NAPLES, Italy — The aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt entered Navy 6th Fleet waters in Europe on Monday for operations on its way to the Middle East. The Roosevelt heads a carrier strike group that comprises five ships and more than 6,000 sailors and Marines. The group departed the East Coast last week for an anticipated eight-month deployment. It is expected to relieve the USS Carl Vinson strike group, currently conducting airstrikes against the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria. The Roosevelt will end its tour in its new home station of San Diego, part of a three-carrier shift...

Apparently President Obama can’t see Egypt and Libya from his house. On the anniversary of the worst terrorist attacks ever perpetrated on America, our embassy in Cairo and our consulate in Benghazi were attacked by violent Islamic mobs. In Cairo, they scaled the walls of our embassy, destroyed our flag, and replaced it with a black Islamic banner...

Biden to 'dull as hell' fundraiser crowd: 'Pretend you like me' By Justin Sink - 04/27/12 12:38 PM ET Vice President Biden ordered supporters to "pretend you like me" after mocking them as "dull as hell" at a campaign fundraiser in Washington on Friday. The vice president was speaking to Turkish and Azerbaijani donors about the potential of the region as a democratic and economic force when he noticed he wasn't getting much of a reception. “I guess what I’m trying to say without boring you too long at breakfast – and you all look dull as hell, I might...

Referring to President Roosevelt's foreign policy quote about speaking softly and carrying a big stick, Biden told the crowd that Obama followed a similar path with Iran. "I promise you, the president has a big stick. I promise you," Biden said as the crowd laughed. (Video at link)

Vice President Joe Biden apparently did not catch the potential double meaning when he paraphrased a famous Teddy Roosevelt quote on Wednesday when he said “I promise you, Obama has a big stick.” The audience, mostly comprised of New York University students, immediately got the joke. Speaking before a group of NYU students on Thursday, Vice President Joe Biden praised President Barack Obama’s role as a commander-in-chief and touted the president’s numerous successes in foreign policy and in the prosecution of anti-terror efforts abroad. Biden told the audience, invoking a variation on the famous quote by President Teddy Roosevelt, “I...

The basic bargain is sound: countries with nuclear weapons will move toward disarmament, countries without nuclear weapons will not acquire them.” -- President Barack Obama, Prague, April 6, 2009 As far as nuclear weapons are concerned, the President of the United States wants America to disarm: “Countries with nuclear weapons will move toward disarmament.” It is hard to imagine a more destructive goal. A nuclear disarmed America would lead to massive and widespread killing, more genocide, and very possibly the nuclear holocaust worldwide nuclear disarmament is meant to prevent. There is nothing moral, let alone realistic, about this goal. Here...
  • Iran and Syria behind Tel Aviv bomb: Israel's Mofaz

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel's defense minister accused Iran and Syria of being directly responsible for Thursday's suicide bombing in Tel Aviv which wounded 30 people, newspaper reports said on Friday. The Haaretz daily reported that Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz said Israeli authorities had "decisive proof that that the attack in Tel Aviv was a direct result of the Axis of Terror that operates between Iran and Syria." Mofaz was also quoted as saying that Iran had funded the attack while the operational orders to the suicide bomber, who came from the occupied West Bank city of Nablus, were issued at...

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT There was a breakfast meeting at the White House today, and the president came out and discussed it. His meeting was with -- Let's see, who did he meet? -- Arlen Specter, Harry Reid, Patrick Leahy and Bill Frist. Yeah. So he met with Specter, Leahy, Frist and Senator Harry Reid about the current vacancy and what might be an up-coming one. Just to set this up: last week, the president sort of smacked down some conservatives for daring to suggest that the attorney general, Alberto Gonzales, would be an unacceptable Supreme Court nominee because of substantive issues....

ROME (Reuters) - The United States on Wednesday warned countries it has accused of pursuing weapons of mass destruction, including Iran, Syria and North Korea (news - web sites), to "draw the appropriate lesson from Iraq (news - web sites)." John R. Bolton, U.S. undersecretary of state for arms control and international security, also appealed to Syria and other countries in the Middle East to open themselves up to "new possibilities" for peace in the region. "With respect to the issue of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in the post-conflict period, we are hopeful that a number of...

ABOARD THE USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT -- They share the same long hours, the same stress of fighting in war, but those in supporting roles receive little of the glory showered on combat pilots. Still, aviators like Lt. Kyle Horlacher whose squadron has had the task of refueling the gas-guzzling supersonic jets before they go to fight over Iraq, wouldn't have it any other way, most of the time."There's a part of you that sometimes wishes you could get over there and see some action," acknowledges Horlacher. "But generally, we're happy to be doing what we need to do."It is only...

After about three days of receiving no mail from my son in law aboard the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT, I finally got three from him early this morning. Please pass this around --- I am a small and precious child, my dad's been sent to fight... The only place I'll see his face, is in my dreams at night. He will be gone too many days for my young mind to keep track. I may be sad, but I am proud. My daddy's got your back. I am a caring mother. My son has gone to war... My mind is filled...
