I attended Tuesday's small, yet spirited, rally against the decision by the Board of Health-at Chairman Bloomberg’s urging-to prohibit the sale of sugary drinks above 16 ounces at restaurants and food carts throughout New York City. There were many civically-minded New Yorkers in the crowd-such as the man seen above-brought together by the capricious whims of our current mayor.

It’s difficult to gauge the ultimate impact of this past week’s Supreme Court decision invalidating much of Arizona’s landmark immigration enforcement law, with the exception of Section 2(b), i.e. the clause empowering local police to ascertain someone’s immigration status if ”reasonable suspicion” exists when he or she is detained. Two days ago I had the pleasure of attending a benefit concert for the USO at a neighborhood bar in the East Village called Billy Hurricane’s. As you can see by the pictures posted below, the chief attraction that night was the Liberty Bells.
