Most Americans, including children, want to show their national pride by wearing the colors of the United States flag -- the red, the white and the blue. But when two Pasadena children wore T-shirts showing their pride, they were told it wasn't appropriate, according to a News2Houston report.
Because today was deemed a national day of prayer and remembrance by President Bush, Desert Storm veteran Donnie Meyer wanted to pass on patriotism to his two daughters. So, he allowed his 7-year-old and 9-year-old to wear T-shirts with the American flag emblazoned on them to school at McMasters Elementary School.
He never thought there would be a problem.
However, the school's principal asked 7-year-old Ashley to change her shirt because it wasn't part of the school's dress code.
The Pasadena Independent School District's assistant superintendent points out that McMasters remembered Tuesday's tragedy during several school programs Friday, and the T-shirt incident was merely a mistake.
The school district maintains that they allow each school to determine their own dress code, but Assistant Superintendent Kirk Lewis said that the Meyer children and other students will be allowed to wear American flags on their shirts on similar occasions like today's remembrances.

Anti-American company in Florida bans US flags in the workplace and fires employees who are absent to give blood! This company also advertises their services FOR PROFIT to victims of this tragedy!

Our mission must be to fight the traitors on the homefront.

This person is a principle? This has to be the most stupid decision of this person's life. When are the parents of this country going to stand up and march on the schools? If this person truly believes displaying the flag is "inappropriate", then this person needs to be fired. That would be extremely appropriate!

Every child at that school should wear Patriotic Symbols. If the school sends them all home, the parents should keep them at home the next day. The school gets state & federal dollars for each child who is at school before 10am..no kids no funds..that should make the Administrators change their tune.

all the soccer moms voted for school uniforms. when you let the school tell you how you MUST dress your children then dman it, they're going to tell you how to dress your children.

This principal needs to be taught the constitution. Especially the part about freedom of speech. That means she or he can say anything she or he wants to say. It also means a kid can wear the damn flag!

You know, this is BS. I think Thurdays on FNC, they asked people to wear red, white and blue tomorrow (friday) because of the memorial service. This is crapola, and I think Bush better address this issue. He is trying to unite people and copanies and schools are undermining him?

My thoughts exactly. Sadly, it has taken a major tragedy to open the public's eyes as to where these people stand. How can anyone under any circumstances be opposed to displaying the flag at a time like this?

This is Pasadena, Texas. Lots of refineries and chemical plants. Very dangerous place in this war. Even more dangerous with principals like this.
