Chapel Hill, N.C. — An alleged hate crime against a gay student on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus last week was false, officials said Tuesday. Chancellor Holden Thorp said a student who told authorities he was branded with a searing hot object because of his sexual orientation filed a false police report and that it will not be reported as a hate crime. Quinn Matney, who is gay, told authorities April 5 that a man walked up to him near a foot bridge on campus, called him a derogatory name, told him "here is a taste...

MSNBC Adds Al Sharpton to Promos for Ed Schultz-Hosted Special ‘The Black Agenda’by Tommy Christopher | 6:33 pm, April 7th, 2011 MSNBC has taken some rather pointed criticism over its upcoming A Stronger America: The Black Agenda special (airing this Sunday at noon EDT), co-hosted by Ed Schultz and Rev. Al Sharpton. The chief complaint, from across the political spectrum, has been the choice of white commentator Ed Schultz as headliner, and how it highlights the lack of diversity at the network. MSNBC had been promoting the show without billing co-host Al Sharpton, but MSNBC has now added Sharpton to...

Polls show that President Obama's Libya intervention has the lowest public support of any US military action in three decades. That's not surprising, because Obama seems ambivalent about the enterprise himself. Whatever he says tonight to rationalize it, Americans are learning a sober truth. America's chief executive isn't simply one step behind events in Libya; he seems determined to miss a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the free world in the Mideast. From Tunisia to Iran, the region is in the midst of a democratic seismic shift as autocracies old and new, friend and foe, rock on their foundations. Like most earthquakes,...

Recently a former Ramapo High School teacher ran afoul of the law by giving a sexually explicit book to a high school girl. The ex-teacher was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, among other things. Meanwhile, Clarkstown high school students are reading a book that contains all kinds of sexually explicit episodes, including graphic depictions of heterosexual and homosexual encounters, forced oral sex, masturbation, and bestiality. But there is no outcry from the masses in Clarkstown, because this book (which I will not name, to deny it undeserved publicity) is part of the high school English...

(Mashable) -- More than 100,000 people have signed an online petition calling for Apple to remove an app from the iTunes store that was created by an anti-gay Christian organization. Exodus International, which according to its website has ministries that "provide support for individuals who want to recover from homosexuality," released the app on February 15. The app has a 4+ approval rating from the Apple app store, and the organization is quick to point out that this rating is reserved for those apps that "contain no objectionable material." Gay rights activists obviously disagree.

23 Years into a military career I can say I have seen a lot. I have seen good and bad decisions of military and political leaders but have come away with one very important understanding of what their decisions do when it comes to life in the military...many of their changes are forever lasting. I was inducted in the mid eighties. When I went through pilot training in the 1990s they used the Chaplains to start several "conversations" with all of us. One on religious "tolerance" and the other on sexuality, read gay tolerance. In the religious tolerance we had...

Energy Policy: While we sit on abundant oil and natural gas reserves, prices at both the wellhead and the pump are rising on fears of spreading Mideast turmoil and short domestic supply. But then, maybe that's the plan. The silver lining for this administration in the gathering storm over the Middle East may be what it's doing and may yet do to energy prices. The average price for gasoline jumped nearly 12 cents a gallon last week to $3.287, according to AAA. But at the White House, that's not necessarily bad news. Oil has surged to 2 1/2-year highs as...

In a pre-recorded interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria set to air Sunday morning, investment billionaire George Soros accuses President Barack Obama of having “lost control” of the national economy and criticizes the Democratic president for allowing Republicans to set the national agenda. Furthermore, Soros goes on to predict that Obama‘s policy shortcomings will have a negative impact on the nation’s economic recovery and accuses the GOP of mixing economic and ideological priorities at the expense of the American worker.

Shirley Sherrod, the public face of the $1 Billion Pigford Scandal, Is Suing Andrew Breitbart– In July of last year, Andrew Breitbart and Big Government released video of former Ag employee Shirley Sherrod admitting during a speech to the NAACP that she did not assist a poor white farmer as much as she could have because of his “attitude” and race. Sherrod said it was years ago, she said she learned from her experiences, she said blah-blah-blah… The state-run attacked and smeared Andrew Breitbart and FOX News for showing only a segment from Sherrod’s speech. Reform: As the head of Medicaid and Medicare services testifies in favor of ObamaCare, the CBO director says it will destroy 800,000 jobs. Talk about killing two birds with one stone. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi once famously said that we'd have to pass ObamaCare to see what was in it. She also boasted that the health care bill would create 4 million jobs — "400,000 of them almost immediately." Now that we've seen what's in it, we realize the possible consequences for our physical and economic health. And congressional testimony before GOP-led committees has given us fresh reasons for...

Liberals dismayed by Dems’ deficit-friendly job-creation agendaBy Alexander Bolton - 02/01/11 06:09 AM ET Democrats are trying to push a jobs agenda on the cheap at a time when Republicans have pledged to block any legislation that would add to the federal deficit. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) held a conference call Monday afternoon to tout the long-delayed Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reauthorization bill as the first item on the 2011 jobs agenda. Also on Monday, the White House launched the Startup America initiative, a national campaign to promote innovation and high-growth entrepreneurship. But Democratic leaders have so far...

Censorship: Virtually the first thing an authoritative Egyptian government did to quell dissent was to shut down its Internet. So why are we debating a bill to give our government the same power? In George Orwell's classic "1984," the control of information and its flow was critical to Big Brother's maintaining his grip on the people and manipulating their passions. Authoritarian governments and dictators worldwide know that lesson well. The ability to see how others live and to exchange ideas is a catalyst to dissent and unrest. The ability to choke off that flow is a necessity for authoritarian governments....

ObamaCare: The granting of 500 more exemptions to unions, companies and even states begs the question — why is "affordable health care for all Americans" neither affordable nor for everybody? The Obama administration has become famous for its crony capitalism, in which companies like General Electric were rewarded while energy companies, for example, were cast into the outer darkness. Now we have what might be called crony health care, with the favored escaping the full consequences of ObamaCare while the rest of us deal with the rising costs and reduced service. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi once told us we'd...

White House: With cap-and-trade seemingly dead and EPA's regulatory authority under attack, the administration's climate czar is abandoning ship. Too bad she's not taking the administration's energy policies with her. Carol Browner, former EPA director now serving as a senior Obama adviser for energy and climate change, a formerly nonexistent position created to avoid Senate confirmation to a real position, has decided to hang it up. Or she's been thrown under the bus, depending on your point of view. As a "czar," she was a prime mover for climate change and the administration's war on carbon. But when cap-and-trade legislation...

Reps. Issa, Cummings to meet on Oversight agenda after public sparringBy Susan Crabtree - 01/24/11 10:50 AM ET The top Republican and Democrat on the House oversight panel, who have sparred publicly in the opening days of the 112th Congress over the committee’s investigative agenda and approach, are meeting Monday morning to discuss their differences. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) and Rep. Elijiah Cummings (D-Md.) were expected to meet at 10:30 a.m. to hash out Issa’s plans for the panel — a day before the panel’s first organizational meeting and after Issa and Cummings have traded early hostile fire. It remains...

PATRICIA Dludlu, otherwise known as the sex-change teacher, yesterday caused drama at the Manzini Magistrate’s court when he asked it to adjourn owing to what he termed post stress disorder and that he needed counselling. This was just before Detective Constable Bongani Mbuyisa delivered his evidence in chief at the court before Magistrate Sindi Zwane as a fifth witness in his case of sexually molesting a pupil. Dludlu went public about a sex-change that never was. He claimed he changed his male organs for female ones. Previously he was known as Patrick and later changed to Patricia after the imaginary...

Energy: Keeping a campaign vow to bankrupt the industry, the administration revokes the permit for an approved, working coal mine in West Virginia. Guess those electric cars will have to get their energy elsewhere. We and others have warned that in the wake of November's "shellacking," the Obama administration would attempt to implement its agenda through regulations and rule making. As West Virginia's coal industry has found, it matters not even if you follow the rules. In pursuit of this agenda, the rules can be changed on the fly. The Environmental Protection Agency has revoked the coal mining permit for...
