Joel Simon of the Committee to Protect Journalists rightly says that bloggers are in the vanguard of the information revolution we're going through thanks to the Internet. The impact on things like political freedom and social tolerance is hard to measure, but it's safe to say that whether through websites, blogs, emails, Facebook or Twitter, more people are transmitting information and venting views than ever before. Authoritarian regimes have been unable to stop the march of media freedom, but they continue to try. And bloggers are in the crosshairs--sometimes literally. CPJ has just come out with a report called "The...

You know my feelings about Sarah Palin. I was all for her at the beginning of her run as John McCain's VP pick. But then, I discovered what an utter ignoramus, lightweight, and ideologically spineless person she was (she ain't the conservative people claim she is, and she just hasn't a clue on most of it). On top of that, we all discovered how this absentee parent put her blind ambitions way ahead of her own family and now has a baby mama daughter to show for it, not to mention a baby daddy who argues back and forth with...

Maybe worse than the first Camaro wreck is the first Chevy Camaro breakdown. This "p**sy magnet" Bumblebee-yellow Camaro lost all electrical power and coasted to a stop with a scant 40 miles on the odometer. The ecstatic new owner, a forum fan-girl by the name of BUMLB, was crushed when the car conked-out cruising through a parking lot at a leisurely 5 MPH, completely losing all electrical power, locking the gear selector and the key in the ignition. A flatbed towed the disabled car to a dealer where diagnosis found the cable running from the trunk mounted battery had frayed...

On March 28, Hamoud Bin Saleh, a Saudi Christian arrested in January for writing about his conversion from Islam and criticizing the Saudi kingdom's crackdown on individual rights, was released from prison, according to Compass Direct News. Hamoud is reportedly forbidden to travel outside the country or appear in the media. In a recent post on his blog, Hamoud attributed his release to several human rights groups that campaigned on his behalf. "A nation which lives in this system cannot guarantee the safety of its individuals," he blogged, according to Compass Direct. In Saudi Arabia the penalty for converting from...

From homeless to cause celebre, things are happening fast for the Central Florida singer-songwriter ever since he debuted his now famous “The American Tea Party Anthem” at Orlando’s Tea Party three weeks ago. Self-described Black American Conservative Lloyd Marcus was feted last Friday night before the Santa Barbara Tea Party by famed songwriter Tom Snow at Snow’s fabulous Montecito mansion overlooking the valley and Pacific Ocean beyond.

Humor me a minute. I have a disturbing story about my web Site and Blog. I publish a web site with advice for buying a puppy. It contains information about dealing with breeders and avoiding pet stores and puppy mills. It also contains some dog news (remember this for later) and training tips. My Blog has similar articles and is heavily cross linked with my web site.I recently added Google AdSense to generate a few pennies of revenue here and there. The Blog and Main Site have very similar levels of traffic, but the Blog is the only place earning...

The Saudi Arabian newspaper al-Watan reported today that Turkish security services have arrested a man of Syrian origins Friday in connection with a plot to assassinate President Barack Obama during his current visit to Turkey. The man, who was carrying an Al-Jazeera TV ID card in the name of M.G., confessed after his arrest that he was planning on stabbing the U.S. president with a knife during the Alliance of Civilizations summit held in Istanbul, adding that he had three other accomplices to help him execute his plan. According to the paper, Turkish investigators were trying to verify whether the...

Victor Davis Hanson asks why so many Americans are depressed. Suggesting five themes that might provide an answer, he thinks it might be more than the economy that explains our state of mind. I agree, but none of Dr. Hanson's themes accounts for my despair. I feel utterly powerless to do anything about the fellow in the Oval Office who combines infantile leftism and adolescent grandiosity in roughly equal measures. It seems to me that every day he is responsible for assaults on the freedom and well being of the American people. I can't keep up and I can't stand...

Frank Rich says this might be Pres. Obama’s Katrina moment. That would make Tim Geithner PBO’s Mike Brown. Which in turn might make some people’s blood run cold to hear the president say of Geithner, during his 60 Minutes interview broadcast this evening, that: “he is doing a terrific job.” [snip] Whereas in the case of Katrina, Mayor Nagin and Governor Blanco bore much of the blame, in this case it is Geithner alone who apparently pushed to make the AIG bonuses, the ones that PBO has called an "outrage," legal. That's what the president calls a "terrific job"? View...

There is a new brand of Orwellian brainwashing or thought reform emerging on Internet chat room websites whose apparent purpose is the use of subtle coercive techniques to change the beliefs of one or more people for political purposes in the religious culture wars but couched as some sort of religious confession or catharsis. Think of the adroit blending of George Orwell's Double Think, social psychologist Solomon Asch's conformity experiments, the manipulative Delphi Technique, and the use of religious confession all rolled into one. Let's call it the New Blog-Think, Wiki-Think, or Religious Lib-Think. Recently, a minister at a Christian...

SarahPAC today sent out the following e-mail update: As Washington, D.C. partisans continue to fight and bicker over "politics as usual," Governor Sarah Palin is working every day to reform government in Alaska and fight for the conservative values we all cherish. It's been a busy few weeks for Governor Palin. Like many Americans, the Governor is praying for the many families in Alaska that are struggling in a difficult economy. Not content with waiting for the federal government to sort through the mess, Governor Palin is working each day to restore Alaska's economy and put people back to work....

Warsaw Ghetto. Darfur. Katrina. Some people call it the sky falling, SHTF, or in the words of the President, Catastrophe. I call it the worst case scenario. Since the November 4th mistake, The Dow is down 2000 points. Even more since the 2006 elections put the Socialists in charge of the economy. Reasonable people are now alarmed into buying guns for the first time in their life, with a president telling them catastrophe is possible.

I have a new website and blog and that I think readers of FreeRepublic might be interested in. It’s called GlobalVillageIdiot.org.For more than a decade I made my living as a Hollywood screenwriter, until I wrote a politically incorrect screenplay called Global Village Idiot -- a pro-American, anti-environmentalist comedy feature film -- that got me kicked out of Hollywood. After I spent many years in exile away from the movie business, the script won first prize in a contest that was looking for scripts that celebrated traditional American values. Now I’ve created a website to sell the screenplay. You can...

You may not have heard much about it, but there's a quiet movement afoot to reassert state sovereignty in America and stop the uncontrolled expansion of federal government power. Almost half of the state legislatures are considering or have representatives preparing to introduce resolutions which reassert the principles of the 9th and 10th Amendments to the Constitution and the idea that federal power is strictly limited to specific areas detailed in the Constitution and that all other governmental authority rests with the states. -excerpt- There's a lot of excitement about these bills, but there are also a lot of misconceptions,...

Yes, Islamic law really does forbid conversion. Let's just hope Saudi blogger Hamoud Bin Saleh doesn't receive Muhammad's preferred punishment for apostates: beheading. Arresting converts and critics is exactly what you'd expect from our "partners" in the War on Terror, isn't it? But would you expect Google's blogspot platform to go along with Saudi Arabia's request to ban Saleh's website? You. Bet.

Limbaugh Responds to Obama [Byron York] According to an account in the New York Post, President Barack Obama yesterday told Republican leaders, "You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done." With George W. Bush now off the stage, it may be that Obama and some of his fellow Democrats view Limbaugh, and not John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, or any other elected official, as the true leader of the Republican opposition. This morning I asked Rush for his thoughts...

This was posted a day or two ago and is a reminder that we need to freep this poll to keep Andrew Sullivan, the jackass who runs the Daily Dish blog that started the Trig is not Sarah's child BS, from being rewarded with any kind of award for reporting such garbage. As perhaps one of the vilest pieces of dog excrement in the country, the admitted Marxist, terrorist Bill Ayers will be spared no insult and will receive no quarter, no mercy, no forgiveness from anybody here. The Huffington Post should be ashamed of itself for giving a platform to a man who bombed a judge's house while children slept inside, bombed the Capitol, and bombed the Pentagon. Of course, the dilemma is whether to discuss or link to the piece at all, thereby rewarding HuffPo for its bold P.R. move and giving Ayers a greater audience for his Commie dogma,...

I’m not sure whether it’s the 4:30pm timing or the fact that Rahm Emanuel is in Africa that’s my favorite part of the Obama team’s Blago internal review “drop and run” scenario. Really, as others note, the MSM is so placid the Obama team probably could have gotten away with releasing it outside the holiday rush and even answering some questions. But this approach only adds to the “transparency in name only” phenomenon and will irritate a few of the more conscientious reporters. (We note that we already have gone from “no” contacts to “no inappropriate contacts with Blago” with...

I knew that there was something odd going on, when I woke up at 7am on Tuesday and found that over 200 e-mails had arrived in the seven hours that I had been in bed. It turned out that my article on world government had been “Drudged” - ie put on the much-read Drudge Report and this had set off a torrent of e-mail traffic. The pace of comments - and their vituperative tone - persuaded the blog-masters here to shut down the comments section on that article pretty quickly. But this had the unfortunate effect of encouraging people to...

Evidence Suggests Somebody on Team Obama Knew What Blago Was Doing... Obama defenders will no doubt argue that Obama has no connection to the Blagojevich scandal, citing the FBI and U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald's emphasis in yesterday's press conference that the President-Elect is not implicated in this scandal. But that's what makes yesterday's "it would be inappropriate to comment" stonewalling from Obama so bizarre. He said nothing beyond that it was a "sad day." There was no glimpse of anger at the governor, no sense of betrayal in the tone of his words. He spoke as if Blagojevich had been...

In 2006, Thailand announced it was blocking access to YouTube for anyone with a Thai I.P address, and then identified 20 offensive videos for Google to remove as a condition of unblocking the site. ‘If your whole game is to increase market share,’ says Lawrence Lessig, speaking of Google, ‘it’s hard to . . . gather data in ways that don’t raise privacy concerns or in ways that might help repressive governments to block controversial content.’ In March of last year, Nicole Wong, the deputy general counsel of Google, was notified that there had been a precipitous drop in activity...

The four-year ascent of Barack Obama from state senator to president marks not just the triumph of a man, but the coming of age of a movement. That movement belongs to liberal (or “progressive”) Democrats, who in less than a decade have remade themselves. Once respected only in academia and the news media, they have become a fighting force. They systemically digitized the means of political organization and strategy, with the ultimate goal of dominating the political system — “Crush their spirits!” was Daily Kos blogger Markos Moulitsas Zuniga’s pre-election rallying cry. The Left’s online movement is consciously modeled after...

Top Obama Bundler Hobnobs With Iranian Regime in Tehran (Updated) These three stooges would be arrested on site in Iran if they went out in public with their hair showing or if they wore tight fitting clothes. But, they could care less how the women in Iran are really treated. They are not there to support the women-- They are there to support the regime. I never do this sort of thing...but I would really appreciate y'all's help here. Do you hate the hive mentality of DailyKos? Would you like to make them squirm? Do you like baseball? Would you like to reward smart, non-partisan analysis that has influenced the way we all now approach baseball? One of the greatest baseball bloggers in America, David Cameron of U.S.S. Mariner, is up for this online scholarship award. The people who run it, in their infinite wisdom, have made the contest an INTERNET POLL: the winner gets $10,000 to pay off their educational debts. Cameron was the...

ACORN embezzler Dale Rathke (shown at left) enjoys the good life at the 18th Annual New Orleans Film Festival in 2007. Photo: www.newyorksocialdiary.com* * * * *We found a fun little photo (above) of Dale Rathke out on the two in New Orleans last year while his brother, ACORN founder Wade Rathke and senior ACORN officials such as national president Maude Hurd were busy covering up the close to $1 million that Dale stole from ACORN. Earlier this year the story about Dale stealing money from ACORN broke. He embezzled the money from ACORN in 2000 and the coverup lasted...

(Regarding Obama's alleged affair and removal of his FINANCE DIRECTOR being sent to Martinique one year ago - is there a money laundering scheme going on?) It also seems like a pretty good place for someone, oh, we don’t know who, to set up a multi-million dollar money laundering operation. In a Grisham novel, a young campaign Finance Director for a campaign heavily steeped in fraud would leave the States for someplace like Martinique, where she could set up an elaborate operation to channel foreign campaign contributions in the hundreds of millions into a money laundering operation that could conceiveably...

Having reached the point where I was going to uncrown Queen2, she finally got her s*** together and contributed to the “We” in WWAQ. You can find her contributions scattered throughout the entries. I do have to figure out some way to organize this better, so you don’t have to go back and search through for updates. Cleverly, though, when she was late for our movie date last night, she blamed it on me, for getting her lost in blogging. As though the second Queen ever needed an excuse for being late. At Q1 Palace, we have something called “The...

Rather stark for a US Senator who can afford a family compound, who has one son who has been enriched by having a Senator as a father, and by having the drop-dead gorgeous wife who happens to be a Doctor. This miserly amount is all he can give as charity? Despite income ranging from $210,432 - $321,379 over the ten-year period, the Bidens have given only $120 - $995 per year to charity, which amounts to 0.06% - 0.31% of their income. Don't so many on the left denigrate Americans as being cheap? Well, at least one Senator seems to...

At Dennis Prager's blog, here on the Townhall website, under the entry, "Steinem: Palin Not A Real Woman" is a thread that, for me, perfectly illustrates how many people on the left conduct themselves when called to debate a given issue. Emotion takes the place of reason, feelings substitue for wisdom. Responding to an article by Gloria Steinem on his Thursday broadcast, Dennis Prager argued that the reason Steinem-bred feminists do not support Governor Sarah Palin is because she is a conservative. By any measure of accomplishment, Prager reasoned, Sarah Palin should be the aspiration of young feminists everywhere, but...

Environmentalism needs good villains. Rather than rely on the public’s ability to blame its own high-consuming tendencies, it’s nice if we can let them point to somsebody who’s trying to kill us all. Sarah Palin is just the thing. Sarah Palin I mean, look at her. That is the smile of the demonically possessed. More substantively, she is typical of Alaskan Republicans in that she’s a staunch ally of big oil. She supports drilling in ANWR, and generally comes down in favor of letting energy companies run pipelines wherever they want. They in turn have contributed generously to her campaigns....

In a sane world, Crystal Mangum's forthcoming memoir would contain just two words: "I'm sorry." Last Friday morning, I opened an email that contained a press release for a forthcoming book titled The Last Dance for Grace: The Crystal Mangum Story. Thinking it was an Internet hoax, I googled “Crystal Mangum” and found the story on WRAL.com. Sure enough, the infamous former stripper and prostitute, who falsely accused three Duke University lacrosse players of gang-raping and beating her in a bathroom, was writing her memoirs:....

It turns out that Joseph Biden is the poorest member of the Senate, is 65 years old and likely has a huge negative net-worth. His net-worth is listed as From $-302,980 to $277,997 by OpenSecrets.org. He keeps dozens of lines of credit, a new one opened every couple of years and together they add up to huge sums for a guy who has had a better paying job than most for basically his entire adult life.
