It's strange to know young adults now, who have no personal recollection of the 9/11 attacks. Even stranger still to know people who lived that day and seem to have "moved on", without interest to look back and reflect. Damning, triggering cartoon. To not remember; and to not remember those no longer with us. What is aggravating are those growing number of Americans (and non-Americans) giving in to conspiracy theories. I see it in every comment stream on news sites that bring up 9/11. Building 7. Jet fuel. Inside job. Controlled demolitions. 28 redacted pages. So many nutjobs living amongst...

Starting on 9/16, I recorded a number of video tapes which I put onto YouTube two years ago. They were already starting to summarize the 9/11 day by 9/16. The commercials are out. Yesterday I gathered the videos all into a single 9-11 playlist.

At the '9/11 anniversary name reading' a guy appeared in a shirt that read Omar's bizarre words: "Some People Did Something". There are a few here who have mentioned that they think wearing that shirt there was inappropriate/out of context. What do you think? Today marks the 18th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks, when Al Qaeda terrorists crashed planes into the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon, killing nearly 3,000 people. Or, as Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) likes to describe it, "some people did something." She used that description while speaking at an event for the Council of American-Islamic Relations in California. The full quote is below:"Here's the truth," she said. "For far too long we have lived with the discomfort of being a second-class citizen. Frankly, I'm tired of it. And every single Muslim in this...

The New York Times tweeted and then deleted a comment Wednesday about the 9/11 attacks that suggested airplanes, not terrorists, were responsible for killing almost 3,000 people. The article is about “remembering those lost 18 years ago on 9/11,” when terrorists overtook multiple planes and crashed them into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Another plane crashed into a Pennsylvania field after citizens on board tried to take down the terrorists. “18 years have passed since airplanes took aim and brought down the World Trade Center,” the NYT original tweet read. Terrorists were responsible for the 9/11 attacks, not...

A time traveler returns to the days after 9-11-01 and the start of the Long War.

Where were you at 5:46 a.m. 18 years ago today? And at 6:03 a.m. that day, what, exactly, were you doing? Most of you reading this will be able to answer those questions without hesitation. At 5:46 a.m. Pacific Time on 9/11/01, five hijackers flew American Airlines Flight 11 into the northern side of 1 WTC — the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. Then, 17 minutes later, five hijackers crashed United Airlines Flight 175 into the southern side of 2 WTC. You remember these things because they register as one of the greatest tragedies...

“9/11” will always be remembered as one of the most horrific and catastrophic events ever in U.S. history. It sobers the mind that such a series of horrific events actually happened in the United States of America. America was completely and totally caught off guard. No one, seemingly, could ever imagine that such a day could have taken place here on U.S. soil. The events that followed were beyond anyone’s conception. What transpired on that September 11th morning came as a thief in the night to a sleeping and apathetic nation. It was a beautiful morning on that Tuesday of...

Feedback please from our fellow FReepers on our new The 9/11 Attacks: Understanding Al-Qaeda and the Domestic Fall-Out from America's Secret War piece, whose intro is below: With American military personnel now entering service who were not even alive on 9/11, this seems an appropriate time to reexamine the events of September 11, 2001 – the opaque motives for the attacks, the equally opaque motives for the counter-offensive by the United States and its allies known as the Global War on Terror, and the domestic fall-out for Americans concerned about the erosion of their civil liberties on the homefront. Before venturing further,...

New York City, 1985Opened in 1973, the Twin Towers was a massive complex of nearly 10 million square feet that was home to 430 companies and 35,000 workers. Closed permanently on September 11, 2001 It seems impossible but it has been 18 years since 9/11. The children who were in school that day are now all young adults. You would think that the cataclysmic events that unfolded during and after the worst terrorist attack on American soil would have been the formative experience that shaped the worldview of this cohort. But that is not the case. While many children...

A physician who roller-bladed to the scene of 9/11 as the Twin Towers burned has published never-before-seen photos from the recovery effort at Ground Zero, as America prepares to mark the 18th anniversary of the attacks tomorrow. After seeing the towers ablaze on September 11, 2001, Dr Emil Chynn, who had been walking his dog, rushed to the site to see what was happening. When he arrived he was surrounded by debris and smoke but rapidly got to work setting up what he claims to be the first triage center on site.

...helping New York firefighters hunt for survivors. WHEN actors want to support a cause they might appear on a charity ad or visit the suffering with an army of cameras in tow. But seventeen years ago today, as the world reeled from the 9/11 terror attacks, Hollywood actor Steve Buscemi instead donned a uniform he hadn't worn in nearly two decades to help hunt for survivors. *snip* The Reservoir Dogs and Boardwalk Empire star pulled 12-hour shifts for several days alongside other emergency service personnel. He wasn't there for publicity and refused all interview requests during the days he spent...
