“Along towards the end of the Temple period, scribes had become a politically powerful sect, allied with the Pharisees. .......................”
Not totally true. Yes, some scribes may have been among the group known as the Pharisees. But it was the Sadducees who controlled the temple and all that came from it. THEY were the most politically powerful, and politically corrupt Hebrew group. Many of the arguments between early Christians and the Pharisees stemmed from the fact that unlike the Sadducees they were both more popular with the common folks and were competing for allegiance from the same people - the Conservative and religious among the general public. From that body and later Gentiles Christianity and Rabbinic Judaism began. The Sadducees with their corruption died with the Temple. The legacy of the Pharisees lives on in Rabbinic Judaism.
Many of them. As I remember some of the doctrinal scrolls were more current. So many now I have lost track, what with all the modern distractions. :^( I have a rather large digital file directory on almost all of the scrolls, mostly older, some of the newer advancements and discoveries. As I say, getting harder to keep up. sigh
IAA {Israel Antiquities Authority} have been searching the Dead Sea area and finding new caves, trying to keep ahead of the 'poachers'. I don't know of any noteworthy new discoveries, however.
Yes, what I alluded to. They are just fragments and in Greek, meaning they are probably late.
I’m still waiting for someone to find Jeremiah’s Deed....................
Go for it, baby! 😅
Well, it’s in Israel somewhere............I’m in Florida...............
Ah, myself also. Well, it was just sort of a positive note... like Schliemann {sp?} discovering Troy. You never know what might turn up. The first Dead Sea scroll appeared with a mention for sale in the NYT.
I saw the Dead Sea Scroll Conspiracy show on TV last evening.................
Yikes! I missed that; what cable channel? Perhaps I can catch a rerun.
I have not heard about a DS scroll conspiracy; is the report credible?
It was a good show, historically speaking, standard documentary stuff, but to call it a “conspiracy” is a slight stretch. There were scrolls that were sold by the Bedouin BEFORE they were publicly known, just to get some money, and not much, because they didn’t know the value or historical significance of the scrolls. So there are Dead Sea Scrolls that are in Private collections, but nobody knows who or where since records were not kept. Plus the caves have BEEN PLUNDERED SINCE THEN, by treasure hunters and the like. There may be more caves hidden in the desert mountains since they were sealed and cleverly hidden.
They also talked about the COPPER SCROLL that supposedly has a treasure map and such, that indicates there is a ‘treasure’ of tons of gold and silver hidden from the Romans by the Priests in Jerusalem.

Part of the ‘conspiracy’ theory is that there is information that would discredit Jesus or at least change our views of Him, and so they are suppressed by the Catholic Chrurch, et al.
Note that not all the scrolls are religious texts, some are just diary-like representations of life at the time.....
Well, that explains plenty. I would make an informed guess that the program is talking about the Nag Hammadi scrolls, NOT the DS scrolls. The big display there is the Gospel of Thomas and similar. These are not Orthodox Jewish or Christian 'scrolls' - they are Gnostic scrolls, probably from the late second or early third century. They have historical significance but not much biblical importance.
***Note that not all the scrolls are religious texts, some are just diary-like representations of life at the time.....***
I already mentioned the doctrinal scrolls such as 1QS Community Rule, the Calendar scrolls such as 4Q320, 1QM the War Scroll, etc.
I also mentioned the early notice of the scrolls in a NYT ad. As to the Copper Scroll, 3Q15, I think it is just a wild goose treasure hunt in modern times. Many of the physical markers and locations are totally unfamiliar to us today - presuming those treasures ever existed.
