As proof of just how weird this year is going to be, we're heading into the first weekend of 2024 seeing me do something I almost never do: softening my opinion of a Republican politician I never really liked before. For most of the DonkeyManureClownCar Republican primary debate season, I've found tech bro (h/t VodkaPundit) Vivek Ramaswamy to be a tedious nit who adds nothing to any of the national conversations that we should be having. He has scored a couple of scripted blows against Nikki Haley, but high fiving that is like giving someone a participation trophy for flossing...

It was a satisfying video for those who see America sinking into a criminal abyss: a brazen robber was systematically working his way through a Stockton, California convenience store's cigarette shelves, pouring hundreds of packs into a huge garbage can on wheels. Eventually, one clerk grappled with him, and another began whacking his legs with a long stick. The clerks are now being investigated for assault under the theory that you cannot use deadly force to protect commercial property. That's just wrong. ... police are investigating the clerks for criminal assault. These are the same police who never showed up...

Two Sikh 7-Eleven workers who attacked a thief after he repeatedly targeted their store are under investigation for assault, police in California have said. In a now-viral video, the workers are seen smacking the suspect with a stick after he entered the store in Stockton with a garbage can and began filling it with tobacco products from behind the counter. The attempted theft on July 29 was allegedly the third time in two days the man had targeted the store. On a previous occasion, he tried to intimidate staff by claiming he had a handgun. Despite widespread praise for the...

Store clerks have legal options when someone shoplifts. Teaming up to brutally beat the thief isn’t one of them. No wonder two 7-11 clerks in Stockton who battered a would-be shoplifter with a wooden rod are being investigated by police, as reported on TV news. Although brazen stealing is frustrating, costly and dangerous to store employees, confronting it with violence that far exceeds self-defense is not the answer.

As Sunday night gave way to Monday morning (“National 7/11 Day”), a string of Los Angeles area 7-Elevens were robbed and two people — one customer and one clerk — were killed. Three others were wounded in the five armed robberies that occurred over the course of the late evening and early morning. “Our hearts are with the victims and their loved ones. We are gathering information on this terrible tragedy and working with local law enforcement,” said 7-Eleven in a statement. “Right now, our focus is on Franchisee, associate and customer safety. With that in mind, we encouraged stores...

Slurpee day is canceled — kind of. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, 7-Eleven will not be holding its annual birthday celebration and handing out free Slurpees on July 11 (7-11), but it will be offering customers a social distancing-friendly alternative. All 33 million of the convenience store chain’s loyalty app members will receive a coupon for one free medium Slurpee in their accounts, redeemable through the end of July, “allowing you the opportunity to treat yourself when it’s convenient for you, while helping us practice physical distancing in stores,” according to a press release.

RIVER VALE, NJ — A River Vale 7-Eleven owner was arrested Tuesday after she allegedly sold sanitzer that burned children. Manisha Bharade was hit with four counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Four boys were burned. One mother shared pictures of her son on social media as a warning to parents. Bharade allegedly mixed commercially available foaming sanitizer, which was not meant for resale, and water. Fourteen bottles were sold. Five bottles were turned over to police. Officers said nine bottles are unaccounted for. Many have been making their own version of sanitzer amid coronavirus-related shortages.

It had already been a long and emotional day for the Virginia Beach man when he walked into a 7-Eleven store to buy a Big Gulp. He’d just been involved in a heated argument with his stepfather, and police had been called to the house. After talking to officers, it took him more than an hour to walk back to his conversion van, which was parked near his work. The vehicle wasn’t working at the time, but he’d been living in it for a few weeks. Once he got there, he realized his canteen was empty. “I said, ‘Well, it...

“There are but 155 years left … at which time … the world will come to an end,” wrote Christopher Columbus in his book “Libro de Las Profecias,” composed in 1502 between his third and fourth voyages. Columbus continued: “… The sign which convinces me that our Lord is hastening the end of the world is the preaching of the Gospel recently in so many lands.” Though his predictions were off, Columbus’ writings revealed his motivation for setting sail on his first voyage Aug. 3, 1492, with the Nina, Pinta and the Santa Maria. He sought to find a sea...

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) -- Two robbery suspects exchanged gunfire with Virginia Beach police late Thursday night before being taken into custody with the help of K9 officers. The robbery happened just before 11:20 p.m. at a 7-Eleven in the 1700 block of S. Independence Boulevard, according to police. Officers caught on to this robbery thanks in part to a plan that was developed to address a spree of multi-jurisdictional armed robberies at 7-Eleven stores across Hampton Roads. Members of the 4th Precinct and Special Operations Command were surveilling operations at stores, when officers saw the two masked suspects leaving...

U.S. immigration agents descended on dozens of 7-Eleven stores before dawn Wednesday to open employment audits and interview workers in what officials described as the largest operation against an employer under Donald Trump's presidency. Agents targeted about 100 stores nationwide, broadening an investigation that began with a 4-year-old case against a franchisee on New York's Long Island. The audits could lead to criminal charges or fines over the stores' hiring practices. The action appears to open a new front in Trump's sharp expansion of immigration enforcement, which has already brought a 40 percent increase in deportation arrests and plans to...

ICE agents targeted 98 stores in Washington, D.C., Indiana, Illinois, Maryland, California, Florida, Missouri and several other states to interview employees and deliver audits. “Businesses that hire illegal workers are a pull factor for illegal immigration and we are working hard to remove this magnet. ICE will continue its efforts to protect jobs for American workers by eliminating unfair competitive advantages for companies that exploit illegal immigration,” ICE head Thomas Homan said...
