  • Air Force One, Military Do Not Belong to Obama

CBS News reported Friday that President Barack Obama held a fundraiser in Los Angeles at the home of movie actor George Clooney Thursday, and raised about $15 million. Yet the most troubling part of the report was the following words, "The star of the evening, the president, arrived at LAX in his private jet, Air Force One." The mainstream media had better get this straight -- Air Force One is not the "private jet" of the president, period. We are supposed to live in a country where presidents don't conduct themselves like kings, and the establishment media enables this "king"...

Fox News flatly denies it is engaged in any negotiations with African Press International, the Norway-based website that claims to have embarrassing recordings of Michelle Obama and which has announced to the world that it is working with the popular cable news channel. API has promised on its website that tapes of Michelle Obama's alleged conversation with the agency will be released by the Nov. 4 election. In a statement to WND after Fox's denial, API said, "We cannot force any one to believe us. We have put the notice out there and we do not put out things we...

MONTERREY, Mexico — Two federal police officers were shot dead Tuesday and two more were injured by gunfire in yet another attack on law enforcers in this violence-torn metropolis. The officers met a hail of high-caliber gunfire around 10 a.m. at a gas station close to a Holiday Inn Express near the center of the city. A least 100 shell casings littered the street around the scene. Their deaths bring to about 30 the number of officers killed in the Monterrey area this year in attacks blamed on organized crime. Authorities did not immediately release names of the officers or...
  • Was the Last Decade of Movies THAT Bad?

Is this all a decade of movies is worth? According to the American Film Institute's new list of the 100 greatest films, the last 10 years have produced only four great ones: "Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" (No. 50), "Saving Private Ryan" (No. 71), "Titanic" (No. 83) and "The Sixth Sense" (No. 89). I get bloated just typing those titles. Granted, the last 10 years have been a historically weak period for films. They can't touch Hollywood's golden era of the '40s, or the heralded '70s, when maverick directors roamed the studios.

LOS ANGELES — The years have been kind to "Citizen Kane," including the last decade. The 1941 Orson Welles classic — the story of a wealthy young idealist transformed by scandal and vice into a regretful old recluse — was again rated the best movie ever Wednesday by the American Film Institute. In the CBS special "AFI's 100 Years ... 100 Movies — 10th Anniversary Edition," "Citizen Kane" held the same No. 1 billing it earned in the institute's first top-100 ranking in 1998. There were notable changes elsewhere, though, with Martin Scorsese's 1980 masterpiece "Raging Bull" bounding upward from...

MEXICO CITY — A team of federal officers helped reduce ransom payoffs to only about 5 percent of the nearly $104 million demanded by kidnappers in the cases they worked on last year, a top law enforcement official here said. Specially trained agents help mediate between victims' families and kidnappers who have unrealistic ideas about how much the families are able to pay, said Facundo Rosas, head of the intelligence division of Mexico's federal police force. "It is not just taking on the kidnappers head on, it is about assisting families in a crisis," he said in a rare interview...

NUEVO LAREDO, Mexico — The parents of one of four presumed Gulf Cartel hit men shown captive in a gruesome execution video are criticizing the federal attorney general's office over its performance in the case and are questioning the government's resolve in fighting powerful drug cartels. The parents acknowledge their boy, Sergio Alberto Ramon Escamilla, may be tainted by the drug cartel wars, but prosecution of those responsible for the video, believed to be federal agents on a rival cartel's payroll, has been a half-hearted effort, the parents said in an exclusive interview. Out of fear for their safety, the...

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Distressed by thoughts of war, terrorism and natural disasters? Maybe an uplifting movie will take the edge off. For its ninth annual celebration of cinema, the American Film Institute aims to uncover the "most inspirational films of the century." "When times are darkest, during war and depression, movies ... provide a remarkable way for us to find ourselves again," said Jean Picker Firstenberg, AFI's director and chief executive. In what has to be the most absurd slap in the face to Mel Gibson and his moving picture The Passion of The Christ,” The American Film Institute named the film “a moment of significance.” The “events”, announced Monday, were those judged to have had the biggest impact on the world of the moving image during the past year as judged by two 13-person juries that also selected the film and TV awards. But the backhanded slap could not be more obvious than in this insulting justification for naming The Passion (as well as Fahrenheit 911) a “moment”: "Both filmmakers...

July 25, 2004 American Film Institute Dear Mr. Jeck: According to most critics, Moore's film is not only controversial, but it is filled with lies; makes a mockery of our capitalist and democratic system and most controversial of it all, it appeals to our worst enemies. So much for this American laughing on his way to the Bank while soldiers are dying to protect his rights! Still, Mr. Moore has...

Remember Elian Gonzales? His deportation to Cuba was probably the "tipping point" that gave Republicans control of the White House in the 2000 elections, as Cuban-Americans who had previously voted for Clinton switched sides or stayed home. Result: Florida was lost to the Democrats, and George Bush entered the White House. The issue was so emotional, that memories might affect the outcome of this year's Presidential contest. Now Agustin Blazquez says the American Film Institute is blacklisting his new documentary film Covering Cuba 3: Elian , after a successful showing at the Miami Film Festival. Blazquez produced and directed o...
