Whatever your opinion of Obamacare, there’s no denying that its full implementation next year presents a major challenge for many businesses across the country. Starting in 2014, firms of more than 50 employees will be required to offer health insurance to their full-time employees — defined as those that work more than 30 hours per week — or pay a penalty. These expenses, along with added costs of complying with the law, will force many businesses to raise prices or reduce profit margins, two things business leaders never enjoy doing. While these mandates will increase costs for many businesses across...

Wall-E-Like Farming Robots Could Replace Undocumented Workers and Save the US Billions Despite advancements in mechanization within US agriculture, some menial jobs are still best left to human workers. Problem is, federal crackdowns on undocumented laborers have decimated that workforce. The Harvester automaton could provide a cheap, readily available labor force without the threat of raids by the INS. The US agriculture industry is worth about $300 billion annually—half from livestock production, the other half from crops. However, some of the most basic jobs in this industry still have to be performed by people. Jobs like offloading potted plants from...

One week before that, though, Palin laid out a promise and a warning to her own party in a speech to the Faith and Freedom Coalition conference in Washington, D.C. She said Americans do not deserve the exceptional country its founding fathers left them if they do not keep faith with the working class. And she said that that faith would be lost if the the Gang of Eight's bill, passed by the Senate on Thursday, became law. Her words...

President Barack Obama is hailing Senate passage of a historic immigration bill that he says moves the country a step closer to fixing a broken immigration system. Now he's calling on the House to do the same. The president is also urging supporters to keep a, quote, "watchful eye." With the issue moving to the House, Obama says now is the time that opponents will try their hardest to block the bill from becoming law. He's asking supporters to tell their representatives in the House to vote for the bill.

1.) Why can't the building of additional border fencing be totally under congressional control (that is funding for it, decisions concerning the timing of its building, etc)? There is no reason why passage of any final bill wouldn't have a trigger that automatically and immediately started and set into motion the building of the additional border fence. 3.) Like the cavalry riding to the rescue, the Corker-Hoeven 1192 page amendment is purportedly the "magic bullet" to salvage the Rubio-Schumer amnesty bill (S 744). The unstated objective is to make border security the focal point of the bill and the sole criterion on which to judge its viability. The premise is that if you can fix the border security problem then the rest of the bill can go sailing through with 70 or more votes from the Senate. Perhaps we should no longer be surprised when the former half-term Alaska governor jabs at GOP colleagues weighs in on public policy. And yet... It's easy and tiresome to trash Sarah Palin as an uneducated embarrassment to the Republican Party (a party of which I am a member). But when the great anti-intellectual takes ridiculously simple-minded shots at Marco Rubio for supporting immigration reform, something needs to be said. The Sunshine State News asked the former Alaska governor to comment on immigration reform. She took the opportunity to take a giant swing at Marco Rubio: Just like they did with...

Mitch McConnell got another lucky break today when Obama announced his latest climate fascism that will cripple the coal industry. He was provided with another low-hanging talking point to distract from the most immediate threat of amnesty – something he actually has the power to stop. In case you were wondering why McConnell hasn’t given any floor speeches opposing this bill, and refused to state his position until the hour of the vote on Corker-Hoeven, take a look at this article at the Huffington Post: The top two Republicans in the Senate, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and John Cornyn of...
  • 5 Senators Who Support Immigration Bill Don't Know Answer to Key Question About It

Obamacare poses a tricky problem for supporters of the Senate's comprehensive immigration reform bill. It would be too politically toxic to give illegal immigrants amnesty and taxpayer subsidies under Obamacare, so the Senate bill prohibits "registered provisional immigrants" (individuals who are now residing illegally in the United States granted legal status under the bill) from receiving Obamacare subsidies. But in so doing the Senate's immigration bill would create a big financial incentive for some employers to hire non-citizens granted legal status over American citizens. As the Washington Examiner's Philip Klein recently reported: "Under Obamacare, businesses with over 50 workers that employ...

As if immigration weren’t rocky enough territory for the GOP, Sarah Palin is on a tear against the Senate’s hard-won compromise bill. Michelle Cottle on the Mama Grizzly’s rallying cry. Sarah Palin sure is having fun with her anti-immigration-reform crusade. Earlier this month, the politician-turned-pundit smacked Jeb Bush for ostensibly dissing the fertility of white women. Now, with the Senate poised to pass a hard-won compromise immigration bill, she has taken to Facebook to tee off on Sen. Marco Rubio and all the other elitist, amnesty-peddling “crony capitalists” plotting to screw over decent, hardworking Americans. “Holes in the Border as...
  • PALIN: PRIMARY RUBIO AND AYOTTE? SURE.

In an interview on Gibson Radio today Sarah Palin said Marco Rubio has flipped and flopped on Immigration, and as a result if someone wanted to primary Rubio, fine by her. Same with Kelly Ayotte. She is not alone. Not a few people recall that Marco Rubio attacked Charlie Crist in 2010 for holding the exact same position Rubio holds today. In fact, you could say Rubio beat Crist for the Florida Senate seat on precisely that issue: Rubio opposed what he called Amnest (legalization without border security), and today he seems to support it.
  • Hispanics, Well … Turn Out to Be Democrats

Everybody is focused on the centrality of immigration reform as a driver of Hispanic vote. And that’s an accurate perception to a significant degree. But over recent months we’ve seen more and more polling which shows that Hispanics aren’t voting for Democrats because of the immigration issue. They’re voting for Democrats because they turn out disproportionately to be Democrats. That might sound like word play but here’s what I mean. On issue after issue, Hispanics appear to either overwhelmingly or more than the public at large support the Democratic position. Today we had a poll showing that Hispanics overwhelmingly support...

A new website is calling for a grassroots effort to recall Arizona Senators Jeff Flake and John McCain. The recall petitions are based firmly on the grounds of the Senators’ support of the Immigration Reform Amnesty Bill. The two “Gang of Eight” Senators have chosen to turn their backs on those who voted them into office and it is high time that Arizona gets their payback on the two RINO Senators. The website, senatorflake.com, is very simple. They are not begging for donations and do not appear to be in the data harvesting business. This would appear to be an...
