Issuing misdemeanor summonses to two of the three people involved in the “brutal attack on an innocent family” at a gas station in north Baton Rouge Sunday night was an “error in judgment” by the officers who did not book the suspects into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, Provisional Police Chief Carl Dabadie Jr., said Friday. “We have counseled the officers involved and I have re-emphasized to all my commanders that I expect offenders who commit misdemeanor crimes of violence will be booked into the prison, not summonsed,” Dabadie said in a statement.

PHILADELPHIA – Two people will serve prison time for their roles in the fatal beating of a 23-year-old man who was trying to hail a cab in Philadelphia. WPVI-TV reports (http://bit.ly/YalpZC ) that Kenneth Santiago pleaded guilty Friday to involuntary manslaughter in the death of Kevin Kless. Santiago's punishment is two to five years behind bars. Stephen Ferguson pleaded guilty, also Friday, to third-degree murder. He is to serve five to 10 years in prison.

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – An arrest has been made months after a woman in her 60s was attacked and raped. The suspect is only 15 years old. The assault happened in early February and Sacramento sheriff’s detectives finally linked evidence at the scene to the teenager. “My mom and our family is very lucky that he didn’t kill her,” the victim’s son, who wished to remain anonymous, said. His 64-year-old mother thought she was safe in her own home until she was brutally attacked, raped and robbed inside her south Sacramento apartment.

A Mankato woman is charged with arranging the beating of her husband by two men with aluminum baseball bats. Prosecutors say 24-year-old Ashley Stillwell had an argument with her husband over bills on Jan. 8, left the house and returned with the two men.
