Free Republic: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2108645/posts

I have been an eBay member since Nov 1997. At first it was great . . . the main mission was to bring buyer/seller together for a small profit. Then "what's her name" with her Harvard business degree took over as CEO, the company went public, and totally changed eBay forever. It went from bringing buyer/seller together to making as much money as possible for the shareholders.

For the sellers there were fees upon fees upon fees added to every sale . . . and fees for items that do not sell (you really have to know what you are doing) And the ironic thing about it is the fact that the seller does all the work . . . eBay just sits in the background collecting their piece of the pie.

Every now and then I go on eBay to buy something (mostly used photo equipment) but I haven't sold anything on eBay for close to 7 years now. It's just not worth my trouble.

Isn't this interesting . . . the Commiecrats (I no longer refer to them as Democrats) use bribes and kickbacks as an excuse to vote for ObamaCare, wait to see what the politcal fallout will be, and then if the taxpayers voice too much outrage one of their comrades will remove the quid pro quo payment and claim "no harm / no foul".

Nice attempt at CYA but you can't "unring" a bell. The damage has already been done. The Commiecrats know this but still believe we Americans are that stupid.

If anything this taxpayer funded vote buying scheme should tech us one thing . . . this November a vote for a Democrat is a vote for Socilism and the death of America as we now know it!

The case of Matthew Shepard was more complicated than you think. I don't have the info in front of me but it seems the media got it wrong-again. It turns out that Matthew Shepard was a gay man who got himself on the wrong end of a drug deal. Not all that uncommon. That's why he was killed. He wasn't killed because he was gay. But by the time this was all sorted out, he had been anointed as a "saint" by the MSM. They never accurately reported this story. The general public still believes that Shepard was killed because he was gay.

Yes . . . back in 2004 ABC's 20/20 did and expose on this media hit piece : Matthew wasn't "gay" and "proud." He was profoundly troubled. You know there must be something happening when the New York Times praises ABC News for running "an intellectually brave episode" of the "20/20" show that has angered the homosexual lobby. That means the Times found it convincing, and so did we. In the November 27 show, "20/20" uncovered the truth about the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, widely depicted as a hate crime because he was a homosexual. Almost everything we were told about this murder at the time by ABC, the Times and every other major news organization was false. http://www.aim.org/media_monitor/2331_0_2_0_C

On the local radio station at the 6:00AM news break ABC News gave it's "spin" on the story by letting one "affected UC Berkley" student state (this is my recolection of the quote) "This country is being run by rich old white men who are determining who can and who can't attend college based on socio-economic circumstances."

A clear cut case of 1 How our public schools are prepping young minds in the Marxist mold before they even get to college 2 How ignorant these young people are as to the real reason why The People's Republic of Kaliforniastan is broke . . . because of years of liberal leftist give-aways 3 The blatent bias of ABC news to give their incredulous listeners only the "poor" student's side of the story.

Put another "W" in the won/loss column for the Tree Hugging Nuclear Hippies. Although it does not say for certain that the coal fired power plant will not be built, it does say that the lead partner and devloper Otter Tail Power is pulling out. This oomes on the heals of two coal fired power plants . . one in Arkansas and one in Utah I believe, that were in the exact same position and decided to pull the plug. And for the same reasons . . . uncertantiy of coming federal regulations and requirments.

Like I told everyone that asked me, this project died on November election day 2008 . . . thanks Obamabots. In the coming winters when it is 30 below zero and there isn't any wind to spin the turbines . . . you can either HOPE for warmer weather or CHANGE into artic survival gear.
