Girls accused of spiking coffee with acid

Two Aurora middle school students--a 12-year-old girl and a 13-year-old girl--were charged Wednesday with putting hydrochloric acid in their teacher's coffee cup while he was out of the classroom, Aurora police said.

The 31-year-old science teacher suffered chemical burns in his mouth when he took a sip of the coffee after returning to the class, police spokesman Dan Ferrelli said.

He was treated at Dreyer Medical Clinic in Aurora, officials said.

The incident occurred about 9 a.m. Wednesday at Waldo Middle School on Aurora's east side. The teacher, who wasn't identified by police, poured some of the acid into a beaker while preparing for class.

He left the room briefly to monitor a hallway while students changed classes, leaving the two girls--who had been in the class for a prior study hall--unsupervised. The teacher had warned the girls that the acid was dangerous and wasn't to be handled, Ferrelli said.

While the teacher was out of the room, the 13-year-old allegedly acted as a lookout while the 12-year-old poured some of the acid into the teacher's mug, Ferrelli said.

The girls were charged as juveniles with felony aggravated battery. They were in the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center.

If it were the coffee I make, they wouldn't have needed the acid. Six scoops of coffee (heaping) into the filter for half a pot of water (six cups) recycle as color desired is met. Seven scoops for a full pot. Keeps ya nice & regular. I've had Columbians tell me my coffee is 'Death in a mug'.
Waldo Middle School? They weren't looking for Waldo, were they? (Reading the title gives one the impression of an LSD spiked drink and seeing the faculty all trippy..)

Let's see how long it takes NOW to rally around the little b*tches! "Oh it was being forced to play with Barbie dolls and having to live up to society's expectations that they look like Britney Spears that drove them to do such a thing. Besides, the victim was a man so what's all the fuss?"

Is LSD still out there? I thought that newer designer drugs were the drugs of choice these days for the kiddies.

I've had Columbians tell me my coffee is 'Death in a mug'.

Aaaaahhhhhhh. So there is still one remaining, in whom the force is not suppressed. I had almost given up hope on ever finding my replacement...;^)

From the story, the girls probably heard something about LSD (acid) and were told that it would do strange things to people. These girls, not knowing the difference, probably figured battery acid was the same thing.

And it has been posted earlier. See reply #3.

Hey, I like my coffee, um, thick too. I usually have to use a spatula to get at the bottom of the pot.
