I personally think these kinds of problems...false prophesies, promises of healings that never happen, etc...are more symptomatic of the church in America than the global Pentecostal movement.

Start reading about churches in Africa. It will change your mind on this.

Isn’t it sad that Paul didn’t have the Osteen prosperity gospel. Poor Paul had to continue to work as a tanner as he trudged his way around the Med, evangelizing. And he lacked Kenneth Copeland’s ecumenism spirit, so he didn’t know to weld his gospel message to the local religious beliefs. [/sarcasm]

This reminds me of Amos 8:
11Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:
12And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

Course the many have no clue they are in that famine.

I agree, what they want is to believe in the supernatural, without believing in the Gospel.

(Which is why Jesus taught that “it is a wicked generation that seeketh a sign.”)

Simply discarding the “new testament” would solve all these problems—especially at a time when chrstianity is collapsing.

Is the kundalini spirit related to this too?

They are too experience oriented and tend to compare Scripture to their experience instead of their experience to Scripture.

And, God forbid that you question their "experience"! It's an insipid thing that the enemy of our souls worms into their expectations. It's like it never occurs to them that what they experienced wasn't from God. Instead, we are expected to just take them at their word that they are speaking the truth because "why would God allow deceit into their lives" when they are so dedicated to Him? Being a Christian is no guarantee that the devil will leave you alone. In fact, it should be a given that he WILL try at any chance to defeat us - especially when we are influencing others.

It’s too much work and too much commitment and investment and in an instant, have it now society, does not feed the appetite we’ve developed for instant gratification. Maybe if we took the trouble to go out and preach and make disciples, we’d see God move in the way He did in the early church.

The early disciples of Christ were willing to endure personal sacrifice to win the lost to the Lord. Seems like today's "evangelists" care more about TV ratings, expensive cars, mega-mansions, personal jets and popularity. It's no wonder there is such a spiritual paucity. Who really takes up their cross to follow Jesus anymore?

I think so when I see the behavior manifesting in churches these days.

There is no Scriptural precedent for being *slain in the spirit*.

That’s a great example of how people are elevating experience above Scripture and then trying to find Scripture to support their practice instead of comparing the practice to Scripture to find out if it’s from God.

I’ve heard enough of *Well God can do anything He wants*, *Scripture doesn’t say it couldn’t happen* or *Scripture doesn’t prohibit it*, or *God is doing a NEW thing, just like He promised. How do you know this is not the new thing?* and the list goes on.

And, God forbid that you question their "experience"!

No kidding.

Then you get accused of the unforgivable sin.

I'm not questioning that they experienced something.

I'm just questioning whether it's from God, regardless of how warm and fuzzy it feels.

Except, Jesus IS the Messiah, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Faith in HIM will never "collapse" since He is the way, the truth and the life and NO ONE comes to the Father but through Him. The New Testament, the Divinely-inspired Scriptures teach us this and the GOSPEL is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Revelation 3:14-22 “And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: ‘The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God's creation.

“‘I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see. Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’”

The early disciples were put in prison and beaten for their preaching and they came out rejoicing to be considered worthy to have suffered a beating for the cause of Christ.

Not a mentality the current church has, where God is supposed to be blessing EVERYONE with prosperity and comfy lives.

After all, we give our kids good things. Are we better than God? Why doesn’t HE want us to have good things too?

And they forget the REALLY good thing is the character of Christ being built up in us.

All the focus is on the GIFTS of the Spirit and not the FRUIT of the Spirit.

But Jesus said that by our fruit men will know who we are. And that is what God is working in us.

Aren’t we told to test the spirits to see if they are from God (I John 4:1)?

Why don’t you just simplify things and say Christians should stop being Christians?

But Matt 7:1.

And don’t you know, that’s for someone else. Always.

If it’s the person you’re talking to, you’re judging them.

The REST of the story:

“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. (Matt. 7:1-5)
