Rep. Carolyn Maloney didn't veil her outrage at how the Taliban treat women in Afghanistan. So she let her clothing do the talking when she gave a speech on the floor of the House - shrouded in a head-to-ankle "burqa" with the eyes-hiding mesh panel.

Wow, what ever happened to liberal 'cultural relativism'? I thought it was wrong to impose our culture on another nation?

/sarcasm.

Re: Burqa

Let me be the first to thank you for focusing attention on the tragic plight of the women of Afghanistan. By wearing the traditional burqa, you have vividly illustrated the hellish life that these oppressed women face under Taliban rule.

Let me also suggest that you keep up the pressure. Please, wear the burqa again tomorrow, and the next day, and the next, relentlessly, until we have brought justice to the women of Afghanistan, and possibly for eight or nine months after that, too, just in case.

And please, please, enlist other women members of congress - Hillary Clinton, Rosa De Lauro, Barbra Mikulsky, Maxine Waters to name but a few - in this vital show of American resolve.

American hearts will swell with joy, pride and relief when we see you and these other fine representatives united in support of the oppressed women of Kabul. If you cannot find authentic burqas, please feel free to use bedsheets, tarps, grocery bags, etc. We will get the point.

Yeah, well I saw Ashley Banfield interview a Taliban official the other day and the camera panned to her and she had a lavender sheet on all wrapped around her head and all. It was so melodramatic I went into an uncontrolable rage. What a self serving idiot!
