The Providence Journal’s coverage of the assault on traditional marriage advocates in Warwick, RI on July 28 has consistently downplayed how pepper spray was used on the conservative protesters, in favor of how food was thrown at them. ProJo.com’s Wednesday report on the attack ran with the headline, “Same-sex marriage protesters assaulted with food,” and didn’t mention the pepper spray until the second-to-last paragraph. The following morning, reporter Kate Branson used a more nuanced headline (“Update: 4 accused of hurling food at activists in Warwick”), but at least mentioned the pepper spray in the second paragraph. The American Society for the...

(AP Photo/El Monte Police Department) It all started out with a kick to the head. True, the suspect was not exactly one to elicit sympathy, but that's not the point. A free society cannot tolerate police acting outside the law to administer physical punishment. Except Dean Scoville, "Associate Editor of Police Magazine and a retired patrol supervisor and investigator with the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department," disagrees with that: There was a time when post pursuit ass-kickings were obligatory. Cops knew it, suspects knew it, and there are enough old timers on both sides of the fence that will verify the...

North Korea's nuclear threats are grabbing the world's attention. But if the North were to strike South Korea today, it would probably first try to savage Seoul with the men and missiles of its huge conventional army. The attack might well begin with artillery and missiles capable of hitting South Korea's capital with little or no warning. North Korea's vast cadre of commandos could try to infiltrate and cause chaos while the South tried to respond. The hair-trigger nature of the danger is reflected in the pledge of preparedness that American ground forces stationed just below the North-South divide have...

As the state's acute budget crisis shows, it is absolutely crucial for California to have a hospitable business climate. Without a healthy economy, there is not enough tax revenue to sustain even basic government programs. One would think this would have finally sunk in with the Democrats who control the Legislature, given the plunge in revenue over the past two years and the resulting budget carnage. One would be wrong. The California Chamber of Commerce's recently released list of “job-killer” bills now pending in Sacramento is like a greatest hits collection of anti-business legislation. There are the usual attempts to...

Police have yet to determine how Lovelle Mixon, a parolee with a lengthy criminal record, got his hands on the handgun and the SKS rifle he used to kill four Oakland police officers on that grim Saturday afternoon just over a week ago. But the horror of the slayings drives home the need to enforce and enhance gun-control laws throughout the nation. For starters, Congress must bring back the national ban on 19 types of military-style weapons it enacted in 1994, with the leadership of Sen. Dianne Feinstein, but allowed to expire. The inexpensive SKS is a semi-automatic carbine designed...

Here is a pretty accurate transcription of Hillary on "On the Record" last night for those who are interested: Greta, I remember, 15 years ago, the reason the assault weapons ban was passed is because police chief's in America begged for it. They said, I'm sending my guys out on the streets. They're being out-gunned. The criminals, the gang members, they have automatic weapons, military assault rifles, get them off the streets. Give our guys a fighting chance. And, there's no doubt in my mind that the 10 years we had an assault weapons ban in America, was one of...

New York ABC radio reporter George Weber, 47, was murdered by a young, self-described “sadomasochist” with whom he had hooked up for sex on Craigslist.com. A former homosexual, David, who has become a friend of AFTAH, says hook-ups, anonymous sex and “instant gratification” are “part and parcel of the male homosexual lifestyle.” Folks, the greatest threat of violence to homosexual men comes from … other homosexual men.
