Veterans plan to protect the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington during an anti-war protest next month. They fear demonstrators may deface the memorial, even though organizers say they have absolutely no intention of doing that. Two veterans groups say they're concerned because some anti-war protesters spray-painted graffiti on the steps of the U.S. Capitol in January. The black granite walls of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial bear the names of all those who were killed during the Vietnam conflict. The head of the veterans group known as rolling thunder says his members plan to protect the memorial and, quote, "support our...

About 30 members of the Legion started organizing for the trip shortly after they got wind of a large anti-war demonstration planned for March 17. It wasn't the anti-war message that got their backs up so much as it was the location that activists picked to start a march to the Pentagon - the Vietnam Veterans Memorial - and what happened during an anti-war rally held Jan. 27. On that day, a small group of over-exuberant protesters spray-painted slogans on the Capitol steps. The veterans fear a repeat performance that could damage the memorial, something they say they will not...

A group of Vietnam veterans calling themselves "A Gathering of Eagles" will stand vigil over the Vietnam Wall. Another group, "Move America Forward," will caravan from San Francisco to Washington DC, where they will set up a patriotic counter-rally on the National Mall. "We're going there to protect our memorial and show support for our troops," said Artie Muller, founder and executive director of...

The purpose of this thread will be to pool our resources and ideas to counter the attempted take-over of our nation’s capital and foreign policy. It is not the place to voice your disgust with those that feel it is necessary to present a street presence to counter the dregs of society seeking to undermine and destroy our country and our leadership. If that is your purpose, please move along. On January 27, 2007, Thunder90 posted a thread to advise us of the next convergence on our nations capital by the anti-American hate-mongers. This gives us SEVEN WEEKS to organize...

WASHINGTON -- Some veterans are up in arms over plans by anti-Iraq-war demonstrators to assemble next month at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Billed as a protest marking the fourth anniversary of the Iraq war's start and the 40th anniversary of a pivotal march on the Pentagon against the Vietnam War, the March 17 event will commence near the memorial and end at the Pentagon. Organizers expect an enormous turnout. The Military Order of the Purple Heart, Rolling Thunder and other veterans groups are promising to form a protective ring around the Wall, which they consider "hallowed" ground. Purple Heart national...

The Wall to Demonstrators How much more do you want of us? We wait here in dismay as you plan to disrupt our serenity, your placards screaming of ‘Peace’. Don’t you know there is no war here – only blessed release from the pain and agony of our journey to this hallowed place? Don’t sully it with your anger – do not demean it with your slogans. Here, there is commiseration, not turmoil, solace, not confrontation.Take your anger to those who caused it. There is no place for it here. We have endured enough. Leave us to commune in harmony...

NASHVILLE - The Sons of Confederate Veterans plans to donate at least $10,000 to be used in efforts to fight a proposal to change the names of three "Confederate" parks in downtown Memphis. Nearly 1,000 SCV members approved the "emergency donation" at the group's annual convention, which concluded Saturday in Nashville, according to a statement released by the SCV. The $10,000 represents the "first installment of cash" and will be used for "any and all purposes including litigation," the statement says.
