Ex-President Jimmy Carter says his push for Middle East Peace played an important role in turning the evangelical voting bloc into the arms of the Republican Party.
Carter told the Associated Press, that he, “took a position of wanting to see balance between Israel and the Palestinians.” Carter wasn’t able to bring about a final peace deal and was seen by some as not being pro-Israel enough.
He claims that this was a major factor in evangelicals aligning with the Republican Party, which has since adopted a hardline pro-Israel stance. They were a major factor in President Trump’s shocking upset win.
“Evangelicals are naturally inclined from a religious point of view to be loyal to Israel,” he said, noting their more literal interpretations of the Bible. Trump has emboldened Christian Zionists. They played a role in Trump’s decision to move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem, and Trump’s Vice President, Mike Pence, addressed their annual conference this year.
Carter pointed out that Christians Zionists also believe “that the Jews should also all become Christians — that’s not often mentioned.”
In the interview Carter, a devout Baptist, admitted that Democratic Party positions on abortion and women’s rights, also played a major role in evangelical allegiance to the GOP.

The anti-semite drove evangelicals to the GOP? Fine by me. Carter bullied and mis-represented Israel and made false portrayals of the pals as hard done by mean Israel. The second worst President after Obama.
I would agree with him not being pro-Israel, period. However, it was his complete incompetence in dealing with the economy, domestic policy (esp. energy policy (I'm still surprised a Navy nuclear engineer couldn't make the case for nuclear energy, even after Three Mile Island)), and international policy (esp. the Iran hostage crisis) that were his undoing.
While jimmuh is still apparently alive, I believe his already-shriveled brain did succumb to the brain cancer he had some time ago.

Who remembers that Ronald Reagan was classy enough to ask Jimmy Carter to go to Germany and greet the hostages arriving from Iran on his behalf? He also gave him credit for getting them freed, even though we all knew Reagan deserved to rightfully claim the credit. Such was the class of that man!

Praying he finally gets around to reading that big show- Bible he carted around in his campaign - gets over his anti- semitism and finds ways to atone, make up for some at least of the harm he’s done
Oh Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy. True Christians desire that ALL people accept the salvation freely offered by faith in Jesus Christ. Everyone, because we know that God is not slack in his judgement but rather He's patient desiring that NONE should perish but that all should come to repentance.
