Just a rambling old man from some church that no one’s heard of. He doesn’t like the Shriners or Mason’s.
I was very close to the Shrine, Now this is my opinion not a forgone conclusion. We live in a free country and you can associate and do anything you want that is not illegal, Certainly the Shrine is not engaged in illegal activity but I would understand a 501C3 tax audit but if we dont do the Clinton Foundation then leave the Shrine alone. But here was my years of observation. The Shrine is a big drinking club. The whole thing is social. Many trades people are Shriner. They like to party They really have no redeeming value except they send the money to their centers for burned and cripple children. That is good but I will tell you that is not what they are about. Its about big parties, Dont let anyone “kid” you. I think they are fading away very fast as my generation subsides. Ill bet they are gone in 15 years.

I don’t like the circus, but I like the Shriners. They do wonderful things for burn victims and others. The young boy in their commercial who is their spokesperson is just adorable.
I believe your summary is correct, but would add that in my experience those that hate them the most give little or nothing to anything half as worthwhile as their hospitals.
Pretty much same goes for the VFW.

I am a Mason and many friends of mine are 32nd, 33rd, York Rite, Scottish Rite, Knights Templar, etc.
We hang out all the time, I go a good number of events and have never observed anything this guy is discussing.
If I had one inkling of what he asserts I would quit.
The ritual he discussing was unique to his lodge. I asked about this electrical act stuff and no one here has experienced it but, thought it would be funny.
And eating a hotdog while being poked by hat pins? Nope
There are also no rituals that I have observed that violate my religious or moral concience. If I ever observed it I would quit.
I would suspect his experience was unique to his chapter.
My lodge does not perform anything that would be considered hazing by any rational person.
Other lodges are a little more forceful but, no hazing.
I do know of a particular lodge that is a bit forceful but, it’s not hazing.
Each lodge has it’s own culture.
My lodge, in particular, isn’t fussy. We are serious about our work but, we do not take ourselves seriously and we are just plain fun.
Plus, we dress up like cowboys, farmers and typical Californians, mostly because we are in farm and cattle territory.
Some times I show up in cowboy garb, other times I show up in business suits and if it’s summer I may very well show up in Tommy Bahamas and no one will bat an eye.
Heck, many of us show up armed, as a number of the brothers are in Law Enforcement and the rest of us just like guns.
I go to a lot of other lodges each month and I believe this guy had a unique experience.
I am also a Sciot, Mark Master (Need to join Scottish Rite), , etc.
