Some British novelist (I don'te remember who: Muggeridge? Waugh? Wodehouse? Greene?) has his protagonist admit to a friend that he's losing his (Catholic) Faith.

"I say, old boy" says the friend, "Why not go to the Church of England? They're not nearly so inflexible about doctrine and all that bother."

Says the wavering Catholic: "I said I was losing my Faith. I didn't say I was losing my mind."

I certainly do not mean that in an offensively church-chauvinist way. The Catholic Church is certainly in one of its historic "helluva messes" right now. I trust God will rescue Her as He has so many times in the past: by allowing the destruction of wide swathes of visible Catholic dry rot; and by raising up saints.
