Although there are no plans to raise the threat level from yellow to orange, a senior Justice Department official says, "there's very serious intelligence that's corroborated, that's multiple sourced, that indicates that al-Qaeda is intent on hitting us and hitting us hard this year." WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The FBI has received more than 2,000 tips from the public in the 24 hours after a news conference asking for help in locating seven people Attorney General John Ashcroft called al Qaeda operatives. "Many thanks for your help on locating those pictured below," the FBI Web site said Thursday. "Over 2,000 tips were sent by mid-afternoon today on tips.fbi.gov alone. Please keep them coming." Two men wanted in connection with a FBI’s terrorism investigation may have been seen in Naples, Maine — about 30 miles from Conway, N.H. The Federal Bureau of Investigation issued an alert Thursday that said a witness saw two men Sunday who fit the description of Adnan G. El Shukrijumah, 27, and Abderraouf Jdey, 38, two men they are seeking for questioning. The men were reportedly headed south on Route 302 at around 4 p.m. in a newer model, slate gray BMW sedan with Massachusetts license plates.
