A Texas catering business will pay the United States $26,400 for engaging in “citizenship-discrimination,” as part of a settlement with the Justice Department announced Tuesday. Culinaire International unlawfully discriminated against employees based on their citizenship status, the Justice Department claimed, because it required non-citizen employees to provide extra proof of their right to work in the United States. Culinaire has agreed to pay the United States $20,460 in civil penalties, receive training in anti-discrimination rules of the Immigration and Nationality Act, revise its work eligibility verification process, and create a $40,000 back pay fund for “potential economic victims.”

A Dallas teen strangled his 5-year-old cousin Sunday, then dumped her body in a vacant apartment unit near his own, police said. Angel Lizandro Sanches-Zenteno, 17, was booked Monday morning, some 12 hours after police found little Kathrine Alejandra Gonzalez dead in a unit at the Lake Highlands apartment complex. Authorities believe the murder suspect came into the country illegally about a year ago and have issued an immigration hold, along with a charge of capital murder of a person under 6 years old.

HOUSTON, Texas -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is expected to allow thousands of illegal immigrant deportees to return to the U.S., so long as they have ties to Southern California. Taxpayers will additionally fund a media campaign in Mexico, alerting deportees that they may be eligible to come back to the United States. An appeals court in Germany has ruled that a family court's decision to keep legal custody of four children away from their parents, Dirk and Petra Wunderlich, was wrong, and ordered that complete custody be returned to the family.
