Well, everybody, I have entertaining news. My Yellow Lab Kate was bred to a very nice Yellow Lab male about 4 weeks ago. Pregnancy confirmed by ultrasound - vet says "at least 7" puppies. Expected whelping date is July 6. Patriotic Puppies on the way . . . This should be a very nice all Yellow litter. Father is 2xGRHRCH, MH and QAA, around 65 pounds and dark yellow. Mother lacks one pass for her HRCH, passed her first Master test easily and has her CGC. 55 pounds and very pale yellow, almost cream colored. Both parents have very calm...

This has to be read to be believed. A group of competitive trail riders, having just completed 75 and 50 mile endurance rides, were evicted from Talladega NF in the middle of the night. Exhausted horses and humans were forced to move trailers out of a pine grove in the dark under threat of fines and prosecutions. The local park rangers were sympathetic, but U.S. Marshals were brought in (no doubt at great expense) to ensure that the rangers caused as much pain as possible despite their personal sympathy. Coming soon to a government function near you . . ....

Took the jury just under two hours to reach a guilty verdict. Most of that time was probably spent electing a foreman and deciding what to have for lunch.
  • Nun Resigns as College Dean Over Voter Fraud

Cincinnati.com has reported that Sister Marguerite Kloos has resigned as dean of the College of Mount St. Joseph’s art and humanities department, after being charged with voting fraud. Sister Kloos, 54, told investigators that she filled out an absentee ballot for Sister Marie Hewitt, another nun who died a month before November’s election.

Hark all ye lovely saints above Just a little musical relaxation for a Friday afternoon. I heard this for the first time a couple of days ago and was enchanted. After the repeat of the first verse, Mr. Weelkes slides through a dissonance into a minor key, then dashes back to major and back to the dominant. Not only is it a musical tour-de-force, it's gorgeous. Enjoy!

Looks like I'm going to be going to Panama City FL on business and have to stay overnight. Unfortunately I won't get to go to the beach! :-( The closest hotel to where I'm going looks to be the Wingate in Lynn Haven. It seems to have good reviews on line. Is this a decent part of town for a woman alone? Inquiring minds would like to know. Thanks!

Fast succumbing to FN-FAL envy . . . but the Belgian FNs have priced themselves out of reach since hubby bought his 30 years ago. I'm looking for a sturdy, accurate, reliable auto loader in .308 Win. (We have never owned a rifle in .223, hubby hated the M16 not just because they took away his M14 but also because the early ones had lots of problems. I have never been bothered by recoil, my deer gun is a Ruger M77 in .308. Besides, .223 would mean another set of dies . . ) I've looked at an FNAR, also...

Just when you think Wikipedia might have cleaned up its act, they confirm their essentially agenda-driven, truth-challenged agenda. Look at the former entry on "blood libel" via the WayBack Machine link posted above -- then go check out Wikipedia's current entry. These people are absolutely shameless.

Sagamore Hills Elementary is a small DeKalb County school, just outside the city limits of Decatur. While it is a public school, it's an old fashioned neighborhood school with a very active PTA. (Full disclosure: a good friend's kids attend this school.) The Children's Museum of Atlanta and Georgia Natural Gas are sponsoring a video contest for local elementary schools. The best video will win $2500 to go towards purchasing musical instruments for the school. Sagamore Hills is one of three finalists. The other two schools are very large schools in North Fulton, so they have a lot more talent...

Just got a telephone call from a good friend. Her Yellow Labrador Retriever, Woody, is at the vet with a blockage. They are trying to shift it without surgery, but if things haven't moved by tomorrow morning they will have to go in. Woody is a big ol' boy and absolutely the sweetest dog you will ever meet. He is also a great hunting retriever and my friend's best pal. And he is the father of my little yellow dog Katy. Please everybody pray that we have a good outcome here -- that they can move the blockage without surgery...

OK, I got an iPhone back in November, and have slowly learned how to use it. I sync it periodically via iTunes on my computer, as instructed. Well, lo and behold, at some point it deleted all my calendar entries for 2009. I do not know how this happened, but assume it occurred while syncing it. Anybody got any ideas as to how this happened? It annoys me because I do refer back to calendar entries in the past.

Excellent news today from my husband's 3-month check on his chronic lympocytic leukemia. His "bad" white blood cell count has increased only slightly in three months. This means two things: 1. the disease is in the early stages; and 2. it does not appear to be the more rapid form of CLL. Thank you ALL for your prayers, good wishes, and support since this ordeal began back in July. FReepers are great prayer warriors!

I ask everyone's prayers for my dear husband, Rick. He found a lump in his neck while shaving, the doctor ordered a CT scan and says it's most likely lymphoma. He had a surgical biopsy on Thursday, we are waiting for the results now. Please pray that the biopsy results are favorable -- either some non-malignant disease process, or Hodgkins or some other easily treatable form of lymphoma. We hardly dare to pray that the preliminary diagnosis will be wrong, but we will.

Please say a prayer if you will for my husband's great-aunt, his mother's only sister. She died last night, rather suddenly. She was in her late '80s, had never married and took care of their parents until they died. She was the quintessential old-fashioned Irish Catholic lady, devoted to her local church and to her extended family. She was absolutely thrilled when husband and I converted to the Church, I'm sure she had been praying for us for years. My husband and his brother are driving up to help my mother in law, who is a great lady but she...

Fr. Richard John Neuhaus slipped away today, January 8, shortly before 10 o’clock, at the age of seventy-two. He never recovered from the weakness that sent him to the hospital the day after Christmas, caused by a series of side effects from the cancer he was suffering. He lost consciousness Tuesday evening after a collapse in his heart rate, and the next day, in the company of friends, he died.

The money quote: "According to the principles of Faithful Citizenship, Catholics must support the just care of the poor, the rights of workers, the dignity of people who immigrate to a new nation, the conservation of the environment; we must assess the very complex economic issues, seek to provide affordable health care for people who do not enjoy that security, and foster the more humane treatment of those who are imprisoned, to list only some of the issues that we now face. However, before and prior to all of those vitally important concerns, Faithful Citizenship places the issue of Life...

Okay, guys, I wasn't sure what to do with this or where to post it, but I just had to share it. "KICK-OFF"!?!?!?!? What WERE these folks thinking? And I'm afraid to ask what you DO at a funeral home's Family Fun Day? The name of the place alone is a little scary.
