Grad student expelled after refusing to counsel gay married couples

Andrew Cash, a former student at Missouri State University, is suing the institution over his dismissal from a graduate program in counseling. Cash has retained counsel from the Thomas More Society, a national public interest law firm, and has filed a federal civil rights complaint against the Governors of Missouri State University. Cash and his lawyers contend that he was dismissed from the university’s Master’s program in counseling because he expressed concern over counseling same-sex couples due to his religious convictions. In an exclusive interview, Spero News interviewed attorney Tom Olp of the Thomas More Society, which is representing Cash.

According to Olp, Cash claims that he was unable to complete his counseling curriculum and is consequently prevented from working as a counselor. Moreover, his dismissal has caused him emotional suffering. Cash wants to be reinstated in the program, and that safeguards put in place so that he can successfully earn his degree.

Olp said in a statement that the university denied an educational opportunity to Cash who expressed, in an academic setting, “sincerely-held religious beliefs which his advisor deemed hostile to her own and therefore unacceptable. An educator should not permit her own ideology and agenda to ruin the educational opportunities of her students.” Cash contends that the university dismissed him on the basis of his religious beliefs, thus violating his freedom of expression.

I am not familiar with all the particulars but it would seem that each student of counseling should be able to disclose that their religious convictions prohibit counseling to same-sex 'marriages'. After such disclosure, faculty should know to avoid pairing such students with such homosexual arrangements.

The rest of the report has some particularly good quotes from the plaintiff's lawyer. I hope he's able to make these arguments stick.

Remember the sodomites said all of what they wanted was never going to negatively harm any Christians.

We all knew they were lying.

What’s with these Missouri schools? Are they all on a suicide path?

I’ve been a counselor and a counselee. I would not want to counsel nor be counselled by someone with whom I had such an irreconcilable difference of viewpoint. It would form a block to the formation of the relationship of mutual trust and respect necessary for effective intervention. The young man is to be commended for recognizing and reporting to his supervisors a genuine limitation on his services, not condemned and punished for it.

He refused to counsel them because they don't exist. There is no such thing as a "gay married couple," unless it refers to two people who are homosexual, but who are married to opposite-sex partners.

There are deviants who have created a false equivalency between heterosexual marriage and a -- by definition -- abnormal same-sex "relationship," but the latter does not constitute anything more than a secular arrangement, which is little more than a contract.

Yes, he is courageous. Counseling homosexuals one-on-one should be Ok for Christian Counselors but homosexual ‘married’ couples is an affront to moral sensibilites.

However, counseling a single homosexual is also fraught with legal risk as it has been deemed illegal to counsel homosexuals against their homosexuality.

Good question. How can he help them with things he doesn’t personally do?

No, wait. Never mind. Celibate priests counsel hetero couples, possibly in areas he knows nothing about.

Oh, well, I tried.

The goal is to eliminate Christianity. The “gay” crap is the way they’re going to do it.

This is Christianophobia, plain and simple.

Imagine if a Muslim student did the same, respectfully requested not to counsel but to refer gay couples?

Does the psych school respect a female Muslim student’s need to wear her hijab? A male Jewish student to wear his yarmulke? If so, they need to respect the Christian religious tenets as well.

Court cases are no longer decided on the merits of the case before them, but on the political leanings of the court involved. This has become exceedingly obvious over the past decade or more.

We have husbands who want to be wives, wives who want to be husbands, men who want to be women and use their restroom and vice-versa. We have teen boys wearing makeup and women’s clothes, experimenting with homosexuality because it’s ‘cool’ now, and Christians are starting to be rounded up if they are speak out. We already had a Marxist infiltrate the White House, and now they’re trying once again. Up is down, left is right, right is wrong, and wrong is right. There is no moral compass, no American values, no respect for tradition. If you disagree with ANY of it, you are a racist, homophobic, cis-privileged, horrible bigot triggering all kinds of dehumanizing feelings, and should be sent to reeducation camp.

I wish the young man well, but the last thing I’d want to be in this current environment is a counselor.

All counselors have to accept homosexuals and lesbians in their practices or they lose their licenses.

There was a case of a psychologist in either Washington or Oregon who wanted to refer someone who was homosexual to a more appropriate counselor and the HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISION of that state brought him to trial and removed his license. Anyone with a license to practice their trade is at the mercy of our government’s fascism.

Yes, that is the case. And the point of this report is that it is not one solo homosexual but a homosexual ‘married’ couple that seeks a counselor ostensibly for helping the state of their ‘marriage’.

For a Christian counselor, there would be the task of assisting a process of helping the homosexuals in their ‘marriage’ which is clearly in violation of any Christian’s convictions.

The result for Christians is a choice between serving God or complying with the State. but not both. Therefore, Christians are either denied their religious tenets or they are denied a license to practice.

Now I, as an enlightened millennial man, would have not refused these “Children of the Rainbow” my sage advice. I would have told them the get a restraining order against one another and to seek counseling from their church and then billed the.lm appropriately.

Enrollment expected to be down 15%, and they’re still pulling leftist crap? Missouri may have to change its motto from “The show me state,” to “Get back here!”

A better term is staurophobia which is an irrational fear/hatred of the Cross especially of Him Who it represents

I did not coin the term; another poster did but is a very accurate description of the pathology involved.
