Detroit's (predominantly black) public schools are the worst in the nation and it takes some doing to be worse than Washington, D.C. Only 3 percent of Detroit's fourth-graders scored proficient on the most recent National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) test, sometimes called "The Nation's Report Card." Twenty-eight percent scored basic and 69 percent below basic. "Below basic" is the NAEP category when students are unable to demonstrate even partial mastery of knowledge and skills fundamental for proficient work at their grade level. It's the same story for Detroit's eighth-graders. Four percent scored proficient, 18 percent basic and 77 percent...

In the battle against black unemployment, places like the Opportunities Industrialization Center are ground zero. Savory aromas wafted from a king-size kitchen one recent day as the instructor demonstrated a fish recipe to a dozen aspiring cooks. Nearby, a mock hotel room was waiting to be cleaned. Downstairs, electrical fixtures hung from an exposed wall, ready to be wired. Here, the goal is "helping people help themselves" through literacy programs and training for hotel, clerical, building, retail and other jobs.

Obama Defends Self Against Black Critics WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama on Monday rebutted critics who say he isn't showing enough compassion toward black America, citing his health care effort as one example he says "will be hugely important" for blacks. Obama said another example is the billions of dollars in aid to states included in the economic stimulus bill, money that was used to save thousands of teachers, firefighters and police officers from losing their jobs. He said many of those workers are black. "So this notion, somehow, that because there wasn't a transformation overnight that we've been neglectful...

The Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund said yesterday that it would file a federal civil rights complaint accusing the Philadelphia School District of failing to address violence against Asian immigrant students at South Philadelphia High School. The complaint will claim that the district violated the students' right to equal protection under the 14th Amendment, said Cecilia Chen, a staff attorney with the organization. Chen said the complaint would be filed with the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division. The news came on a day when the city schools chief and South Philadelphia High principal spoke out publicly...

Several dozen Asian students say they don't feel safe at South Philadelphia High School, after several fights here last week where Asian students said they were targeted by African-American students. Senior Duong Ly (right) says the racial tensions at his school are real: "Even if the Asian students and the African-American students study together, they still don't like us. Because why? Because we are Asian." Senior Amina Velasquez saw the fights: "They just were jumping people who were Asian. And it was really horrible because a girl who was close to everyone, they just turned on her and jumped her."...

30 Asian students are South Philadelphia High School are refusing to return to the classroom after they were assaulted by a group of Black students no more than one week ago. Some of the students involved in the attack have faced the wrath of America's school system and have since been sent to public institutions that specialize in alternative educational methods, yet, that is not enough for these teens. More than 50 students are actively protesting the Philadelphia school district by boycotting all classes and social events hosted by the educational system, a move made because they felt that their...

According to allies of President Obama, all opposition to Obama's policies is driven by racism. "We think all of it is!" shouts Gwen Dawkins, a Democratic "activist" from Michigan. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Texas) explains that "As far as African-Americans are concerned, we think most of it is." Rep. Mike Honda (D-Calif.) agrees, stating that "There's a very angry, small group of folks that just didn't like the fact that Barack Obama won the presidency. With some, I think it is [about race]." As Jimmy Carter famously stated, "I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward...

Black Gangs Vented Hatred For Whites In Downtown Attacks'I Hate You F---ing White People,' Woman Shouts At Victim Black gangs roaming downtown Denver often vented their hatred for white victims before assaulting and robbing them during a four-month crime wave, according to interviews and court records obtained by 7NEWS. Over 450 people have died from the strain and nearly 2 million people have been infected: FTO: The new statistics and numbers show that 41 659 people got infected since the day before yesterday. That means that almost 100 000 people got infected in two days. Today's statistics are not there yet but looking at what happened from the 2nd to the 3rd we see that 452 people have now died in the Ukraine because of this plague / H1N1 spreading there. Black power has arrived — with some new challengesAP Wire Friday, December 4, 2009 WASHINGTON (AP) — Ten months after Democrats took over the Capitol and the first African-American president moved into the White House, black lawmakers are in control of some of the most powerful positions in Congress — and face new challenges to using their long-sought influence. There have been some victories — guaranteeing that stimulus money reaches the poorest parts of the country, expanding hate crimes legislation and moving to close health care disparities. But “in some ways, our strategies haven’t caught up with our own power,”...

We all know the economic planners want us to go right back to where we were, going in debt to buy things to make the economy look better for the next election. That's why they are keeping interest rates artificially low to get more and more people to borrow at low interest things they really couldn't afford at market interest rates. If you can't buy it with cash don't buy it. Also conservatives should live within their means. Your kids will be better off not having some consumer products now if we can get some more people that will preserve...

Let me start by saying I think that placing a large emphasis on the color of one's skin is dumb, just stupid. I'd like to think I am more than the pale epidermis I'm covered with. People are people, we all have differences, but we have way more in common. Also, I'm not discounting the significance of the first President to have black heritage. In fact, even though I don't like the man, I think that it is fantastic that our country has come this far since the civil rights movement. If only such a milestone could have been reached...

The unemployment rate is advertised at a concerning 10.2%, but more honest assessments are pegging the number at closer to 17.5%. What the media isn't telling you is that the unemployment rate for young black Americans is closer to a shocking 35%. It seems that destroying the black middle class is one war Obama is totally OK with.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson on Wednesday night criticized Rep. Artur Davis (D-Ala.) for voting against the Democrats’ signature healthcare bill. “We even have blacks voting against the healthcare bill,” Jackson said at a reception Wednesday night. “You can’t vote against healthcare and call yourself a black man.” Davis, who is running for governor, is the only black member of Congress from Alabama. He is also the only member of the CBC to have voted against the healthcare bill earlier this month. Davis referred to Jackson’s 1988 run for president in a statement, issued through his office, that said he would...

The mysterious Ukrainian mutant flu we reported on earlier is now in full swing as eastern Europe buckles down for its potential spread into neighboring countries. Over 1.4 million people are now infected. 12 people have died in the past 24 hours even. Ria: The death toll from the flu epidemic in Ukraine has reached 328, with 12 deaths registered over the past 24 hours, the health ministry said on Wednesday. Last week, Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) chief, Raisa Bohatyryova, said there were "constitutional prerequisites" for a state of emergency amid the flu epidemic, which has left...

I'm a proud White-Irish-American and I'd like to celebrate my unique culture and heritage. Though I personally had no part in it, my white European ancestors were the ones who founded the greatest country the world has ever known. For all of you progressives out there, I'm referring to America. Yup. My white ancestors founded and conquered it. Just like countries, states and tribes have been doing since time immemorial. My white European ancestors then established a framework (hint: the Constitution) that allowed immigrants from all over the world a place where they could be free of tyrannical dictators...

When we hear Reverend Jeremiah Wright say “G-d damn American!” or listen to Van Jones demand we “give [Native Americans] the wealth,” we shake our heads and wonder how men could live in a free country and wish it less free. When I reflect on how my black father’s initiative, intelligence, and unflinching work ethic lifted our family out of a deteriorating Detroit suburb into a brighter future, I marvel at memories of him nevertheless lecturing me about “the white man” and my inherent racial disadvantage. When I speak to black friends or acquaintances, the vast majority are instinctively “progressive”...

Glenn Beck is not exactly the most beloved figure in the US media. Of course, there are not unjustified reasons for that. Even for those who ultimately agree with him, he comes off as completely eccentric and a little bit too prone to conspiracy theories. However, there is an advantage to being a bit on the edge and even over the edge. One can challenge the mainstream, "official" opinions of those who seek to regulate public opinion. One of the most widespread myths in media is that black conservatives are an oxymoron or simply don't exist. But the most despicable...

Don't know if this was posted already..if so sorry. Please know: I am Black; I grew up in the segregated South. I did not vote for Barack Obama; I wrote in Ron Paul’s name as my choice for president. Most importantly, I am not race conscious. I do not require a Black president to know that I am a person of worth, and that life is worth living. I do not require a Black president to love the ideal of America . I cannot join you in your celebration. I feel no elation. There is no smile on my face....

Black Lawmakers under Ethics SpotlightWashington AFRO Zenitha Prince Posted: Nov 09, 2009 November 8, 2009) - Are seven investigations too many to be a coincidence? All seven of the full-scale ethics investigations currently underway in the U.S. House of Representatives are focused on African-American lawmakers—and it would be eight if the committee conducting the investigations hadn’t deferred to the Justice Department’s investigation involving Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. The disparity is beginning to raise some eyebrows. “I don’t think they (Black lawmakers) are scared—they’re upset. They think [Congressional Black Caucus] members are being singled out,” Rep. Elijah Cummings, former chairman of...

The Christian-Newsom killings are the most shocking racist murders in the early 21st Century America that were ignored by the Leftard Media. Can you imagine the headlines if the two young people were black instead of white and the murderers/rapists/torturers white instead of black? The silence of the African-American community to this Hate Crime indicates tacit approval for the killing of two beautiful and innocent young people in love. I say it is the black community in America that has a problem with racism. Yesterday the KKK lynched innocent blacks; today the KLAN WITH THE TAN murders innocent whites.

The issue at hand was a proposal last November to switch Kinston to a nonpartisan voting system for local elections. About 65 percent of Kinston's 15,000 registered voters are black, meaning that blacks are registered at a higher proportion than their voting-age population of 59 percent. In last November's elections, more than 11,000 of those 15,000 voted, with blacks voting in greater numbers than whites. By a nearly 2 to 1 margin, Kinston voted to eliminate party affiliations from local candidates' names on election ballots. The switch to nonpartisanship won a majority in seven of the city's nine black-majority voting...

When MTV first appeared, back in 1981, like many other American young adults, I watched it with interest because it showcased videos of many of the bands that were popular then: The Police, Duran Duran, Squeeze, Genesis, The Go-Gos, Hall & Oats, Blondie, etc. But after the initial novelty of 24-7 music videos wore off and it became apparent that MTV was lurching steadily toward a darker, more erotic, and increasingly decadent format, I tuned out for good. The rapid transmogrification of MTV from a purveyor of meaningless, if at times mildly entertaining, videos of pop rock bands, to full-on,...

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — An organization that tracks hate-group activity in the U.S. is accusing Vanderbilt University professor Carol Swain, a black scholar known for her conservative stances on race and immigration, of being an apologist for white supremacists. The incident started last week when the Alabama-based Southern Poverty Law Center posted a blog item critiquing the documentary A Conversation About Race, mentioning that positive comments by Swain lent the film an air of legitimacy. The "Homecoming Queen" at a traditionally black US university has sent a letter to President Barack Obama, complaining that her win had been questioned on campus because she is white. "It would be much easier to say that possibly some were not accepting of the news because I wasn't the most qualified contestant; however, the true reason for the disapproval was because of the color of my skin. I am not African American," the nursing student wrote to the president. She asked the president for help, suggesting that he visit Hampton University to convince students to "stop focusing so much...

An electromagnetic "black holeMovie Camera" that sucks in surrounding light has been built for the first time. The device, which works at microwave frequencies, may soon be extended to trap visible light, leading to an entirely new way of harvesting solar energy to generate electricity. A theoretical design for a table-top black hole to trap light was proposed in a paper published earlier this year by Evgenii Narimanov and Alexander Kildishev of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. Their idea was to mimic the properties of a cosmological black hole, whose intense gravity bends the surrounding space-time, causing any nearby...

...Say what you will about the roughly 150 black action, horror and comedy films that came out between 1971 and 1976, the height of the blaxploitation era: that they were cheaply made, poorly acted, hyper-violent and glorified pimps, prostitutes, criminals and con men -- all those things are true, to a certain extent. But they were also utterly empowering, gobbled up by African American audiences desperate for strong, and recognizable, working-class heroes... Howard believes that '70s cultural references have stuck with us -- afros are popular again, and there are countless music videos that reference "Superfly" and "The Mack" --...

First there was a resolution to take a privilege away from a member of Congress due to his corrupt behavior: House Members Wednesday will have to cast a recorded vote on whether it is acceptable for Ways and Means Chairman Charlie Rangel (D-NY) to evade federal taxes for over a decade, and yet pay none of the penalties and interest charges that the IRS piles on the average American taxpayer for far less serious offenses. House Republican Conference Secretary John Carter (R-TX) this morning is introducing a Privileged Resolution calling for Rangel to be removed as Chairman of the committee...

In the wake of Derrion Albert's death, I find myself increasingly disillusioned by the current state of Black America. While African Americans comprise 13.5 percent of the population, 43 percent of all murder victims in 2007 were African America. Of the 43 percent who were murdered, 93.1 percent were killed by African Americans. Was it always like this? The answer is Unequivocally: NO. The disproportionate crime rates, illegitimacy rates, divorce rates, drugs abuse, and disproportionate incarceration rates didn't begin until liberals took over the Black Community in the 60s. Before liberals came and negated the influence of the Black father...

A group of pro-life black pastors are showing their support for President Obama’s health care plan, though conservative public policy experts note that such a plan remains nowhere in sight. Bishop Charles E. Blake Sr., who heads the six million-member Church of God in Christ, and the group of black ministers endorsed the president’s controversial health care overhaul Thursday but was careful to reiterate Obama's no-abortion-funding pledge while cautioning the White House against breaking its promise. "In accord with our commitment to Christian teaching, we wholeheartedly affirm the president's position that medical costs related to the abortion of fetuses shall...

Is there anyway to remind the ones calling everyone who disagrees with the potus "a racist" that he is also white? What I want to know is why is he considered a black man? Last time I checked he was born from a white mother, whose parents were both white as well. Why is he soley black? To consider him "ONLY BLACK" is racist! Why won't the conservative voices of the airwaves raise that question? I think by considering himself to be only black or all of the voices calling those who disagree a racist, should remember he is as...

Some jobs require a bit more on the resume than just having good references, experience and a knack for the position you're applying for. A certain amount of ideological responsibility is needed for you to serve in some positions, for example, members of the FBI can't get actively involved in politics. Why? Because their job is to be loyal to the government and the constitution, as private citizens they can vote for who they want but as representatives of the government they have to tow a different line than the rest of us. This may not sound fun or fair,...

A plea by California Representative Laura Richardson that House Democrats respond after Republican Joe Wilson shouted “you lie” at President Barack Obama last week helped spur her party’s leaders to action. Open season on black politiciansBy ELINOR TATUM Publisher and Editor in Chief Published: Thursday, September 10, 2009 1:20 PM EDT It seems as though hunting season has begun, and it seems that politicians of color are the main targets. Or maybe they always have been. But the reactionary and repressive forces in our society seem to be unleashing aggressive attacks on African-Americans—particularly men—who have amassed unprecedented political power and influence at state and national levels. Suddenly, we are seeing an America for the first time with a number of black men with real political power. It is not just the...

The liberal wing of the House Democratic caucus is launching a counter-offensive to efforts by the White House and Senate Democrats to back away from a health care reform bill that includes a strong public option. Rep. Intimidate the CIA, clear the Black Panthers?Examiner Editorial August 16, 2009 President Obama's Attorney General, Eric Holder, wants to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate charges that the Central Intelligence Agency abused alleged and proven terrorists. A successful prosecution under this inquiry would require proof that an interrogator "specifically intended to inflict severe physical or mental pain or suffering." Such an investigation has little or no chance of success. But it has an extremely high chance of intimidating intelligence operatives when they seek information that could save American lives. It is extremely baffling why this sop for the Left would...
