Sgt. Maj. Of The Marine Corps Says Lower Pay For Marines “Will Raise Discipline”, Make Them Less....
American Military News ^

Can you believe this guy? Who is he representing, the president of the troops he is supposed to stand up for? Last time I checked our Marines are plenty disciplined and far from entitled.

Your posts are getting unclear and confusing.

The post you referred to was in response to a claim that base pay went up 100% since 2001.

You said few remain E-1s. The Corps has a bunch of E-1s in the fleet, some of them are E-1 the second time.

I saw one E-1 in the Wing in 21 years, had him as a duty clerk when I had the Group duty. He claimed it was his natural rank, not a retread one. I think he was a FAP from the Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS).

The fact is that base pay hasn't gone up 100% since 2001. And those who are claiming 'civilian equivalent' pay count as pay BAH/BAS which no private I ever heard of got. If he was married he got quarters pay for the old lady and maybe comrats, but I doubt it in the Corps. If they wanted you to have a wife, they would have issued you one. Plus all privates had to maintain a barracks room at any rate.

As a 2Lt I would have loved 42K but as I was single living in the Q for the first 7 months, I got base pay and BAS. Out of that came 2.5k for uniforms.

Hmmm...time to re-up with a paycut and endure more rainbow fairy rangers filling the ranks, helping Sally Sagbutt through the obstacle course and getting my a$$ shot at by some random fellow soldier on post who loses his nut...or, get out draw unemployment and join Obama’s FSA, get paid more for doing nothing. Decisions, decisions...

I’m proud of you for serving especially during that time period. But back then they weren’t sending guys for 5 or more tours of duty in combat zones. Its a whole different deal today.

I don’t think any of our boys or girls do it for the money but they deserve a decent wage. What they currently get is not that much and they sure don’t deserve a cut.

I’m not drinking, but your posts read as though you are, or used to, a lot.

Your posts are confusing, not focused.

I just did some checking. An E-4 over 3 yrs service in 2001 had a base pay of $1500.60 Looking at today's base pay is about $2193 a month for same rank and time in service. Net increase of about $693 dollars from 2001- 2014. Or just under a 50% pay increase in base pay in those 14 years. 2193 X 12 = $26,316 per year today for an E-4 over 3 before taxes.

An E-4 over 3 yrs in 1996 had a monthly base pay of $1209.30. So the increase between 1996 and 2001 was roughly $291. The increase between 1996 and 2014 for an E-4 over with 3 years is a $984 increase in the pay for E-4 with over 3 years. Actual base pay only increased $984 over 18 years. Sources http://www.navycs.com/charts/1996-military-pay-chart.html and http://www.militaryfactory.com/military_pay_scale.asp

In 1980 the base pay for an E-4 over 3 years time in service was 603.90 a month. Source: http://www.navycs.com/charts/1980-military-pay-chart.html Of course back then in Norfolk in the Oceanview community a two bedroom apartment went for about $230 a month plus utilities.

Rent today in a similar military in Norfolk {most Oceanview apartments got leveled in about 2002} would likely now be $800 or more a month plus utilities. Has military pay really gone up vs cost of living meaning are troops actually making more money compared to the economy when ones before them served? Most likely Not.

Do your 20, get old and this is what you are NOW DOD MANDATED TO DO! It is the 11th, this goes into effect on the 14th, where is the Second mail out? Means We have to go get PAPER Scripts from our doctors! And I would not trust ES with a 10 ft poll after reading about them. You hear the stories when you go to Base enough, as often people split between the base Dispensary which is not handicap friendly, and ES.

Retired Military over 65 just received this noticed 2 weeks ago, takes effect 4/14/2014, why they sent a prelim with out the drug list is WASTEFUL spending in itself!

DOD MANDATE is forcing us to use either Base whose drugs are limited by size of base and is not wheel chair or handicap friendly or Express Scripts MANDATED Tricare Life. starts next month. 4/14/14, still have not got the formulary, waste to do 2 send outs. Express Scripts is a sorry excuse of a provider. You never know if your order is right, what generic, what manufacture, or what country. All thrown up on your porch for the local thieves and meth makers to steal.

YOU WILL LOSE YOUR PHARMACY THANKS TO NEW DOD BUDGET!

This is a Prelim letter, we don’t even know at this time which drugs are going to be on the list. Waste of money to not send out the full thing.

1 Transfer your medication from a retail pharmacy to save , convenient Tricare Home Delivery and pay less out of pocket! A typical cost for a 90 day retail supply is $51 but only $13 for Home Delivery.

2 Ask your doctor about using a low cost generic that is not among the medications included in the Pilot Generics can still be filled at retail for $5

3 Transfer maintenance medications under the Pilot from retail pharmacy to a military pharmacy. Call your local military pharmacy to see if they have you medication

4 Continue to get you selected maintenance medications at a retail and pay 100% of the cost of the medication starting with your third refill.

If you refill your selected maintenance medication’s at a retail pharmacy after March 14, 2014 you’ll get letters from the Tricare Pharmacy contractor Express Scripts, Inc about switching to Home Delivery. Remember, starting with your third fill you will be responsible for 100% of the cost of the medications if you chose to continue to obtain them at a retail pharmacy.

If you have other health insurance with a prescription benefit, you do not fall under the Pilot. There will also be a process to obtain waivers on a case by case basis, due to personal need or hardship, emergency or other special circumstaces-0 such as living in a nursing home. After participating in the Pilot for 1 year you may opt out.

Starting Oct. 1, the Pentagon plans to reduce Tricare Prime service areas to within a 40-mile radius of active or former military installations, forcing 173,000 retirees and their family members to switch to Tricare Standard or seek a waiver if they live within 100 miles of an existing network.

The decision will affect retirees and their dependents in Prime, and those on Tricare Young Adult Prime. That totals 98,771 people in the Tricare South

Well read the comments from your fellow Freepers many of whom seem to think it A OK to screw the military with a pay cut. Go figure.

Get a grip, E-1s, who used to be E-2s. No one ever got busted in your service? Losing a strip wasn't unusual in the Corps, especially in the grunts. It gave a guy another chance but with a consequence.

1-2% ever serve in the Military, they do NOT understand the hardships, the low pay, rotten living conditions.

I’ve washed diapers, fatigues, clothes in the bathtub, going hungry so the kids could eat when a emergency on the car took the money set aside for the 4th week. BAQ for families then was $130 per month, besides his low pay. The only thing that went to the dry cleaners were his Dress Uniforms as infrequently as possible. No base housing for lower Ranks. Those long deployments dropped the full load on me. I sewed on all patches, ranks, etc to his fatigues and Dress Uniforms.

I’d like them to see what we lived on, and try it. Medical was pathetic then as it is now. SPOILED BRATS who never lived in the world of the Military. And they are NOT GETTING SHOT AT to boot.

My dad was a boilermaker, made more money than my husband.

20 and out, keeps the older men moving up the ranks, and more modern thinking on warfare. Old Brass are still fighting the Last war they fought. Terrorist are a new breed, need new tactics. NO one over the Military should hold the post unless they have done one 4 year hitch starting as a E1, no help from rich family. Live on what the real Military lives on.

And their fat butts need to walk the long row of the Exchange and Commissary, so the handicapped or wounded can have close up parking.
