Arab States Demand ‘Immediate International Protection' For Palestinians...

Speaking on behalf of Arab states, Jordan’s Foreign Minister Abdul Ilah Khatib, demanded on Wednesday immediate international protection for Palestinians under Israeli occupation at a controversial conference held in Geneva on the Jewish state's handling of human rights in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

Khatib was quoted by the Jordan Times as saying “the latest Israeli measures against the Palestinians had to stop immediately as any further escalation would only trigger reprisals and hinder the Palestinian National Authority's ability to maintain law and order in areas under its control.”

“In light of the serious Israeli escalation and bombardment of Palestinian installations in the West Bank and Gaza, we reiterate our call for providing necessary protection for the occupied Palestinian people without further delay,” Khatib told the one-day Geneva meeting of signatory states to the 1949 Fourth Geneva Convention.

Khatib highlighted in his keynote speech the recent deterioration in Palestine which was seen by targeting the Palestinian Authority and its installations which not only causes a serious weakening in the conditions of the Palestinian people and further exacerbates the situation, but also hampers the authority's ability to prevent acts of violence,” he said at the meeting, held at the request of Arab states.

Israel and the United States boycotted the meeting, which reaffirmed that the international pact on protecting civilians in armed conflict applied to the territories seized by Israel during the 1967 Middle East war, said the Amman-based paper.

Khatib emphasized that the only way to make the two sides live in peace is to activate Tenet ceasefire agreement and the Mitchell Committee recommendations, which have been accepted by Israel and the Palestinians – Albawaba.com

Now THAT I'd like to see. _Nothing_ would get the US out of the UN faster than the UN sending-in "peacekeepers" to protect Palestinian terrorists.

So why didn't these Arab countries offer up some land back in 1948 for a "Palestinian homeland?"

The same UN peace keepers that do nothing on the Lebanese border? Or the UN peace keepers who got out of Sinai when ordered to by Egypt before the six day war?

They did. It's called Jordan. Palestinians already have a 'state of their own'. The whole issues of palestinian statehood is a crock. It's the arabs who are at fault here imo. They've had 40 years to absorb the palesinians who displaced themselves from Isreal. They are nothing but pawns.

Don't be myopic. Sending in observers and international peacekeepers would protect the Palestinians sufficiently that the few radicals and extremeists wouldn't resort to terrorism.

Of course that might cramp expansion and give pause to the Hamas infiltrators as well.

Some people are always looking for some other country to clean up the mess and pay for the fall-out of Israeli decisions.

I suppose you never considered that the Palestinian culture is unique to them and they want to live in THEIR homeland on their historic turf.

They beat this dead horse daily.

In spite of the fact that the UN hid (and lied for a year about having) tapes of Hizbollah kidnappping and murdering Israeli soldiers.

Or perhaps, because if it. (-:

How many Palistinians were killed this week when Israel opened fire upon the terrorits and compare that to the deaths the terrorists caused?

Who are the ones that need international protection here?

I think it may be time for the dreaded Blue Helmets to give it a try...everything else has failed miserably and America has supported such UN interventions in similar situations before.

Plus it would help us keep a nice distance from that dangerous situation.

That's nice.

The United States demands an "Immediate End To State Sponsored Terrorism"

Guess who gets what they want first...

They have no unique culture. They are (mostly) Muslim and they speak Arabic. Most did not live in Palestine before the 19th Century. Many have relatives in Jordan, which is mostly "Palestinian."

I will say one thing for you. You never stop with your line of bull. The only thing that would happen is the Palestinians would be protected, they think, but they would be free to continue your (Whoops, really, I mean to type in their, but this freudian slip does have meaning.) terror tactics on the Israelis.

The Palestinians are nothing but savages who send their kids out to die for them. The land belongs to Israel.

The U.N. forces are next to useless as demonstrated by their presence in Northern and Western Israel. They are just human shields to the Islamics. The Islamics are perfectly capable of bringing of home all Arab squatters on Israeli soil. OH that's right Arafat and the PLO have been kicked out of every Islamic country they have been in.

International observers would only affect the Israelis. Israel responds with the IDF, which wears uniforms and is clearly visible. The Palestinians never attack Israelis while wearing uniforms, an thus could not be stopped or even identified by the observers. It's strictly a one way advantage for the Palestinians and that's why they want them.

By the way, according to the Geneva Accords, a non-uniformed person conducting military operations against civilians (a terrorist) or against the other country's military (a querilla) CAN BE EXECUTED.

How about shipping every Palestinian to one or another of the Arab states making this demand? That should make protection of them real easy. You'll notice that many of those same states treated the Palestinians lousy while they were there; keeping them cooped up in wretched tent camps, denying them jobs, refusing to let them become citizens, etc. They all wanted to dump them on the Jewish State, well now let the Jewish State dump them back on their Arab cousins.
