Not on the websites’ list, but HyVee food stores in the midwest offer an outstanding free breakfast buffet for Veterans on Vet’s Day.

I hater Golden Corral.

But, I hate them every Veterans’ Day, because, I keep going to the “free meals” day, and I end up gaining 2-3 pounds each time I get that free meal.

They keep destroying my diet with their good food, and while I appreciate what they do for Veterans on Veterans’ day, I hate them for helping me gain weight. Breaking my diet has never been so delicious.

;)

I'd rather stay home and eat SOS er... chipped beef on toast with gravy than take free food from a stranger.

Agree although I do ‘appreciate’ what they are attempting to do.
Like ‘we’ used to say about feeding the ‘homeless’ Giant Feasts with the ‘well off’ ladling the food out to them.
Rather than that ‘Giant Feast’, am sure most of the recipients would rather the ‘treaters’ donate to the soup kitchen on a monthly basis. AGAIN, am in appreciation for the thought but.............

The way I ‘handle’ the freeby market is take note and on any other day, if I am going to make of choice of where to eat, will more than likely go to the “Vet Friendly” - which, after all, is their ‘bottom line’.
“NOT that there is anything wrong with that”

Same at the Legion and VFW, I never want the ‘free picnic/dinner/brunch’ to be at both places the same day as those are the days I do NOT frequent them.
I understand they ‘have’ to have something on a yearly basis to see who is still ‘alive’ as - universally about 20% (and I am being VERY generous here) support the post on a daily basis.

I have a somewhat similar feeling. I was at Home Depot picking up some project stuff and the woman said, “ Do you want a veterans discount?”

I asked her do you want to see my VFW card or my VA Card, or my Division assoc. card. She said no you look old enough.

Kind of pissed me off.

Army SOS was made with Hamburger or ground sausage.

Same with AF. Sausage or ground beef. I may have cooked for a few thousand of my bestest friends at one point in my life. ;)

I never remembered how good it tasted until my daughter went to UA and worked in a Truck Stop, for extra cash.

They had this little old Black Woman cooking who taught me how to make Grits and Biscuit's and Sausage Gravy, for a Yankee it was eye opening.

I'd never had, or even heard of, SOS until I got some for breakfast while in Marine Corps boot camp. It was so delicious I thought I'd died and gone to heaven!

I doubt my dad has any of his papers, but he does have his official 26th Infantry Yankee Division WWII baseball cap that he proudly wears everywhere. http://www.ydva.org

Veterans Day is second only to Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving. I am always grateful for the dining establishments who do this. Last year I went to Applebees. To show my gratitude, I leave “double” the usual tip.
