In 1976, 16-year-old model Babi Christina Engelhardt embarked on a hidden eight-year affair with the 41–year-old filmmaker that mirrors one of his most famous movies. Now, amid the #MeToo reckoning and Allen’s personal scandals, she looks back with mixed emotions on their relationship and its unequal dynamic. Sixteen, emerald-eyed, blond, an aspiring model with a confident streak and a painful past: Babi Christina Engelhardt had just caught Woody Allen's gaze at legendary New York City power restaurant Elaine's. It was October 1976, and when Engelhardt returned from the ladies' room, she dropped a note on his table with her phone...

A Michigan man employed at the Hillsdale Bob Evans plant was fired after refusing to remove a Confederate flag from his truck, the Hillsdale Daily News reports. According to the man, his bosses at the plant forced him to remove it after receiving a single anonymous complaint. Angela Payne, a spokeswoman for the restaurant chain, told NBC24 that the flag was “offensive to many… customers and employees.” The employee, Wesley Rogers, was told two weeks ago to remove the flag but refused, resulting in his termination. “They said they were doing their best to follow up on a complaint,” Rogers...

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – A lawsuit is blaming a restaurant's bad meatloaf for the deaths of a former West Virginia state lawmaker and her husband. Former Delegate Virginia Starcher's family filed the lawsuit last month against New Albany, Ohio-based Bob Evans Farms in Jackson County Circuit Court. Bob Evans spokeswoman Hinda Mitchell said Friday the chain will vigorously defend itself in the matter. Starcher and her husband, Harold, ate part of their meatloaf meals from a Bob Evans in Ripley in October 2012. Their takeout dishes included meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, broccoli and a roll, the lawsuit says.

Mississippi District 91 House of Representatives candidate Cindy Bryan has been waging a strong campaign against Democrat Bob Evans—but few observers expected the results of a recent independent poll. Conducted September 20 through 26, the poll of likely voters found that Bryan, a fiscally conservative Republican focused on job growth, leads the incumbent Evans by 9.4 percentage points, more than twice the margin of error. Thirty-five percent of the voters polled in a representative sample of the district favored Bryan, while 25.6% favored Bob Evans. Since the lead is greater than twice the poll’s 4 point margin of error, Bryan’s...

District 91 House of Representatives candidate Cindy Bryan is committed to bringing jobs to Mississippi and to her district—something her opponent, Democrat Bob Evans, has neglected to do. Now Bryan’s campaign is gaining momentum rapidly, particularly since a leading industry advocate gave her a resounding endorsement. The Mississippi Manufacturers Association Political Action Committee (MMA PAC) recognized Bryan’s commitment to business and jobs. When she served as mayor of New Hebron, Bryan demonstrated her ability to obtain significant resources to improve the local economy. The MMA PAC endorsement follows on the heels of another critical endorsement—by the Associated Contractors of Mississippi,...

Bob Evans, whose quest for quality sausage to serve the truckers who filled his 12-stool, 24-hour-a-day steakhouse in southeast Ohio led to the creation of a restaurant chain that bears his name, died Thursday, Bob Evans Farms Inc. said. He was 89. Evans died at the Cleveland Clinic about 12:30 p.m., Evans' family told the company. Bob Evans Farms Inc. said last week that he was being treated at the hospital for pneumonia. Evans complained that he could not get good sausage for the restaurant that he started after World War II in Gallipolis in southeast Ohio. Starting with $1,000,...
