Today is Washington's Birthday. He is a president that deserves honors and accolades. A man who refused to be king. And helped birth the most amazing political experiment in history. While we are contending for our own liberty, we should be very cautious not to violate the rights of conscience in others, ever considering that God alone is the judge of the hearts of men, and to him only in this case they are answerable. GEORGE WASHINGTON, letter to Benedict Arnold, Sep. 14, 1775 Nothing is a greater stranger to my breast, or a sin that my soul more abhors,...

For the past 2¼ years, whenever my wife and I traveled, we made our house available for short-term rentals through Airbnb. We rented out the house to men and women of many races, religions, national origins, ethnicities, and ages. We made money; Airbnb made money; the city of Austin and the state of Texas made money (15 percent of our gross revenue). Airbnb even designated Susan a Superhost, which she well deserved: She had a five-star (out of five) rating from 37 groups of guests. The New York Times reported last month that “only 7 percent of hosts are Superhosts.”...

I want to have two backups. One for the office and one for home. The office backup is a little Toshiba, which does very well. For the home backup I bought a Passport Ultra. I hooked it up to the machine to back up, using its own utilities and after 24 hours it had backed up less than 5%. I talked on the phone with the nice man from India. He made a suggestion. Another 24 hours. 5%. I brought it to Staples techs. They decided that it was probably encrypting everything and that is why it is taking so...

They are some of the biggest names in the Republican national security firmament, veterans of past GOP administrations who say, if called upon by President-elect Donald Trump, they stand ready to serve their country again. But their phones aren’t ringing. Their entreaties to Trump Tower in New York have mostly gone unanswered. In Trump world, these establishment all-stars say they are “PNG” — personae non gratae. Their transgression was signing one or both of two public “Never Trump” letters during the campaign, declaring they would not vote for Trump and calling his candidacy a danger to the nation.

One guy has been away in the military for a long time and we were all happy to see him. His girlfriend and he were snippy with each other and over the evening their arguing became more intense. Donald Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton came as a shock to many — and for many women who opposed Trump in particular, Clinton’s loss was personally devastating. But in the days since the election, desperation and fear have swelled into a plan for action: a “Women’s March on Washington” on January 21, the day after Trump’s inauguration and the first full day of his administration. What started as a viral idea on social media has snowballed into a potentially massive event, with more than 100,000 people already saying on Facebook that they plan to attend. It has the potential to...

Looking back on a Chicago childhood in the 1940s I was at a pro-life meeting in Detroit in the late 1970s, with a biologist debunking the “population problem.” He pointed out that if everyone in the world moved to Texas, there would be 1,500 square feet for every man, woman, and child. That was the size of the footprint of his house in San Francisco. Texas, with that influx of population, would still be less dense than San Francisco; and San Francisco had many open places for parks and tennis courts. When it was my turn to speak, I remarked...

Noticing that the vitriol against conservatives and their leadership has biome entrenched and permissible. Lot of moral preening and leftist activities to continue to make conservatives fearful or embarrassed to support the causes they believe in, not because there is a problem with the ideas and causes, but because conservatives are fearful of physical harm or property damage. This needs to stop and conservatives need to seize the narrative, they way that Trump did throughout the pre-election cycle. For example Barney Frank ( and why is he still above ground with a microphone?) just claimed that Trump thought that Scalia...

The following is adapted from a speech delivered on July 11, 2016, at Hillsdale College’s Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C., as part of the AWC Family Foundation Lecture Series. In the Communist Manifesto, Marx and Engels wrote that “the history of all hitherto existing societies is the history of class struggles.” Today the story of American politics is the story of class struggles. It wasn’t supposed to be that way. We didn’t think we were divided into different classes. Neither did Marx. America was an exception to Marx’s theory of social progress....

Steyn has over the years, fought time and time again for freedom of speech, and freedom of thought. I respect him. I find him a highly ethical man in this world of dubious ethics. I watched him in the legal battles at McLean's magazine. I read his forward to Geert Wilders Book "Marked for Death" where he said that Wilders could not find anyone who would be associated with the book and would Mark mind writing...
