I'm a 62 year old Vietnam vet, no hero, just proud to have served my country and it was a great entrance into manhood. I am in the process of entering the VA healthcare system here in Oregon. No current health issues, but I'm registering since I recently was laid off and have no health insurance. I would appreciate Vet input on their experience with the healthcare they receive from the VA system in general and if anyone has had an experience with the Eugene, Oregon facility.
The surgery was done and a few days later she developed a terrible infection at the wound site and had to be rushed back in to surgery. Turns out that the VA had knowingly allowed surgeries to be conducted in an operating suite that was infected with MERSA virus. She found this our from her podiatrist who had operated on 4 patients that day - all elective surgeries. Two of his patients died as a result of the out of control infection and my sister ended up losing her leg below the knee due to gangrene from uncontrolled MERSA infection. She tried to sue, but could find no one who would take her case.
The Dayton, Oh VA. I know, heard all kinds of bad stuff about them. I’ve never had a prob, go to a brand new clinic and I have no complaints. A number of friends use the facility and they agree that the care is fine.

In 2013 I spent 9 days in the Phoenix VA Hospital on Indian Hills Rd. After 2 heart attacks and congestive heart failure. In 1968 I was 169 pounds. When I went in to the hospital I weighed 470. In 9 days they took over 100 pounds of water out of me.
There service was great, the food good and the staff and doctors 1st rate. If there were problems there, I didn't see any.
My whatever god you worship smile down on you and your entire family.

I am not a veteran but people I know say the VA facilities and providers in southeastern WA State are very good.
I am a 77 year old Navy vet who has had nothing but good experiences at the VA here in Wisconsin. I have been treated with the utmost respect and dignity, given what ever service and medications I have needed. I applaud the staff and volunteers who work there.
