Good news, but a tad underwhelming when you look at the numbers. Right now it breaks out at 40/37/20 among conservatives, moderates, and liberals, respectively. Between 2006 and 2008, when the left was routing us at the polls, it was roughly … 37/37/22, a testament to how toxic progressives’ brand is even at the best of times. In fact, between the second and third quarters of this year, conservatives actually lost a point while moderates gained two. Not sure what explains that, although as The One moves further left, crazy wingnut ideas like “we shouldn’t create a new federal health-care...

Republican Robert F. McDonnell carries a double-digit lead over Democrat R. Creigh Deeds into the final week of the campaign for Virginia governor, according to a new Washington Post poll.

Can anyone really be surprised? Conservatives continue to outnumber moderates and liberals in the American populace in 2009, confirming a finding that Gallup first noted in June. Forty percent of Americans describe their political views as conservative, 36% as moderate, and 20% as liberal. This marks a shift from 2005 through 2008, when moderates were tied with conservatives as the most prevalent group. ~~~ Conservatism is most prevalent among Republicans. However, the overall increase in this ideological stance since 2008 comes largely from political independents, among whom 35% say they are conservatives thus far in 2009 — compared with 29%...

Americans Take a Turn to the Right, Poll Shows John D. McKinnon reports on politics and polls. Among the striking findings in a new Gallup Poll on Americans’ shifting political attitudes is their growing anti-labor feeling. The percentage of Americans saying they would like to see unions have less influence in the country spiked to a record-high 42% in August 2009, compared with 32% a year earlier. That could spell trouble for some of the Obama administration’s policy priorities, including easing union-organizing rules and advancing “green jobs.” It might also complicate the president’s broader ambition to rebuild the economy in...

In a new Gallup Poll, twice as many Americans “describe their political ideology” as Conservative rather than liberal. In the latest Gallup survey of 16,321 adults identified 40% as “describing” their political ideology as Conservative, 20% say liberal and 36% described themselves as moderate. The poll has a +/- 1% margin for error.1 This poll reflects a slight shift in ideology among American adults where in 2005 the number of moderates was even with Conservatives. Gallup also suggested that a series of 16 polls conducted since January has identified some key issued upon which the American people are taking a...

The day after the election, Barack Obama was viewed more favorably by Americans than his wife, Michelle. Not any more. A USA Today/Gallup Poll taken in the last week shows a surge in positive views of the first lady over the past year even as her husband's ratings have eroded. As the anniversary of the presidential election approaches, Michelle Obama is viewed more favorably than her husband. "She has conducted herself as an educated, sensitive, down-to-earth woman -- not a black woman, a woman -- like when she does the gardening [to encourage healthful eating] and taking care of the...

This is a Politico congressional race story that should have been labeled "WARNING: Read this story with a huge grain of salt." Why? First of all because the poll of the New York 23rd Congressional District was mostly taken before the big events of this past week were well known there. And even more importantly, the source of the poll was the Daily Kos which endorsed the very liberal Republican in the race, Dede Scozzafava. However, before we go into how absurd this poll was, let us watch Josh Kraushaar of Politico get all breathless about this highly questionable story:...

What Do Americans Believe About Creationism and Evolution? After spending time on some of the recent discussions here at FR about Young Earth Creationism (YEC) and other points of view (which I will call Old Earth Creationism (OEC) and Naturalistic Evolution), I found myself wondering: how many FReepers (and how many Americans) hold each particular view? Obviously, there aren't any statistics on FReepers. But there are on Americans as a whole, and on certain groups of Americans. The best general resource I've found so far on people's viewpoints is located here. I will summarize some of those here. (Note: This...

After Barack Obama’s defenders accused critics of his Nobel Peace Prize of being un-American for criticizing the award, Gallup polled over 1500 adults to determine the public response to it. Surprisingly, Gallup found that 61% of Americans hate America — at least according to Obama’s defenders: The majority of Americans do not believe President Barack Obama deserved to win the Nobel Peace Prize (61%), but the public is split in its personal reaction to the announcement. Asked if they are “glad” Obama received the prize, 46% of Americans say yes and 47% say no. … The USA Today/Gallup poll conducted...

For the first time in some years, likely voters trust Republicans more than Democrats on all ten major issues in the Rasmussen survey. On five issues the Republican lead is double digits: Really, though, we could skip the other nine and just note that the Republicans lead 49-35 on the economy.

For the first time in recent years, voters trust Republicans more than Democrats on all 10 key electoral issues regularly tracked by Rasmussen Reports. The GOP holds double-digit advantages on five of them. Republicans have nearly doubled their lead over Democrats on economic issues to 49% to 35%, after leading by eight points in September. The GOP also holds a 54% to 31% advantage on national security issues and a 50% to 31% lead on the handling of the war in Iraq. But voters are less sure which party they trust more to handle government ethics and corruption, an issue...

With massively failed economic policies, high unemployment, attempts to destroy the best health care in the world, and an absolute inability to perform as Commander-in-Chief to the nation’s armed forces, Barack Obama is seeing an historic slide in his approval ratings. Both Rasmussen and Gallup have polls out this week showing that Barack Obama has lost favor with the American people.

a new poll by USA Today and Gallup finds 61 percent of Americans believe President Obama did not deserve the Nobel Peace Prize. Thirty-five percent said he did. Asked if they were personally glad Obama won the award, 46 percent said they were, and 47 percent said they were not. Obama in December heads to Oslo to collect his trophy.

Rasmussen reports have two different ways to look at presidential approval, the normal approval ratings and a comparison of those who strongly approve of the president and those who strongly disapprove of the president. The first number allows you to compare trends to those of other questions asked, the second is the true indicator of president's political future as those who feel strongly are more likely to work for or against a cause. Today's Rasmussen daily presidential tracking poll shows that 26% of the nation's voters strongly approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President,...

Not much Hope but a whole lot of Change. ObamaCare plus stagnant unemployment plus dithering on Afghanistan makes for a magical brew indeed, my friends. In fact, the 9-point drop in the most recent quarter is the largest Gallup has ever measured for an elected president between the second and third quarters of his term, dating back to 1953. One president who was not elected to his first term — Harry Truman — had a 13-point drop between his second and third quarters in office in 1945 and 1946… More generally, Obama’s 9-point slide between quarters ranks as one of...

Barack Obama has suffered the worst third quarter decline in his public approval rating of any elected president in the post-World War II era. Obama's average quarterly approval rating has slipped from 62 percent in the second quarter to 52.9 percent in the third quarter, according to Gallup polling. That 9 percentage point decline is twice the amount of any other post-war elected president. Dwight Eisenhower, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan saw their standing decline 4 points between the two quarters. No other elected president has declined more than 4 points since 1953. The third quarter began July 20 and...

There is a new Rasmussen poll out today with very striking data. It polls hypothetical general election match ups between Democrat Senatorial candidate Kendrick Meek vs Republican Marco Rubio or Charlie Crist. The results are as follows: Charlie Crist- 46% Kendrick Meek-34% Marco Rubio-46% Kendrick Meek-31% These results are profound and striking for one simple reason. In light of the current conflict with the RINO GOP establishment in the special election of NY-CD-23, these results must be disseminated to debunk a common misconception. There is a narrative that has been promulgated by the RINO cesspool that the more liberal the...

There are a lot of ugly statistics for the Democrats in this little number. McDonnell leads by 24 points among the vaunted youth voters, by 28 in the under $50,000 income group and 15 points in the over $50,000 group. He leads by 55-45 in Northern Virginia, the Democrats' base camp. Another one that should keep the Dems up at night is that fully 19% of the people who voted for Obama last year will be pulling the lever for the Republican this year. Finally, independents have essentially given up on the Democrats, favoring McDonnell by a margin of 71-27,...

Americans strongly oppose a nuclear Iran but split on whether the U.S. itself should take military action to take out Iran nukes. A majority, however, support military action by Israel. No concrete evidence exists that Iran has nuclear weapons. But Israeli and American intelligence agree Iran is "moving forward in developing a nuclear-weapons capability." While Gallup put the question in the framework of a ban on all guns, it notes that "Obama has never said, either on the campaign trail or after taking office, that he intends to push for a ban on the sale of...
