DALLAS (Reuters) - Texas Governor Rick Perry made a highly personal criticism on Thursday of the state senator who thwarted a Republican proposal to restrict abortion, saying she had not learned from her own experience as a teenage mother born to a single mother. In a speech to the largest anti-abortion group in the United States, Perry also accused abortion rights supporters and Democrat Wendy Davis, who talked for more than 10 hours on Tuesday to block the abortion bill, of hijacking the democratic process.

Commentators at the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times may decry the Episcopal Church as a place offering pet funerals but nothing for the faithful or failing to provide anything one cannot get from purely secular liberalism. Led by a grassroots coalition...

UNITED NATIONS - Jeers and catcalls greeted the top U.S. delegate to a global women's conference on Friday as she stressed Washington's opposition to abortion and support for sexual abstinence and fidelity. After withdrawing an unpopular anti-abortion amendment from a key U.N. document, the United States joined in approving the declaration that reaffirmed a 150-page platform agreed 10 years ago at a landmark U.N. women's conference in Beijing. However, top U.S. delegate Ellen Sauerbrey drew boos from the audience, which included some of the 6,000 activists who came from around the world, when she commented on Washington's interpretation of the...

NEW YORK -- On the eve of a United Nations' special session on children, critics of the Roman Catholic Church demanded an apology for priestly sexual abuse while an interfaith meeting called the hunger, poverty and violence faced by the world's youths "intolerable." The apology bid came from Catholics for a Free Choice, a maverick group that is asking a U.N. panel to investigate whether the church's treatment of molestation claims violated the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child. However it's unclear what impact, if any, the Committee on the Rights of the Child could have on the...
