I think that some of our members were somewhere in Vietnam 50 plus years ago and couldn't imagine where they would be in this 21st century year of 2023, on Christmas Day. CCR - Run Through The Jungle (Vietnam footage) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3tvaSSJoyI
  • Choosing WhatsApp, Signal, or other for Neighborhood Watch

    01/18/2023 12:04:19 PM PST · by ansel12 · 28 replies
I formed a Neighborhood Watch group and now need a messaging app. The police rep. mentioned WhatsApp but supposedly some people are moving away from it to Signal. Not knowing anything about social media I need some advice, our group already has Facebook which I don't have, don't do, and can't even seem to get, and someone else handles that Facebook account and it isn't used much by them I'm told. My first instinct is to use Signal, but I'm really in the dark about these things and once I sign-up someone else will be doing the mass communications on...

  • The Massey brothers talk about their (Bristol) Palin project. Expect wholesome entertainment.

Anyone hoping for bad girl antics and wild nights in Hollywood from Bristol Palin’s new reality TV project with her “Dancing with the Stars” pal Kyle Massey and his brother Christopher are likely to be disappointed. The way the Masseys described the show backstage at the 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards made it sound closer to “Three’s Company,” but more wholesome (and, we’re guessing, not as funny). “Bristol’s coming down from Alaska to live with us in L.A.,” Kyle said backstage at the Daytime Emmy Awards. “It’s pretty much us living life in L.A and showing her how we circulate...
  • Palin and McConnell wage proxy battle in Kentucky Republican Senate primary

The Senate Republican primary in Kentucky has emerged as a proxy battle between two leaders of the factionalized Republican Party, Sarah Palin and Mitch McConnell. At stake is the direction of the Republican Party, which Republican leaders in Washington fear could turn off middle-of-the road voters if it lurches too far to the right. Since being tapped as the GOP’s vice-presidential nominee in 2008, Palin has emerged a leader of independent and social conservatives. McConnell (Ky.), the Senate Republican leader, has cemented his leadership of the party establishment in Washington over the past year by unifying Senate Republicans against President...
  • How Well Did Meg Whitman Know Van Jones?

A May 2009 video of California gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman praising Van Jones, which was posted by TWI yesterday, has inspired a parody video from the campaign of California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner. It touches all the bases, portraying Whitman as an out-of-touch elitist who hobnobs not just with a man who called Republicans “assholes,” but with Jimmy Carter. Michael Goldfarb has Whitman responding by saying she “did not do a background check of his past over dinner” and “it’s clear that he holds views that I entirely reject.” But that doesn’t even cover her comments in the original video....

A council has sacked three officers after it was revealed an Afghan family was living in a £1.2million home paid for by the taxpayer. Mother-of-seven Toorpakai Saiedi, 35, receives £170,000 a year in benefits - a staggering £150,000 of which is paid to a private landlord for the rent of their seven-bedroom house in West London. The detached property in Acton has two large reception rooms, two kitchens, a dining room and a 100ft garden. Ealing Council is picking up the £12,458 a month bill - which is nearly five times the rent for a similar property in the same...

Army disciplines sergeants in Jewish soldier case By CHRIS REINOLDS The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Sunday, October 05, 2008 The Atlanta Anti-Defamation League said Sunday it has intervened in the case of a Jewish soldier at Fort Benning who allegedly suffered religious discrimination. At the ADL’s request, Army Pvt. Michael Handman has been moved to another unit. League spokesman Bill Nigut said that in September, Handman wrote to his parents and complained that he had been discriminated against. Two drill sergeants were disciplined in connection with those incidents. Then, on Sept. 24, Handman was attacked and beaten by another soldier. He was...

Posted by Dirty Harry on Saturday, September 20th, 2008 Most every time you turn on MSNBC or CNN — or click on over to the likes of the Washington Post’s Howard Kurtz, Factcheck.org, and ABC’s Jake Tapper – they’re constantly proclaiming themselves the high and mighty arbiters of truth with their so-called “Truth Squads,” and I’m telling you this is the single most insidious thing going on in the campaign right now. Obviously they are taking hammer and tong to McCain with much more frequency than Obama, the result of which effectively undercuts both McCain’s legitimate criticisms of Obama and...
  • Polygamy? It's positively biblical

What is wrong with polygamy? Nineteenth-century Americans coupled it with slavery, calling both "the twin relics of barbarism." Today, it is used as a scare image to deter people from approving same-sex marriage, lest it lead down a slippery slope to that horror of horrors. But what, exactly, is bad about it? Looking at the Texas sect at the Yearning for Zion ranch, so much in the news, will not tell us, because that sect allegedly forced underage girls into marriage. The case then becomes one of child sexual abuse, a crime hardly unknown in the monogamous family, although it...

The April 3 police raid of a polygamist compound in West Texas, which has mushroomed into the largest child abuse investigation in the nation's history, has unnerved polygamists across the country and into Canada. There, authorities have long wanted to halt the rituals of plural marriages and underage sex in Bountiful, British Columbia. "Clearly, they know that the spotlight is on them," Wally Oppal, the province's attorney general, said of the approximately 3,000 residents of Bountiful, near the American border and the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Oppal said that for 25 years, law enforcement and justice officials in Canada...

In April, Texas authorities investigating a fundamentalist polygamist group after allegations of child abuse removed 464 children from a West Texas compound. The state now has the minors in temporary custody, including a young woman and the son she gave birth to after the raid. The case, remarkable for its scope, involves a complicated tangle of legal, religious and social issues. The group — called the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints — practices a brand of polygamy taught by the earliest leaders of the Mormon faith but officially abandoned by Mormons in 1890. The case brings...

"Headstrong in their two faiths, a Mormon and a Baptist squared off recently at the Tempe Institute of Religion at Arizona State University and spent 2 1/2 hours demonstrating they could aggressively question each other's religions but come away with deep respect and love for each other. Actually, some 55 times since 2001, the Rev. Gregory Johnson, founding pastor of Ogden Valley Baptist Church in Utah, and Robert Millet, dean emeritus of religious education at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, have held "A Conversation Between a Mormon and an Evangelical" in the U.S., Canada and England. 416 children from a US religious sect have been ordered by a Texan judge to undergo DNA tests. They will be held until the tests are completed to determine who their parents are. The authorities removed the children along with around 130 women after receiving reports that girls as young as 13 were forced to marry. The children are members of a breakaway polygamist sect of the Mormon Church called the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The group is one of the largest Mormon breakaway groups with nearly 10,000 members. It was formed in the 1930's...

The raid on a polygamist compound in Texas could signal the beginning of the end of a lifestyle that has flown under the radar in America, according to an expert on cults. The Fundamentalist Church of Latter-day Saints, which operates the compound near Eldorado, Texas, along with other communities around the country -- including Colorado City, Ariz. -- fits the classic criteria of a cult, according to Rick Ross. He says there are about 50,000 polygamists living in North America and Mexico. ``The level of harm done by polygamist groups is horrific, and, in particular, this group (FLDS) has a...

Prosecutors have new weapons against polygamy and marriage involving underage teens because Texas lawmakers heeded Utah authorities' experience with the Mormon splinter group raided in Eldorado. In 2001, Utah authorities began a crackdown on underage marriages and arranged marriages of teenagers, targeting members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a Mormon splinter group that had lived in two towns on the Utah-Arizona border. The allegations made national headlines -- young girls forced to marry older men, teenage boys ejected from the community to create a surplus of brides, and police officers who turned a blind eye...

ELDORADO, Texas - The secretive and insular community established near this West Texas town by a radical offshoot of the Mormon Church is considered by the sect's members to be a holy shrine populated by its most fervent adherents and is propped up financially by members of the group living in other states, according to law enforcement officials and former members. Interviews with law enforcement authorities and former members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints depict the Yearning for Zion Ranch, which was raided last week by Texas authorities, as an outpost whose adult residents...
