President Barack Obama isn’t exactly riding high on public support, but for the first time in two years more Americans approve of the job he is doing than disapprove. The news comes courtesy of a new Wall Street Journal/NBC poll that was released Monday. It found that 48 percent of Americans approve of the job Obama is doing as president, while 47 percent disapprove. Obama is only one point into positive territory and hasn’t hit 50 percent since February 2013, but it’s the highest number the president has seen in this survey since June 2013. We here at Free Republic know what an unmitigated disaster fubo is. But what is up with the rest of the country? I despise this despot. I mute the tv when he talks, and look away from from the screen to avoid seeing this monster. So how does 45% approve of the job he is doing? The World Health Organization has approved the first rapid test for Ebola in a potential breakthrough for ending an epidemic that has killed almost 10,000 people in West Africa, it said on Friday. The two Republican Arizona senators who worked with Democrats to pass an immigration bill last June have managed to sink their poll ratings to record lows. Sen. John McCain has reached a 30 percent approval rating from Arizona voters. Sen. Britons are to be the first in the world to test a new vaccine against the deadly ebola virus. Altogether 60 healthy volunteers will be given the vaccine next month in a trial led by Oxford University scientists. According to the poll, which was released Wednesday, the President's approval rating among Americans stands at 42%. That's not great, but it's basically unchanged since March. Only 42% believe that Obama can manage the government effectively. Again, nothing to celebrate, but it's virtually unchanged from the 43% who felt that way in March. The poll was conducted for CNN by ORC International from July 18-20, with 1,012 adult Americans questioned by telephone.

While Russian President Vladimir Putin is increasingly a pariah on the world stage, his approval rating in Russia has never been higher. A new poll from Gallup shows that 83 percent of Russians approve of Putin's job performance, up nearly 30 points from his 2013 rating and tied with the previous all-time high from 2008.
